Man I just watched it and it was amazing the book has to be better (spoiler) Spoiler
I’m a grown man, and I shed tears at the ending of 11.22.63. I put off watching this show for two years, and I usually don’t care much for miniseries, but Stephen King worked his magic with this one.
To me, this was ultimately a love story about a love that could never truly be. Jake could have easily gone back in time and fallen in love with Sadie all over again, but he saw what that would mean and chose to walk away she even said something like we can’t abandon your mission for our love they both knew subconsciously and he very well could of went back fell back in love with her but that would seem weirdly strange he just goes back and orchestrates a relationship with a stranger the trust would not be they’re initially it was just happenstance and his reason for time traveling was to kill LHO but now it would be to stalk a woman whom he fell in love with that does not even know him . I think they both subconsciously knew the circumstances would probably not pan out the way they both intended and the ending was top tier them dancing at the ceremony brung the waterworks
The casting was top-tier, and the story showed a side of human emotion that was both vulnerable and rational. Even when Jake suggested staying and allowing the president to be assassinated, Sadie told him no. He had a mission, and I think deep down, they both understood that he couldn’t stay. As much as they loved each other, there was something bigger than the two of them at stake.
One of my biggest issues with miniseries that span several years is that they often feel rushed. Relationships develop, years pass, and before you know it, everything is over. But this show gave its characters and their relationship enough room to breathe. The only episode that felt a little rushed to me was the finale, and honestly, that was understandable given everything it had to wrap up.
All in all, it was a beautiful story about love, sacrifice, duty, and accepting what you cannot change. I’ll definitely be reading the book. Stephen King reminded me that a story doesn’t have to end happily for it to be beautiful, and sometimes the most heartbreaking endings are the ones that stay with you the longest.
