We’ve seen an increase in posts from people building record-related apps and tools. These include collection managers, listening trackers, discovery tools, marketplace helpers, and other projects aimed at record enthusiasts.
We want to give these projects a place to be shared without letting individual promotional posts overwhelm r/vinyl or the reason this sub exists. Going forward, please use this megathread to introduce your project, request testers, share meaningful updates, or ask for feedback. Separate promotional posts for these projects will be removed and redirected here.
Projects are welcome whether they are traditionally coded, developed with AI assistance, or fully vibe coded. Be transparent about your approach, and keep the discussion focused on what the tool does, how it works, and whether it is useful to the record owning community.
If you’re sharing a project, please include:
· Name and link: What is it called, and where can people find it?
· Purpose: What does it do? What problem does it solve?
· Your involvement: Are you the developer, owner, contributor, or otherwise affiliated?
· Availability and cost: Is it a prototype, beta, or released product? Is it free, paid, ad-supported, or subscription-based?
· Development approach: Was it traditionally coded, AI-assisted, or primarily vibe coded? A brief description is enough.
· Data and permissions: Does it require an account, collection access, third-party credentials, or other personal information? Explain what you collect and how it is used. If user data is sent to an AI service, disclose that.
· Feedback wanted: What would you like people to test or comment on? Include known limitations.
A few ground rules:
· Keep projects relevant to records, collecting, or the vinyl listening experience.
· Use one top-level comment per project. Add updates and answer questions in that comment’s replies.
· No repeated sales pitches, unsolicited promotional messages, disguised advertising, or requests to upvote.
· Be accurate about features, security, and reliability. Clearly identify unfinished or experimental projects.
· Do not ask users to post passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information in the thread.
· All subreddit rules still apply.
For anyone trying these tools:
Sharing a project here does not mean the r/vinyl moderators have reviewed or endorsed it. Review costs, permissions, and privacy practices before signing up or connecting your collection.
Useful feedback is encouraged. Discuss features, usability, accuracy, privacy, and reliability. Questions about AI use are fair, but personal attacks and arguments about who counts as a “real developer” are not.
If you find an app is not accurately representing what it does, what it collects, how it uses shared data, is somehow malicious or any number of other concerns, please message the Mod Team with a link to relevant comment.

This is the part of my collection dedicated to Brazilian music (Bossa Nova, MPB, Brazilian Jazz): while most are 1960s and 1970s albums, I also have some more recent stuff (Sessa, Leonardo Marques, Ana Frango Elétrico).

The Heart of Saturday Night (1974), Tom Waits’ second album, is influential because it refined his early style into a cohesive, atmospheric portrait of nocturnal American life—blending jazz, blues, and folk with precise, Kerouac-tinged songwriting about bars, highways, loneliness, and fleeting romance—while featuring standout tracks like the title song, “San Diego Serenade,” “Shiver Me Timbers,” and spoken-word pieces such as “Diamonds on My Windshield,” all elevated by Bones Howe’s clean production, a tight small-group sound with horns and upright bass, and Waits’ still-husky voice; it served as a mature bridge from the folkier Closing Time to his jazzier Asylum-era records.
A Los Angeles Times retrospective judgment said that The Heart of Saturday Night is “perhaps the singer’s most mature, ingenuous and fully realized” album, a view echoed by writers who call it an essential, foundational early masterpiece.
It's not my personal favorite of his, (an I'm a fan) but it was released 52 years ago today, so it is getting a pull and a spin from me this morning.
My full collection.

Picked up this whole box of records for just $10 CAD here in Canada!
I’m pretty new to vinyl collecting, so I honestly have no idea what half of these records are. 😅

I (20M) have been really enjoying collecting records over the such a short time (my bank account hasn’t but it’s so worth it). Honestly it’s just so much fun interacting with my mates and having people pick records up off the wall.
Was just wondering if you record heads had any recommendations for my next purchase(es)! Looking to pick a few records up around Christmas so would be stoked to hear some rap/RnB/pop reco’s.
P.S. my favourite press on the last slide. Ended up picking up this blood records press because it just looked incredible, and imaginal disk has been one of my favs since it came out :D

Does anyone else find themselves appreciating the brief moment of silence in between when the last song on one side of a record stops and when you flip the record to the next side and drop the needle again? Every time I listen to my records, it’s always in this brief moment that I seem to recognize how calm and connected with the music I feel, almost like I’m in a meditative trance induced by what I’ve just heard. I’ve just been contemplating this unique feeling and I’m wondering if anyone else has felt the same.

Met up with the same seller from my last haul/post at the Kane County flea market just outside Chicago. The selection was pretty picked over, but his prices were lower (only $4 per record!) I was still able to find a few that I’ve been digging. Happy hunting!

It was hard to get a decent pic of the sleeve, but I was lucky enough to nab an OG 1979 UK pressing of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures with the textured sleeve from a seller living in the UK who also at least claimed he hung out in the late 70s Manchester punk/post-punk music scene, for a reasonable price. I'm realizing in the pic I took of the sleeve, there's a bit of dust on it and for sure the ghosts of many fingerprints, but the sleeve is very close to NM. Vinyl is for sure NM.
Having grown up super poor in a single mom household after my dad passed away when I was a kid from workplace exposure cancer, and ending up in recent years having my self-taught tech skills pay off in a way I feel wildly fortunate about, especially right now - basically my only sort of luxury expense or guilty pleasure is buying OG pressings of albums I'm a fan of.
It's also absolutely insane how much pressings from the late 60s, 70s and 80s are getting nowadays compared to about a decade ago when I was selling records on Discogs in 2016/2017. It makes total sense to me though: the desire for tangible, physical objects that also physically store music, in an era when everything has vanished into the cloud. I completely get the recent used CD revival over the last year or so too, in terms of actually owning the music.
Above all else, there's just something really cool to me about knowing this pressing existed when they originally put out the album in the late 70s, when Ian was still alive.
I'm just curious if there's anyone who isn't a musician talking about how much they love their record collection. I know Elijah Wood absolutely has videos about his record collection.

When I first brought this record home, I was pretty annoyed to open it up and find the gatefold of my Paul Horn Inside the Great Pyramid had a full Saturday Night Fever spread, and was all set to angrily denounce the seller. the more I read about it, I found this first pressing had an ultra rare misprinting of Travolta pics from the soundtrack album of the same year- 1977. Apparently a Shorewood packing plant anomaly
Does anyone else have a copy of this anomaly printing? Or share any other anomoly printing stories?! I mean, this to me is quite bizarre.

Stopped in at the Goodwill closest to my house yesterday. Been finding some decent things there the last few weeks. Yesterday took the cake though. Couldn't believe my eyes. They aren't in the best shape, and I left behind a bunch that were even more beat up, but I am thrilled with what I got. Everything was $2.

Most of my haul from a recent trip to Denver! I hit two Wax Trax stores (flagship and Northside), Black & Read in Arvada, and Twist & Shout.
It was so fun to dig in a new city and find records that haven't turned up at my local store. In Denver I found several things on my wantlist -- like Reputation, which I'd never found for sale in person before! -- and the prices felt a lot more reasonable overall than back home in the Bay Area.
Some context: I started collecting after my ex and I split a few months ago. He left me the record player and sound system out of guilt (but that's a story for another time).
An unexpected silver lining of being single again is being able to play 'my' music, whenever I want and with zero judgement. Hunting down my favorite albums has turned into building a little collection that makes me so happy anytime I put something on. 🤍
(and yes, the retail therapy has also helped... I'm gonna have to set some ground rules for myself soon lol)

I've been looking for the soundtrack to Car Wash for years and it turned up in a dollar bin.
Best. Soundtrack ever.
I collect records, and I sometimes look for 78s, as I like having the original records for music older than even vinyl. I just looked through a collection and I finally found this record. I’ve been looking for it for a long time (thanks of course, to Fallout), and I can fill the void in my 78 collection with THE Fallout song.

Cameron Picton from “black midi” and his new project “my new band believe”. Awesome complicated music. Beautiful release on red #vinyl

Just kidding. But jokes aside, vinyl prices really do bite. I’ve start my collection since December, when I got a turntable as a gift.
Quick question: is it okay to store records this tightly? Or should I give them some “breathing”? I don't have another shelf to spread them out right now..

Might not be the rarest or sought after but this thing from start to finish is a masterpiece.
