Titan 2 Elite: two weeks in, after nearly 20 years on iPhone

Hi all,

kind of new to reddit and this is my first post!

I've been using the Titan 2 Elite for almost exactly two weeks now and wanted to share some first impressions. (Germany)

I really want to love this phone. I enjoy picking it up every day, and after nearly 20 years on iPhone, it feels good to have something that reminds me of a BlackBerry again. Android took some time getting used to, but I can now see the pros and cons of both systems. A few things that i totally forgot about from the apple eco system - My Airtags don´t work and i shared my location with my wife via iPhone which was kind of handy sometimes. Also, i use the Airpods and i dont like that i can not start "hey google" with Airpods. But i can live with that.

Honestly, I haven't missed my iPhone once so far (iPhone 17pro MAX). An unexpected bonus even it was not a problem before: I've barely touched Instagram or TikTok or any other social media app. They work, but they're just not much fun on this phone. I mostly use it to get things done, which suits me. To break it down:

The good

  • Its so small compared to iPhone, love it. Screen is more ore less half the size of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
  • Less distraction. I spend less time scrolling and more time using my phone for something useful.
  • The display scaling. I like the small text and how much fits on the screen. My wife thinks it's way too small, so that's definitely a matter of preference. But i have to admint, that if you want to click a link on a website its getting difficult and i miss the button quite often and it don´t feel as responsive as on the iphone.
  • Keyboard shortcuts. Being able to jump straight into apps from the keyboard is great.
  • The fingerprint reader. It works really well and picks up my finger easily. Almost too easily.
  • The feel of it. I've missed having a physical keyboard. I also haven't had this many people ask about my phone in years world wide - India, Dubai, Germany....
  • Performance is generally fine. It's fast enough for what I need. Spotify does get sluggish and laggy sometimes, though. No idea whether that's the app or the phone.
  • Using the RIPE launcher which is kind of a blackbarry style OS. Really love it and i hope there will be some improvements coming.

The bad

  • The speaker is terrible. YouTube, podcasts, speakerphone calls — none of them are pleasant to listen to.
  • Battery life is kind of disappointing. Even with barely any social media use, I struggle to make it through the day without topping it up. But i picked it up also quite often for emails and configuration - there is a lot to configure on android and especially Pastiera / Plektra. So i give it a few more weeks.
  • The keyboard is my biggest issue, which is frustrating because it's also the reason I bought the phone. I don't know if I got a bad unit, but some keys seem to need more pressure than others to register. Especially the first row under the screen. I keep missing letters even when I'm sure I've pressed the key and heard it click. It makes it hard to type quickly or trust what I'm typing. I've had the same problem with both the stock keyboard software and Plektra (formerly Pastiera). I've attached a video to show what I mean. "R" is kind of extreme. I dont know if there is some kind of fix to it.
  • It's too easy to touch the fingerprint reader by accident. When I slide the phone into my pocket, I keep brushing the sensor with a finger or part of my hand and getting a little vibration. Then I'm left wondering whether I just unlocked the phone or got a notification. It's a small thing, but it gets annoying.
  • I'd rearrange Shift, Alt and Enter. Their positions don't feel natural to me yet, although I'll probably get used to them.
  • Scrolling with the keyboard feels a bit rough. From what I remember, it felt smoother and more precise on my BlackBerry.

Despite those issues, this phone has reminded me how much I like keyboard phones. I enjoy using it for emails and chats, and I want more phones like this to exist.

I've also ordered the Clicks Communicator and am very close to ordering the Minimal Phone 2. I just like the MP02 design so much.

But I need the typing to be reliable. Pressing some buttons extra hard to get a response just dont feel like a natural typing experience. If the missed keypresses don't improve (maybe i get used to it over time), I'll be hoping one of the others gets that part right. I also want to reach out to Unihertz.

TL:DR: i love the phone, i love physical keyboard, software can improve a bit but man, the keyboard has to work properly. Then i would never look to any other phone.

Anyone else getting missed letters even when you can feel and hear the key click?

Review JellyStar touchscreen became unresponsive exactly one month after the 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty 🙃

It's also the single most satisfying fidget I've ever owned—take that however you want. 🎃

Edit: Being more thorough in my review, I dropped this phone A LOT, at HIGH VELOCITIES, just really slamming into the ground. Not on purpose, but if you swing it around like this enough, it's bound to happen. I never ran into any issues until last week, but it was a whole year of that. I would say that's on me, but as a career fidgeter, I would appreciate a JellyStar designed for this exact purpose. The catch weight is insane—just enough to make swinging it a breeze, but not so much that it gets tiring quickly. Don't even get me started on the form factor! So satisfying to catch in the palm. I wish it had a slideout keyboard though. That would've made it perfect. I actually would've been perfectly okay with a little extra bulk if they could make that work. I miss my old Sidekick in that way. I try to be as minimal as possible when I go out, and the JellyStar's portability really cannot be overstated. It's surprisingly easy to get used to for media, so it's not a perfect dumbphone, but it was just frustrating enough to make it not really worth being on while socializing, so I had significantly fewer soft-glow-standing-in-the-corner moments around my friends. ✅️

Help wanted Valutazione corretta Titan 2

Ciao a tutti!

Help wanted Jelly Max keeps killing an app

I tried disabling app blocker and even removed it completely with universal android debloater. The app has all the permissions and unrestricted battery access. When I close it in the background apps menu it should keep running and showing that it runs in the notifications, but the phone kills it. It's a VPN app. How to prevent this?

T2E Pastiera Keyboard

I installed pastiera on my titan elite, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the lower status bar for the keyboard. Almost every app with an input method defaults to having a small lower empty blank bar below the text input area.

With a smaller screen, I want to keep as much usable space as possible. Is there a pastiera or android setting, or both, that needs to be toggled off?

I ordered the orange Titan 2 Elite in early September to the US. I see several people have received their 70xxx+ orders. Is anyone else still waiting that ordered around the same time? I know the orange take a little longer.

Help wanted Update: Titan 2 Elite screen replacement — paid $95 USD to Unihertz NO Shipping and NO Response

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hi everyone :)

Some of you may remember my original post about my cracked Titan 2 Elite screen and Unihertz support.

A quick update on what's happened since.

After my original post gained some attention, Unihertz replied publicly, saying they weren't refusing to provide a replacement and that their support team would contact me to arrange it.

After several more emails, I was eventually offered the chance to purchase a replacement screen for US$95 (US$80 for the screen + US$15 shipping). I paid via PayPal on the 21st of September and sent confirmation as requested.

Great, problem solved? Unfortunately, not quite.

3 and a half weeks later I still haven't received any shipping confirmation, tracking details or an estimated delivery date. My follow-up emails have gone unanswered, and I have no idea when (or even if) the screen will arrive.

I understand that Unihertz is a smaller manufacturer and that sourcing parts takes time. I also understand that it Golden Week as I happened to be in China at the time and it would have delayed things a bit. I'm not expecting next-day delivery, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect basic communication after paying for a product.

I'm sharing this so potential buyers have an update beyond my original post.

Unihertz did eventually make a replacement screen available to purchase (through a PayPal request, it still is not available on their website), but taking my money, not even sending out the part and not responding to emails has made a bad situation much worse than it needed to be.

I'll update this post if I receive a response or the screen arrives.

TL;DR:

My Titan 2 Elite screen cracked while using the supplied case and protector.
Unihertz eventually offered a replacement for US$95 including shipping, which I've paid.
3.5 weeks later I have no shipping details or delivery estimate, follow-up emails have gone unanswered.

Update: Unihertz emailed me today apologizing for ''missing'' the email (i sent two) I sent and have said that the shipment has been ''processed'' with no receipt or shipping information. I think it goes without saying that only getting a response when publicly posting on this sub is not the way support should be handled.

Help wanted Titan 2 Elite: apps bugggy and stop working

Hey, i have had my t2e for around 2 months now and i noticed since then more and more apps either completly stopped working or got glitchy. Note that this wasnt the case at first.

Affected apps:

- lidl (crashes immediatly)

- westbahn (crashes immediatly)

- ms teams (buggy interface)

- g maps ( satellite view doesnt show sattelite but normal maps only buggy with things missing and not displaying correctly)

It feels like it gets worse every week. Ive tried different webview versions but so far nothing works. Now i waited another 3 weeks that maybe an update drops but nohing is happening. Does anyone have similar problems or know anyghing?

T2E Toolbox - Sharing an app I made with Gemini that fixed some annoyances I have with the device [Shizuku Required]

This app was made in the Antigravity IDE with Gemini coding and Claude researching at times. I know vibe coded/AI made apps are not everyone’s thing, so I wanted to be very upfront.

Hello, just wanted to share an app I made to address some annoyances I had with the T2E. I spun this one up quickly because there were some things I wanted changed on the phone.

This requires Shizuku and was made for the T2E specifically.

  • Status Bar Flashlight Icon: Puts a clean icon dead-center in the status bar when the flashlight is on, so you know immediately if the side key accidentally turned it on in your pocket. Doesn’t block status bar touches.
    • I have long press on the programmable key set to turn on the flashlight and realized I had left the flashlight on a couple of times. This helps show when the flashlight is on.
  • Side-Key Volume Mode Switcher: Lets you map the programmable side key to cycle Sound → Vibrate → Silent instantly with haptic feedback, without opening any app screen.
    • Can be used with any other programmable key; it just adds a launchable shortcut that cycles sound profiles.
    • I have it set to a double press of the orange/red side key.
  • Unified Status Bar Swipe: Restores stock Android swipe-down behavior (first swipe opens notifications, second swipe opens Quick Settings).
    • I hated the split status bar behavior coming from a Pixel; this changes the behavior back to “stock” Android.
  • Display Fix: Calibrated screen resolution/density scaling via Shizuku with 1-tap backup/restore.
    • This is the least tested one, but it is supposed to change screen rendering from 1080p to about 800p to save a bit of battery while trying to maintain scaling. I used it for a couple of days with no issues before going back to “stock” sizing.
    • Warning: if you have the built-in pedometer disabled or uninstalled, it wreaks havoc on the lockscreen when changing density.
    • This setting should be used with caution, and only by those who are comfortable with ADB and have already set it up on their device to rescue it in case something with scaling goes south. Unihertz system packages get weird when you start really messing with wm sizing.
    • When you use wm sizing and then reboot, the system changes things back to stock; this reapplies the sizing after a reboot.

It collects no data, is fully local, and is open source.

Requirements: Shizuku (no root needed) & Accessibility service.

Download / Source: https://github.com/eqbirvin/T2EToolbox/releases

Unlike my other app, Conduit, this one is not my pride and joy lol, just a tool I made to fix issues I had with the device and add some handy features. I did not enforce a design language or comprehensive smoke tests. I provide no guaranteed support and it will remain a fully vibe-coded app, but drop requests, questions, complaints, anything here and I will try to respond. It does not have a built-in updater, so check releases page regularly if you want to keep on top of new features and fixes I add.

I only shared this because I found it helpful, and figured someone else might too

Unihertz Affiliate Program

Has anyone had any experience with their affiliate program? We have been making quite a lot of sales for them (over $23k) on a very low commission rate, but after each month they cancel every single order.

Their support is none existent (which I am seeing from other posts), so I am just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience?

Noise cancellation on T2E?

So got my Titan 2 Elite in summer, took a while to get used to but after a while started loving it. Physiboard was the big shift for me, slightly lower DPI for little more screen space and a proper working keyboard handler.

coming from years of iOS Android feels really mature and flexible, haven't used it since the first Google Nexus.

However I'm getting so much complaints from the lack of noise cancellation / voice isolation when making calls. I call a lot, it's the primary function of my phone. Mostly using WhatsApp, Signal or sometimes plain old cellular.

I'm using my Airpod Pro's gen 3 and they're fine on any apple hardware. I've tried to put signal and whatsapp into low data mode to no avail.

Folks complain the voice isolation does not work and they have a very immersive sound experience to what ever I am doing. Even so bad when walking the dog, the actual birds in the trees come through so loud folks go 'wtf the birds are so loud!!!'. It seems it sometimes amplifies random ambient sounds :-(

Now getting peer pressure to get a normal phone again for the sake of having proper voice isolation. Anything I can do about it? Or is my journey on this cute little phone coming to an end?

I hate to admit it...

It has been two weeks already with my cute Titan 2 Elite... I personalised it with a lovely wallpaper and really tried to get used to it as my only phone. It has actually been okay, alright, but yesterday something hit hard when I wanted to see how I would feel holding my ex-phone, aka iPhone 15. God, the only feeling I felt was just 'missing it'. I really hate to admit it, but yes, after months of waiting and dreaming about this cute phone, I have realised that I'm in love with the idea only. Practically this small screen is not for me. At least not as my daily driver, sadly.

So, yeah, I guess I will sell it from Spain if anyone is interested, black version.

Titan 2 Elite Key Recognition Issues

I received the Titan 2 Elite, but there's an issue where the left shift key and alt key don't work well.

After looking it up, I confirmed that there are other users besides me who are experiencing this issue, and I raised the issue with a video on Unihertz. It took some time to receive a response, but I received it as follows, and I am sharing this response for those like myself who are waiting for these measures.

---------

Hi there,

Thanks for provding the video. We will release a new updates to improve the typing experience with the physical keyboard soon.

If you still have the similar typing issue after the new update, please contact us again.

Rgards,

---------

To be honest, I doubt if this issue can be resolved with a software patch, but we have no choice but to wait for now.

Keyboard input appearing on Niagara launcher

Post image
3 Upvotes

Recently, the keyboard input pops up for no reason on the home screen, preventing me from using the keyboard shortcuts for launching apps directly.

It is not persistent; it does go away when I press the back button. But it just returns sometime, especially when I lock and unlock the screen. I am also running Pastiera keyboard if that matters.
