Hello, Reddit! Caroline Bicks here, author of Monsters in the Archives: My Year of Fear with Stephen King. I'm a Shakespeare professor who grew up loving Stephen King's stories. When I took the job of Stephen E. King Chair in Literature nine years ago, I was told I'd never meet the man himself. Four years into the job, he called me at home, and we started to develop a great working relationship. He granted me first-of-its-kind access to his private archives, and my book grew out of what I found when I read all the existing drafts of Carrie, Pet Sematary, Night Shift, The Shining, and 'Salem's Lot. I look forward to sharing what I discovered with you about how he crafted these iconic books! https://carolinebicks.com

My older brother passed away in May.
A few years ago we bought a cemetery plot.
My older sister and I picked out the headstone,my twin brother picked the color and I picked the quote at the base of the stone.
My family knows I'm a huge Constant Reader and fan of pop culture. My sister said my older brother would have loved that I picked this out.
With the release of his new book and my love of The Gunslinger I thought I'd share this with all of you.
My sister and brother's names are on the front.

I tried drawing a more book accurate Carrie after finishing the new Carrie series. I decided to lean more into Stephen Kingās description of the character, with visuals inspired by the 1979 adaptation.

Like, I've never seen such a large amount of people WORLDWIDE interested in Carrie like right now. People are revisiting the old movies, comparing them and the performances. It's #1 on Prime worldwide, I even have friends who have never watched any Carrie movie now interested in rewatching the 1976 and 2013.
This feels like a revival of Carrie as a brand. After Carrie (2013), I thought she would never get another adaptation because of the poor reception. But look at the fanbase now!?
Carrie is one of my favorite characters ever and it's just heartwarming to see her traumatic story be embraced by a whole new generation and millions more.

After watching the new series I had to go back and watch all the movies and painted this during that marathon.

From what I can tell, Derry, Maine is first mentioned in 1981, written by King, and then again as being the location of the airport in THE RUNNING MAN, released in 1982, as Bachman, then again in 1982 The Body, 1983 Pet Semetary, and again in a few short stories as part of the Skeleton Crew (1983-1984), and in 1985 King was revealed to be Bachman.
I mean, all things considered, even Rage and The Long Walk were set in Maine. Youād think if King was worried about it, he would have had second thoughts about revisiting a fictional town he made up, as his pseudonym, or change the state from Maine to, like Vermont. Seems like a huge oversight on his part?

Just seeing her in the distance was so creepy to me. It reminds me of an old creepypasta called the wanderer

So, I finally decided to read these 2 books, they're gonna be book 48 and 49 for me from the wonderful Stephen King. Now, I'm super unsure about which to read first, what would you recommend and is there a reason? Does one spoil the other?

Just finished reading The Wizard and Glass and I can't even explain how much I loved it. Took me almost a full month to finish it, mainly because I kept slowing down, I was too attached to the story and wasn't ready to let it go š
Bird and bear and hare and fish, give my love her fondest wish" š„¹
Needless to say, it's my favorite book so far, so it is!
Onto The Wind Through The Keyhole! What are your thoughts on this š?
