I tried to do them more slowly than in the previous real estate video. But it seems they are not very popular on Instagram, right?

Discussion / Other Tips for a strong portfolio?

It’s been 3 years since I updated my portfolio and I’m diving back into it to look for more work. Should I start from scratch or just re edit the old one with new work? What are your do’s and don’ts for a strong portfolio? What is the ideal length? Any tips before I dive in are much appreciated.

Behind the Scenes Question about Zeiss CP2

I want to put together a set of clean or “clinical” lenses (PL) that are the opposite of my Vespid Primes (warm, character-driven). I’m considering the Zeiss CP2 for many reasons, and I also love their microcontrast and “3D pop.” I mainly shoot fiction. Has anyone used both sets? Are they noticeably different from each other? Any thoughts on this? Thanks so much in advance!

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Taking photos and videos with a gimbal

hi everyone!

I work as a photographer and videographer at a small marketing agency. to save time and resources, we often visit clients who need both photography and video content for their businesses.

the challenge is that when I need to shoot smooth, stabilized footage, I have to use a gimbal. however, using one makes it harder to capture all the photo angles I’d like due to its size, weight, and the extra time it takes to set up and maneuver. as a result, I often end up shooting without a gimbal to stay flexible and work more efficiently, but then my footage isn’t as smooth as I’d like it to be.

my question is, do you guys also offer photography and videography services at the same time? If so, how do u handle this?

Discussion / Other How much content do you shoot in a month?

I'm an editor trying to figure out some asset management stuff and I'm looking for some input on how many hours of footage people shoot in a month. I don't care about file sizes, just time.

Like an hour long interview with 2 cams is 2 hours.

But a whole day of b-roll at multiple locations could also be 2 hours.

I know there are a lot of variables and fluctuation, just brain dump whatever your thoughts are and that'll probably help. As party of this I'm also curious to know what your role/job is if it's full time in production, or just a hobby, and what kind of content because I think that will impact the numbers a lot, like weddings vs corporate, etc.

I can't offer anything in return for you helping out but if you post something I'll leave a real nice compliment as a reply.

Technical/Equipment Help and Information How to make stereo audio into mono

I recorded a small birthday party. No fancy edits wanted just a continuous shot. I recorded the audio in stereo and it plays through one headphone on my Mac. How do can I make the audio mono so it can play through both headphones. Tried for an hour with Chat but it’s useless.

Please be nice

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Wireless HDMI-to-Smartphone Video Monitoring Setup Under €70?

I'm looking for a way to wirelessly stream my camera's video feed to a smartphone while keeping my external monitor working normally.

Currently I only have my Canon r7 connected to an external monitor, and I'd like to use the monitor's HDMI OUT as the video source and send the feed wirelessly to a smartphone.

What I'm looking for:

- A wireless transmitter (TX) with a full-size HDMI input.

- A receiver (RX) that can get the video feed onto a smartphone, either:

\- Directly via USB-C, or

\- Wirelessly through a dedicated app (Wi-Fi).

Ideally, the setup should work with both Android and iPhone, but Android compatibility is the priority.

- Budget: under €70.

My main phone is a Realme 12 Pro 5G. The other phone I'm going to use is an iPhone, but I currently don't know if it's either a 13, 14 or 15.

I know that most budget wireless HDMI kits have an HDMI output on the receiver designed for TVs or monitors, but I'm specifically looking for a way to view the feed on a smartphone without running a cable all the way to the phone.

Would a product like this exist within my budget? Are there any affordable wireless video transmitters that can stream directly to an Android phone through an app, or receivers that output video over USB-C?

Any recommendations, workarounds, or product suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Feedback / I made this! Could a series of vignettes be a film?

Genuine Q. I guess I'm asking if it could be compelling (and maybe just looking for encouragement but open to critique! :) I will be making an indie film soon, 1 weekend, 2 people, scenes will be planned and on camera performance will be naturalistic. No script as such. Possibly no dialogue (or will have to be ADR later cause I won't be managing audio in situ). Cinematography and mood as the main drivers. Will be by a lake. We will do this for a day and then drive back. Drives could add to scenes too. The goal is to make something interesting, even if not structured. Maybe it'll veer a little arthouse. Does this sound horrible? Any vignette films you liked?

Feedback / I made this! Shooting Thomas Turgoose (This Is England) on a low-loader with hard-sun continuity and a 35mm-inspired grade

Our team shot this branded film on an ARRI Alexa Mini (S35) with Lomo Illumina MK II primes: 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm.

The main dialogue scene was filmed inside an old Rover carried on a low-loader through Freeman Street in Grimsby. The setup gave us controlled movement and allowed the cast to focus on their performance, but camera positions and lighting control were limited. As the vehicle changed direction, hard sunlight, reflections and exposure could shift noticeably between angles and passes.

In the grade, we tried to move the digital material towards the texture and density of 35mm without making it feel like a heavy film-emulation effect.

I’d appreciate feedback specifically on whether the sunlight continuity holds together and whether the grade feels cohesive throughout?

And yes, former Grimsby Town captain James f&@*ing McKeown really is on sound.

Discussion / Other trouble with finding work - help appreciated!

I've been applying for jobs since graduating for about 6 months now. It's been a lotttt harder than I expected so I thought I'd ask here! I live in the bay area and graduated from ucla with some video/photo work for student life, athletics, and I even got to shadow a few sessions at a jubilee set which I'm grateful for.

the one thing is I have a tbi(traumatic brain injury) so my energy/capacity is lower than it was 7 years ago. this makes traditional 40 hour cubicle esque jobs less appealing for me. I think ideally I want something remote/hybrid or less rigourous scheduling so I have down time to pace myself when I have bad days. i think this is better than freelance because some structure is really helpful for me.

so far i've been looking on linkedin; decent amount of interviews but didn't result in anything, reaching out to nearby colleges for athletics(no call back unfortunately), trying to reach out for even some freelance work and short term contracts has been hard.

any advice to help me out? thanks

I am still early in my time as a wedding videographer and have a couple weddings under my belt now, but I still have much to improve. I am in no way positioning myself as a luxury filmmaker, but more as a fun, documentary-style shooter with less of an emphasis on drama. Would love any and all feedback. Thank you!!

Discussion / Other Anyone know a modern digital camera that looks like super8 film?

I currently record most things on VHS and mini VHS. I wanna get into super eight but it’s too expensive to develop for even though I have cameras and film. If I did the math correctly it’s like $1.30 for every min or so. And I would like to have the convenience of a digital camera since I record most of my life with my family trying to archive it just like they did back in the 50s through the 90s.

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Is it possible to fix a video with poor focus?

I filmed a wedding ceremony, and unfortunately, my focus was set on the background rather than the couple. The background is crisp and sharp, but the bride and groom are noticeably out of focus.

I'm hoping to salvage the footage by bringing the couple into focus and making them appear sharp, while softening the background to create more natural-looking depth of field.

Are there any AI tools, software, or post-production techniques that could help achieve this? I'm particularly interested in anything that can recover detail and sharpen an out-of-focus subject in moving video, rather than simply sharpening the entire frame.

Has anyone successfully rescued footage like this? I'd love recommendations for specific software, workflows, plugins, or techniques worth trying.

This is important wedding footage, so I'm willing to explore paid options if there's a realistic chance of improving it. Thank you!
