Hello, Reddit! Caroline Bicks here, author of Monsters in the Archives: My Year of Fear with Stephen King. I'm a Shakespeare professor who grew up loving Stephen King's stories. When I took the job of Stephen E. King Chair in Literature nine years ago, I was told I'd never meet the man himself. Four years into the job, he called me at home, and we started to develop a great working relationship. He granted me first-of-its-kind access to his private archives, and my book grew out of what I found when I read all the existing drafts of Carrie, Pet Sematary, Night Shift, The Shining, and 'Salem's Lot. I look forward to sharing what I discovered with you about how he crafted these iconic books! https://carolinebicks.com

My older brother passed away in May.

A few years ago we bought a cemetery plot.

My older sister and I picked out the headstone,my twin brother picked the color and I picked the quote at the base of the stone.

My family knows I'm a huge Constant Reader and fan of pop culture. My sister said my older brother would have loved that I picked this out.

With the release of his new book and my love of The Gunslinger I thought I'd share this with all of you.

My sister and brother's names are on the front.

Discussion Casual King fan, I found this in a bookstore bargain bin. Is it worth the read? How would it compare to his other books?

It’s been my job to go through my grandma’s estate and she’s got incredible stuff, including this. Hardcover and still sealed.

I’ve been wanting to read Rage.

I tried drawing a more book accurate Carrie after finishing the new Carrie series. I decided to lean more into Stephen King’s description of the character, with visuals inspired by the 1979 adaptation.

Discussion Carrie (2026) Does anyone feel grateful for this show or is it just me?

Like, I've never seen such a large amount of people WORLDWIDE interested in Carrie like right now. People are revisiting the old movies, comparing them and the performances. It's #1 on Prime worldwide, I even have friends who have never watched any Carrie movie now interested in rewatching the 1976 and 2013.

This feels like a revival of Carrie as a brand. After Carrie (2013), I thought she would never get another adaptation because of the poor reception. But look at the fanbase now!?

Carrie is one of my favorite characters ever and it's just heartwarming to see her traumatic story be embraced by a whole new generation and millions more.

I am currently reading Salem’s Lot, I just reached Part 3. After Salem’s Lot, these are the books I am planning to read in October and November. This list is probably tentative, but I’m liking the way it looks. What’s your fall TBR?

General Tbh, I think it’s interesting in hindsight that Stephen King was surprised when he was revealed to be Richard Bachman, since ā€œbothā€authors mention Derry, Maine, which King made up.

From what I can tell, Derry, Maine is first mentioned in 1981, written by King, and then again as being the location of the airport in THE RUNNING MAN, released in 1982, as Bachman, then again in 1982 The Body, 1983 Pet Semetary, and again in a few short stories as part of the Skeleton Crew (1983-1984), and in 1985 King was revealed to be Bachman.

I mean, all things considered, even Rage and The Long Walk were set in Maine. You’d think if King was worried about it, he would have had second thoughts about revisiting a fictional town he made up, as his pseudonym, or change the state from Maine to, like Vermont. Seems like a huge oversight on his part?

Discussion Was IT: Chapter 2 (2019) overhated when it released, or did it deserve some of the hate it got

Post image
7 Upvotes

I was rewatching this since it’s the Halloween season, and sure it’s not as strong or better then Chapter 1 and the CGI is overuse, but other then that I kinda liked it.

Since I was aware about the mixed to negative reception it had when it released, I wanted to ask other about their opinions since it’s now been over 7 years since its release.

Just finished reading The Wizard and Glass and I can't even explain how much I loved it. Took me almost a full month to finish it, mainly because I kept slowing down, I was too attached to the story and wasn't ready to let it go šŸ˜‚

Bird and bear and hare and fish, give my love her fondest wish" 🄹

Needless to say, it's my favorite book so far, so it is!

Onto The Wind Through The Keyhole! What are your thoughts on this šŸ“™?

Long days and pleasant nights!
