The distant ancestors of balts used to be finnic.
Thus finnic (western uralic) is older.Ilumetsa Põrguhaud meteorite crater aka Põrkunes / Põrunu / Põkku happened over 7000 years ago. And Tsõõrikmäe even 9500 years ago.
The uralic part of indo-uralic sprachbund is older (more archaic) than the IE part.2

Than Balto-Slavic tribes descended from the Corded ware culture. Yamnaya were there about 6k years ago, while Finno-Ugrics showed up in the area around 4k years ago

Genetics and language are two different things. Finnic is a branch within the Uralic language family. The Finnic part developed around the Gulf of Finland, mostly around present-day Estonia, it didn't show up here.
Language and genetics don't arrive at the same time.

Quite the contrary.
The distant ancestors of balts used to be finnic.The river Väina of Väinamaine (Väinämöinen) started from the Polotsk Ice Lake.
And the egghills of Hukuandi (Ugandi) were watered by Ilmatar (ice lake Ilmen) during Meltwater Pulse 1a about 14700 years ago.
Balts have no recollection of that. Finnics do remember.1

Proto-Finnic arrived to Southwest Finland from Estonia, through the sea. This is something virtually all linguists agree on.
Later on other groups of Proto-Finnic moved east from Estonia and became Karelians. Those people populated Finland, and merged with the West Finns, forming the Savonian and Karelian dialect groups.

So? It's likely that Finnish is more archaic than Estonian specifically because of this, because the ones who left preserved the language they spoke while the ones who stayed modernized it. Same with European French and Quebec French

Not really. Finnish is more conservative in some linguistic features while Estonian is more conservative in others. Neither language is universally more archaic.

Finland has had less outside influence. It was "in the periphery" for onger so to say. Estonian has been influenced more by for edxample German. And during the Soviet occupation, Estonian didn't make up new words from scratch. So we often use the more universal international word (like telephone is "telefon" in Estonian). But saying that it's massively more "archaic".. not really.

They haven't even found compact proto-estonian language yet.
In fact no compact proto-language has been found from all of north eurasia. Linguistic trees are merely abstract models, not reality, it doesn't exist in the real world, at least not in north eurasia.
Real world has sprachbunds within sprachbunds. And evolve like (complex) wave models.

So, I'm in Tallinn, right? A bit unprepared, I haul my Finnish ass to the nearest Rimi Express to buy tooth paste. I nod the my tere for the bear of a clerk lady, like a proper Eesti simp that I am, and proceed to the self-pay-checkout. I mean how hard can it be, I'm practically a local!
It doesn't work. Or rather, I have no idea what button to push. If there's a setting for Finnish, I can't find it. I smile sheepishly for the lady, wave my hands to illustrate I'm an idiot, and need help. The lady sighs and comes over.
At this point I'm so flustered, I'm almost ready to throw the dice, and start talking some sort of ancient Proto-Finnic Estonian, but I don't want to do the insufferable, presumptous thing where I assume the local peasants must understand my high Valyrian. Now I'm starting to feel a bit less like a local.
The lady fucking yanks it off my hand, beeps it and tosses it to the basket. It doesn't hit the basket, though it falls on the ground. The lady doesn't give a fuck, nor should she. She's the queen of Vanalinn Rimi Express, and I'm there at her leisure. I pick up the toothpaste with an "aitäh", half-bowing like a eunuch. Under her breath she muttered something Estonian, that I have no idea of, but it was probably something like "I cherish the relationship between our two brotherly nations!".
Way back to the hotel I just keep smiling. She's right! Who tf is happy to serve people 8AM? I don't come to Tallinn there to be pampered, I'd rather see real people.
Sorry for being a pain in the ass! <3

On the language barrier. So I am standing in front of a parking meter in Mikkeli, my breath steaming in the cold Finnish winter night. "Ota kortti", says the machine and I do it patiently. Because what else could it mean other than "Oota korra" ("Wait a moment"). A minute passes, then another. It's getting cold here, hey! So I grab my card, thinking the damn machine is broken, and it happily spits out the receipt. Strange, I think to myself as I walk up to the hotel's reception. The mystery comes to an end as I try to trick the elevator into taking me to the 3rd floor where my room is supposed to be. "Näytä kortti", a sign says. What the hell am I supposed to show you briefly this time? Oh, a card...🤦♂️
No rude Finnish staff involved, but your story brought back memories.

So sad I wasn't doing my rimi shopping that day! I was helping a few elderly finns at the self check out a month ago or so, when they beeped their card I zoned out, so they asked me did it go through and where's the check? I zoned back into my helpful eesti mode and hurried to get them out before the unhelpful cashier comes to attack us, so I said not to worry we save forests and dont print checks in Estonia. As me and my fellow finn elders walked out the rimi doors I said ‐ dear friends I think you have succesfully shoplifted a loaf of bread! They laughed, I laughed, we went our separate ways. Eesti loves Suomi forever.

My brothers friends went to Tallinn with his mom in early 2000's, the look on locals and retail workers face when his mom was happy about the prices and was saying it loudly ”Onpa täällä halpaa” (how cheap it is here) his son had to tell her the truth why everyone looked her so fowly
If i remember correctly ”Halpa” in Estonia means bad

To be a bit more specific, it's been adopted as the Commander of the Defence Forces' march. Back when we still had a Defence Forces Orchestra where the musicians were active duty servicemembers, playing this march was strictly forbidden unless the Commander of the Defence Forces was present. Don't know how it's currently as all the orchestra members are civilians.

Back then, neither Finns nor Estonians had a country.
The Finnish and Estonian national awakenings happened at the same time, and influenced each other. A lot of the Finnish and Estonian literary works arrived to the other side of the pond and we felt great kinship. Later on there were even discussions about a Finnish-Estonian federation.
