Retail & Market Discussion Who keeps giving synthesizers to Goodwill??
Good luck to anyone bidding, but this will go for market price. They've had a few Junos in the past.

My Setup / New Synth Day After 20 years of making music with VSTis I decided to go outboard
...and I think this was the best decision. Finally, I am having joy again: turning knobs, moving sliders, sculpting the sound, jamming like a kid. There is something magical in this tactile feedback, working with real instruments. I couldn't afford it earlier, still most of my synths are rather cheap, but these little creatures bring the spark back :)
Feeling ready for winter.

Performances, Jams We recently played an extended live hardware set, and I'm never going back to computers.

Making music with hardware synths has truly been a game-and-life changer for me. The fluidity and connection with physical instruments has deeply transformed my experience creating, performing and enjoying music.
This clip here is a little fragment from a recent set with VEEM, our live hardware trio. This is an ambient section we did during our 1h35min set, which spanned different variants of techno and breaks. The occasion was ESPEJISMOS Live, which is the event series of our live and hardware focused collective in Buenos Aires. I invite you to check out the full set on YouTube!
The setup included 2x Elektron Digitone 2, 1x Analog Rytm, 1x Digitakt, 1x Octatrack, 1x Novation Peak, 1x Arturia Keystep and a Behringer Xenyx 16 channel mixer.
Endless fun which I'm not willing to let go of anytime soon.

Performances, Jams MicroMonsta 2 - Patch building & Bi-Timbral Mode (No Talking)
This isn't a full on review or a tour of the MicroMonsta 2, there are many features I don't talk about or touch on, this is just me having some fun. Building a couple of pad-like patches and playing them in bi-timbral mode.

DIY / Repair Orovela -- new OS for the Ensoniq Mirage
Right up front:
- Yes, I used AI
- No, this won't brick your Mirage, because the Mirage always loads its OS from disk -- if this doesn't work for some reason, just reload the OS you were using previously
I've been working on a new OS for Ensoniq Mirage samplers, and now it's ready: Orovela
(No video yet -- maybe someone with more free time will make one.)
Orovela replaces the complicated multisample structure of the stock OS with a simple workflow.
Sample a sound and it's mapped across the whole keyboard in a single layer, like a Casio SK-1 with analog filters and a much better synth engine.
It also makes every parameter editable live from the mod wheel (and/or MIDI CC1). You can finally sweep the filter, alter LFO parameters, and change envelope values with a continuous controller.
I added some other cool features:
- Reverse sample playback
- More LFO waveforms (triangle, saw up/down, square, random), simultaneous destinations (amp, cutoff, res, pitch), and a wider speed range
- Bipolar pitch envelope
- Velocity to filter cutoff and resonance
- More flexible detuning, including detune drift
- Utility functions: octave +/- shift, MIDI panic
Its top sample rate is 15.5 kHz, but now a disk image holds 10 programs (sample + params).
In addition, Orovela Sample Manager is a Windows programs that can:
- Create new Orovela programs from samples on disk
- Combine up to 10 programs into a new Orovela disk image
- Save Orovela programs to disk from a disk image
- Extract samples from an Orovela disk image
The link at the top has source code, but also a disk image ready for loading into a USB floppy emulator, plus docs and the sample manager executable.
Developed and tested on a DSK-1 keyboard variant, but I expect it to work on all Mirage models.

Got this TR-1000 open box model for only on sweetwater for a STEAL and it's perfectly mint!
I have a massive learning curve ahead of me but I'm excited to dive into it.

What Should I Buy? Need advice on replacing two synths with one. Good idea?
So, I have a somewhat eclectic setup (by design) but have been reading up on a couple of synths that may be a better solution than what I currently have.
The two synthesizers in question are my Sequential Circuits Six Trak and my Behringer Poly D. I love both of them but have found, especially with the Six Trak, I don't use them a whole lot because they just don't fit into the mix of what I work on.
I'll be honest, I have more of an emotional attachment to the Six Trak as its a synth I'd always wanted. But, for the most part, it just isn't hitting the sweet spot. The Poly D is a fantastic instrument but I think there might be better options (analog).
So, here's my question:
Trade/sell my Poly D and Six Trak for a Sequential Forum or Oberheim Teo? The Forum looks especially interesting as its affordable and has many of the features I look for. Obviously, its a much more advanced synth than the Six Trak and has two oscillators vs. the Six Trak's one.
I think you get the gist of what I'm asking. Any thoughts/advice?
Thanks much!

Beginner Questions Got the circuit tracks... it's a good beginner device, but I'm looking to add something that can be added to utilize my MIDI controller + export to ableton live lite
As someone who is not fully committed to this hobby and just dabbling, I've come to the conclusion that even though I'd love to be DAWless, it's not realistic unless you're willing to spend a whole lot. I currently have a Novation Circuit tracks
I originally posted a similar thread because I wanted to avoid screen fatigue since I have an office job (at the screen all day), and game. It's just too complex and clunky for me to go all out though, so here's my idea: make various "scenes" like ableton has, then transport to ableton to get a full song going with fx etc.
I know everyone is thinking "just get an ableton move!"... I am not needing another groovebox, and frankly I like my circuit tracks so yeah. But, if it can compliment my CT rather than just be a straight up replacement, I'm open to it. I am not familiar with what the best device would be to be a bridge from the circuit tracks to bring in my work into a DAW?
Some things that have come up in similar threads: 1010music blackbox/tangerine, sp404mk2, ableton move, minifreak
I'm more interested in layering and experimenting than live mixing, so the above seem nice + can connect to my Akai Mini MPK mk4.
TLDR: not committed to spending a bunch of money for this hobby, have a Circuit Tracks, want to get another piece of hardware to both expand my DAWless potential with the CT AND export my work to ableton live lite 12 to add more sounds, depth, fx etc

What Should I Buy? Could i make Botchka on a model:cycles? (undecided cycles/samples as a noob)
Hi, i'm a complete noob and i'm still undecided on which model i should buy, the cycles seems better to get creative with it on it's own but i'm not sure i'll be able to play stuff like botchka (was wondering about hardgroove aswell) because i haven't found a video playing these genres with the cycles yet. Hardgroove i think it would be much easier but idk how it would sound on the cycles.
With the model:samples i would be able to directly import the botchka/industrial kicks and play with it but won't be able to tweak those kicks and tracks live with the shape color sweep things, but if i buy a samples i'll be lost when it comes to other kind of music and the samples i'd need to import so i don't think i'll be able to have fun as easily in the beginning?(tell me if i'm wrong)
And about the model-TG mod, if it's just stuff like botchka, industrial hardtech or hardcore i won't be able to make then i'll download it but i don't want to become dependent on it to make the stuff i like if i can just buy a samples.

Discussion Has anyone had hands on time with a Queen Elymra drone synth?
I know they're not yet being commercially produced, but I was wondering if one has been shown off at any of the synth shows/conventions.
As a Lyra-8 lover, the Queen looks like a pretty fucking cool alternative. I really, really enjoy the screenless, completely hands on experience of playing the Lyra, but the patch points, fx+fx routing, and possibility of a sequencer and voices that stay in tune are appealing in another way. It's one expensive drone synth, but I'm gassing for it.
Would love to hear anyone's experience with it!
Paging u/neutral-labs (hope that's cool) for any info on whether the Queen has been available for people to try yet

Retail & Market Discussion Built a software synth, am I too late?
I spent the last year building my dream software synth. I’m really proud of it and I think it’s really great, and unique. I have exclusively used it to make all my music in that time because I genuinely love the workflow and the sounds I get from it.
But now, when I’m so near to release, it seems like all anyone is talking about is how vibe coded apps have destroyed the market and there’s no hope of turning a profit or even getting your work any attention. People have already accused me of using AI in my art & music so I’m sure the same thing will happen with this.
Of course I don’t feel like I wasted my time since I find the synth so inspiring, but I can’t help but feel really discouraged. I’m stuck in a dead end job and I realistically can’t just give this synth away for free after all the work I’ve put in.
It’s extra discouraging because I finally pivoted out of pursuing music as a career path a few years ago because it felt basically impossible to make any meaningful money in it. It just seems like there’s no way forward, all the doors are closing. Not sure why I’m even posting this. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat or has any insight.

What Should I Buy? Cool cheap synthesizers
What are some cheap synths (<$100) that are really cool and fun to play. I have a few older Casios and just recently ordered an fm1 and want to see what other cheap synths people love.
