Collection Physical Media Cabinet

Post image
88 Upvotes

I finally finished this cabinet to store my physical media collection.

The cassettes, I purchased in a thrift store (80-90s grunge, rock, pop). The records are from my grandfather, grandmother, and great aunt (all country). The cds are my collection from the early 2000s (rock, rap).

The Aiwa is not great but it is compact and everything works. I have the radio antennas attached to the back of the cabinet in a big loop against the wall and I get great reception. The radio keeps my bird company during the day.

My OCD makes it imperative that there are no exposed wires. I'll paint it one day (probably never).

I bought this for a pretty penny an I think its a cheap fake an I need some advice and discogs uses the exact same photos

The j card looks real but the tape has some red flags the print is a little crooked and blurry an it still has the tabs on the top from when it was recorded which makes me think its fake

An the quality of the sound isn't really there

Looking for advice Cassettes only recording on left ear on my Yamaha K-40

Post image
5 Upvotes

So im very new to cassettes and all this jazz, so I got an old Yamaha K-40 from my grandparents basement and some cassettes and wanted to record music on them. I hooked up my MacBook to the input of the deck and played music, but for some reason it only records on the left side and I cant figure out how to make it play on both sides. I don’t know if its the computer, or maybe the cable? The deck works fine with playing prerecorded tapes but maybe its faulty? If you could help that would be fantastic!

Looking for advice Recording on BASF Type II Chrome

Thanks to everyone that offered some advice on my last post!

Anyone got some recording advice for these tapes? Seems to be an issue for some people. I usually have the bias set to about 11 o clock on my Denon DRM 700A. Also, I usually record pretty high when it comes to your plain Jane type I’s. Usually aiming for about a +3 db for each track. How should I change it up for the aforementioned Type II Chrome? From the sound of it I’m gleaning that I’m gonna have a lot of trial and error.

Thanks in advance, folks!

Yes I realize they're not all "grunge" and if you despise the term, who cares? I had fun making it. All were sourced directly from CD's with the exception of "Pets". I dubbed that one from the commercial cassette. Quality came out decent on my Sony TC-WR535. I'm happy with it.

i bought this Jensen cassette player MRC-60 about two weeks ago. everything had been fine until tonight. i cleaned the pincher since i had already played like 5 tapes already. now this happens a when im playing a tape. i’ve played 4 different tapes now and i keep getting the same “skipping” sound. i am convinced its the played and not my tapes. i think ill take it back where i purchased it from but thought i could trouble shoot on my own.

Home recording Humidity - Tascam Porta 02 recording

I’ve been doing a lot of lo-fi bedroom recordings into my 4-track lately. Here’s a weird one!
Gear used:
Guitar - Rickenbacker 330
Pedals - Boss OS-2 & DD-6, MXR Phase 90
Bass - Squier Mini P-Bass
Drums - Korg Volca Beats combined with T.E. PO-12 into the Volca Mix
Recorder - Tascam Porta 02 mkii 4-track
Guitar, bass, & drums were all lined directly into the 4-track for the recording, no pre amps just the pedals on git/bass

Looking for advice Azimuth adjustment for Walkman wm-we01

EDIT: turns out it was just a dirty tapehead. cleaned it and it sounds like new again! sorry for cluttering up the feed 😭

recently had a tape get stuck while closing the lid on my model and i think getting it out caused the head to become misaligned. The sound is a little muffled now and i'm really bummed out about it. is there any way i could adjust it? also I'm heading to toronto tomorrow so if anyone could recommend a business or person who could take a look at it i would really appreciate it.

Looking for advice Nakamichi 482Z Recording Issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi guys I’m having some problems with a Nakamichi 482Z cassette deck that I just purchased. While I’m recording, there’s a bunch of muffled static on the right channel and I can’t seem to identify what is the issue. It only arises after turning the deck on for a while. Playback is working completely fine and transport seems to be working well as well. Could it be an orange cap failure? if so I’m not sure how to identify which capacity is the problem. Hope you guys could help me out. Thank you so much!

Home recording Tascam Portastudio 424 mk1 pitch ?

Anybody have or had one?

The manual does state that the pitch -/+ works during both playback and recording. But it doesn't make the distinction if it continues to operate while in "SLOW" mode(15/16 IPS).

I have a nice offer for one locally and I'm really only interested in it's lofi capabilities...so was hoping for some insight. Thanks
