Question Looking for recommendations for an excellent psychiatrist in or near Annapolis
I’m hoping someone here might be able to recommend a really good psychiatrist for my partner, who’s active-duty military.
He’s been going through a serious mental health crisis over the past couple of months, involving severe anxiety, depression, some difficult physical symptoms, and trouble finding medications that help without causing other problems. It’s been an incredibly difficult time for him.
He’s been receiving psychiatric care through the military. The problem is that as he moves between programs and clinics, he keeps having to start over with a new psychiatrist. Continuity of care has been difficult to achieve and there’s a tendency to try to hand responsibility for him off (counselor to primary care, primary care to psych, psych to ER) rather than any one person assume responsibility for his case over the long term. So the responsibility ultimately falls to me.
While most providers have been well-meaning, at times I wonder if relying solely on the military healthcare system might be part of the issue. I’m really hoping to find someone who can get to know him and his history, follow him over the long term, and take the time to work through a complicated case.
I’m specifically looking for an experienced psychiatrist (MD or DO), rather than a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Ideally someone who is very knowledgeable, thoughtful about diagnosis and medication management, and willing to reconsider their approach when something isn’t working. Just as importantly, we need someone who can see him regularly and be reasonably accessible when things get difficult.
I’m open to private practices as well as hospital-affiliated psychiatrists. Annapolis would be ideal, but Baltimore, Columbia, DC, or elsewhere within a reasonable drive would be fine for the right person. We’re fully willing to pay out of pocket.
If you’ve had a particularly good experience with a psychiatrist, either personally or through someone close to you, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. I’m especially interested in what made you feel they were a good doctor, beyond just being friendly or easy to get an appointment with.
I know there are plenty of psychiatrists around, but I’m really trying to find someone exceptional who can give a complicated case the attention it deserves. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Favorite local arcade?
Skee ball is a must. Dave & busters was expensive last time we went so if there's a cheaper option around I'd love to hear it. Not looking to drive more than an hour if possible.

How do you view Eastport, personally?
I've read so many conflicting things: that Eastport is "the hood" and dangerous; that Eastport is one of the most upscale and desirable neighborhoods in Annapolis; that Sixth Street --> Spa Creek is the desirable part and as soon as you leave that area, you better be shaking in your boots; that actually the crime concentrated around the public housing tends to stay in that area and not bleed into other parts of Eastport; that Eastport is progressive; that Eastport is conservative; that Eastport is a hip, young neighborhood; that Eastport mostly comprises retirees; and on and on.
Since I don't know how many of these opinions came from people who actually live(d) there or visit frequently, and some of them are 5 years old or older, I thought some locals here could offer their own views to help me get a better sense of the neighborhood as it is in 2026. Thanks.

Petcare in Annapolis
Hey friends, wondering what the best petcare company is to go with in the area? I’ve been recommended Spoiled Rotten Dogs but don’t know too much about them or the area. Just moved here thanks!

Reasonably priced grocery stores
I just relocated to the area and am wondering who are the most reasonably priced grocery stores? Giant at Riva is most convenient for me, however the prices and produce are not great.
I’m aware of Aldi right there, but selection is limited.
Any tips?

Gutter Repair
Any recommendations for a company to take a look at gutters? Not sure if we need to replace or repair - our basement keeps flooding and think this is the root of the issue. We cleaned out prior to the storm but it still got in.

Chronic pain relief
Has anyone had a positive experience (pain relief) from using PRP or shockwave therapy? Looking for recs of doctors that offer this locally. I’m tying to avoid a total hip replacement. Thanks!

Does Annapolis feel like a military city to non-military ppl?
How much does Annapolis feel like a military city?
From my research, about 10% of all jobs in the area are at the Naval academy - is that right?
For reference, I'm in San Diego. It's also considered a "military city" bc of the large Navy and Marine bases, but bc San Diego is millions of people, I don't think it feels any different from any other city.
Edit: Thanks all. To clarify, I don’t have a strong preference for or against military cities - just trying to understand the vibe.

Giantfood.com down
Ahold Delhaize has been the target of a cyber attack. The websites for Giant Food and Food Lion are down as a protective measure (source: downdetector.com) as the company responds to the threat. I can't get into the website so there is that. I haven't been in store since, but I presume the Scan-It app is down. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other issues even for people who shop in-store and use the cashier lines including digital coupons and credits from affinity programs. I DON'T KNOW THAT. It might happen.
If you use curbside pickup or third party delivery like Instacart (ugh), DoorDash (ugh), or Uber Eats (ugh) expect issues.
Edit 10/13/26 19:30 I met with the store manager at Giant Riva. At the store level they don't know what happened. Speculation is the reported cyber attack on Ahold Delhaize and the guess about a storm over the data center in NC. Personally, I think the storm is unlikely as geographic diversity and failover is IT 101. Everything went down. Internal email and employee scheduling is back up. Inventory especially ordering and PoS are up. Both were up within an hour or so. Employees aren't happy. Customers aren't happy. Stores are open and employees are doing their best which in my experience at Riva, Bay Ridge, and Edgewater is d@man good.
Food Lion is that same, also owned by Ahold Delhaize.

Pop-A Dent Servcie
I have a dent on my rear panel car, not enough to use effective equipment to pop it out and don’t want to go to the auto shop to be overcharged.
I seen independent service fixing a car in the Forrest plaza for a parking lot. I didn’t catch the number on the side of his van, does anybody know seen or used him or the number or another service? Thanks!

Phish or Ween fans?!
Any Phish or Ween fans in the area?! My two favorite bands :) I’m visiting from VT! Where do you go listen to live music? I stayed in all weekend because the boat show isn’t really my scene so I’m looking to hopefully do something fun over the next few nights… I’m here til Thursday. Cheers!

Is Lolli & Pops in the mall closing?
I feel like they’re not really restocking any inventory. A few months ago, I assumed maybe there was a shipment/trucking issue, but after they sold me stale candy, I started thinking that they might be on the way out, especially as shelves continue to look a bit dire. Anyone have any intel?

Question Main St tourists nav advice today (non-attendees of Boat Show)
Hello r/Annapolis!
In town for the football game; but, we did want to visit Main St for the tourist gift shops and lunch. The rub is that we have some mobility-challenged elders in our group, so we want to minimize walking (They can walk + canes but slowly and long distances not ideal)
Will any parking be available easily (pay garages) or will every nook be taken by Boat show attendees?
How is Ubering during the Boat show? Will Ubers be in such high demand that it may take a while (30+ mins) to get one? Or the opposite, because of the popularity of the Boat show + football game that many will be around? Best guesses or shared experience appreciated, here.
Thanks in advance!
