AMA AMA with photojournalist Marharyta Fal, who has reported from some of the hottest spots on Ukraine’s front: Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivka, Dobropillia and Kramatorsk

On Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. Kyiv time (5 p.m. London, noon ET, 9 a.m. Portland, 1 a.m. Friday in Tokyo, 3 a.m. Friday in Sydney), Frontliner photojournalist Marharyta Fal will join r/Ukraine for an AMA. Post your questions here ahead of time or join us live.
“When I cover the war, I’m just trying to cope with reality and be useful. It’s my way of recording a shared experience -- for those who have already seen the wreckage of their own homes, and for those who still see the world only through a screen.”
Marharyta has reported on Russia’s blockade of occupied Oleshky and on aerial bomb attacks on Kramatorsk. She has also reported from Kostiantynivka, and walked into Druzhkivka and Dobropillia alongside Ukrainian troops.
- A fresh grave behind the house: Line of contact nears Dobropillia, city isolated
- Next after Kostiantynivka: Industrial Druzhkivka is no longer the rear
- Armor shortages, blocked routes, and conscription risks – the challenges of evacuation under fire (Kostiantynivka)
- Ten minutes to rescue from the rubble: Russians attack residential buildings in Kramatorsk with aerial bombs
- ‘No one knows whose skull this is’: Russia’s blockade starves occupied Oleshky (warning: graphic content)

News 'The cows graze well only when the drones aren’t buzzing,' says Olha, one of the last women in Chernechchyna, where Russian glide bombs flattened seven houses
"But when they’re buzzing, the cows go into the bushes and I can’t drag them out. And where would make them go? They’re what I live for. If it weren’t for them, I’d probably be dead and in the pine box by now. Whether I'm in paid or not, they need feeding. They understand everything. Once I was driving them along, I tripped, fell and was lying on the road. And a cow saw I wasn’t following her, came back and started nudging me. Thank God some soldiers were driving by. They saw me and thought maybe the old woman had kicked the bucket. But I came to, and we went home,” she adds.
The two neighbors, both named Olha, live in Sumy region near the border with Russia, and their village has been heavily damaged by Russian attacks. Both have lost their homes and been wounded, but they refuse to evacuate.
