Question Which cockpit should I get? GTRacer2.0 or Victory

• Upvotes

I’m torn. On one side I have already spent a lot of money, but on the other, I don’t want to skimp out just to replace it later. I’m looking for a middle of the road rig for production car driving/racing. I was originally looking at the NLR Victory rig, but it is currently out of stock, but I found one on Best Buy for 20 more dollars. But I know the victory isn’t a fantastic rig, so I was also looking at the NLR GTRacer 2.0. It would be a rig that would last me longer and be a more permanent fixture.

I don’t know a lot about cockpits since it’s my first one. The GTRacer rig is a bit out of my price range, especially if I am also buying a vr along side it but I also want to future proof a bit. What are the professional’s opinions?

I know for a fact I will be buying a new rig since the wheel stand I am using if very poor quality and not built to handle over 5 nm wheels

I am 6’ 3” 260 pounds (190cm 117kg) and currently use a Moza R9 srp2 pedals and a Thrustmaster shifter, with a potential handbrake in the near future

Question PXN VD6 startup calibration — is my wheelbase behaving normally or is it defective?

Hi everyone,
I have a PXN VD6 direct drive wheelbase with a GT ONE steering wheel and PD HM pedals, and I’m trying to figure out whether my wheelbase’s startup behavior is normal.
When I power on the wheelbase, its behavior seems inconsistent:
If the steering wheel is already near the center, it barely moves during startup.
If I turn the wheel away from the center before powering it on, it sometimes rotates unpredictably and doesn’t return to the correct center position.
I’ve already tried center calibration in PXN SimRacing and updated the firmware, but the issue persists.
I’m confused because I’ve seen conflicting information about DD wheelbases. Some people say direct drive wheels don’t need to rotate during startup to find the center, while PXN’s product information mentions automatic self-calibration.
I’d really appreciate answers from actual PXN VD6 owners:
Does your VD6 rotate left and right every time you power it on?
If it doesn’t rotate, does it still maintain the correct steering center?
If you turn the wheel away from center before powering it on, does it return to the correct center automatically?
Does the startup behavior differ between firmware versions 1.03 and 1.04?
I’m currently using firmware 1.03 because I experienced pedal input issues with 1.04 in F1 25.
I’m mainly trying to determine whether my wheelbase is operating as designed or if it may have a calibration or hardware problem.
Thanks in advance!

Rigs Need help selecting a gear shift for Logitech G Pro wheel

As per title, I have a Logitech G Pro and matching pedals (on a PlaySeat Trophy) and want to get a shifter that is compatible with both PS5 (for GT7 and AC/ACC, WRC etc) and with Windows 11 as well (again for AC/ACC/AC Evo/AC Rally, LMU). I know Logitech make their own RS shifters but I can't afford to buy two of them because ideally I'd like one that can switch between sequential and H-pattern, such as the Fanatec ClubSport SQ v1.5, but apparently that needs to be plugged into a Fanatec base to work on the PS5. I also looked at the Thrustmaster TH8a but not sure that would be PS5 compatible for the same reason. ChatGPT suggested DriveHub but it doesn't seem to be on sale anymore.
Can any of you experts out there recommend any other good shifters that would fully work with a G Pro on both PS5 and PC?

Rigs First Simrig, don’t want to upgrade for a while

Post image
50 Upvotes

Hey everyone, after a bit of research I finally built my first rig and I couldn’t be happier

•Sim Lab GT1 EVO
•Moza R12 wheelbase with SRP2 pedals and KS wheel
•NRG bucket seat
•34” LG VA monitor that’s on a swivel mount

I was originally going to get the Track Racer TR80S, but my local Microcenter had the GT1 EVO in stock so I decided to grab that instead. Super happy with it so far. It’s super sturdy, but slim enough to slide against the wall next to my desk.

Got the R12 bundle at Microcenter as well and I plan to upgrade the pedals first. Was looking at the Simsonn Plus X’s but if you guys have any recommendations let me know.

I mostly play AMS2 for now, but plan on doing some online racing once I get better. Excited to be a part of the hobby!

Question I need good quality glove recommendations as a gift.

I come in peace.

I know nothing about sim racing, I had to sneak onto my throwaway account to give my bf zero hints. I want to give him a good pair of gloves to replace the old tattered ones he's been using for years now (this is something he's expressed ever since we got together, so it's not just my speculation haha). Like as a Christmas gift. I just have no idea where to start, so any advice from y'all veterans would be super appreciated.

Thanks in advance y'all :)

Question Is the SimXPro XT120 worth it, or are there better options in Europe?

Hey everyone!
I’m looking at getting the SimXPro XT120 along with their single integrated monitor stand (totaling around €680) with free shipping

At this price point are there better value-for-money?

Would love to hear your thoughts before pulling the trigger! Thanks!

Question I need some advice if that's okay.

I'm curious on other people's thoughts. I have a higher end system for the serious games like AC and LMU.

My question is put to the community without consideration of budget. Sometimes I just want a fun game like Forza Horizon and my system does not have an easy workaround to get the force feedback working properly in Forza Horizon 6 for instance. So I usually end up playing with a controller.

If budget was not problem, would any of you give consideration to a secondary system just to play this game when you just want to drive around a city for fun. And if so, which system would you get and why?

The other truth to having a secondary system is I've had friends come over and not respect my toy and so having a secondary system would also be a way to protect the real one from the thugs lol.

Discussion Idea for an interesting league

For a while now I've had an idea for a sim racing league in which there are bi-weekly races that take place across a number of different racing games. It would be called the RMSDL (randomized multiclass sim driver's league). Each race would be randomly decided a week in advance by a number of wheels selecting what game, track, and car or class if applicable. there would be an established point system, in which you gain points as long as you partake and finish to incentivize people to not miss races. if you can't make a race that's ok, you'd simply miss out on points for that weekend. the requirements to join are any sim racing rig and as of right now the following games: Assetto Corsa Competizione, F1 25, Gran Turismo, Forza Horizon 6, and Dirt 5. These are up for debate but I'd like for it to cover a wide range of classes and driving styles. If this gets any traction whatsoever I'll start a discord and invite anyone interested who messages me. Haven't decided on the maximum capacity yet but I'm planning on it just matching the lowest capacity of the included games. Id also like to make it clear that im not trying to promote an existing league or profit off of this subreddit in any way, just wondering if this is something the community would be interested in.

News Free iRacing Engineer - Valor (Not an Ai engineer)

Hey Sim Racers, I will be doing Valor for free! I want to let you guys know how Valor works. This isn’t a free tiered option where you get a gutted engineer. You get the full race weekend engineer. This isnt an ai app either. Everything you get for free is deterministic not ai.

In Practice, we have a root cause engine & a target turn model. Every lap valor determines one target turn that is the best loss / most gainable turn and will coach that target turn. Valor monitors all turns so through ptt you can ask about any turn and hear what your root cause problem is. Root cause is important because we don’t just want to tell you where the turn was slow but where the turn was actually damaged first. If the exit is slow because of the braking zone valor knows and coaches that. Early Entry, late entry, apex, early exit, and late exit are all zoned areas we have for every turn. This is done by having track geometry & what we call a blueprint. Every track gets scanned through Valor so we have the complete track geometry.

In qualifying, Valor is precise. Valor drops the coaching unless asked and focuses on your lap timing. Keeping you updated at the right times. I’ve tried to make sure like an engineer you hear what’s needed not just a bunch of speech.

In the race, Valor is a complete strategist & spotter. Handling spotting and on the fly calls fast. We use a local voice generation so spotting and calls are super fast. You also get race craft & strategy. Race craft is designed to let you know what’s important right now and what to do about it. We designed triggers so valor knows whether the car in front or behind is the problem and how to handle it. Strategy focuses on the long game. There are settings to control how often this runs but this is designed to let you know whether you should be attacking, defending, or holding positions. Again this is deterministic. Pit strategy is really cool and the model we are making for it is growing. Ofcourse there is the simple fuel strategy but pit strategy actually calculates tire performance loss. Over a long stint we filter out traffic, fuel, and inconsistent laps then we look at your inputs and see if the same inputs are happening within a range and if we are seeing a performance loss & scrub we can build a confidence on tire performance degrading. I’m still fully developing the pit stop model so we can accurately determine when an undercut is possible. Right now it’s a confidence level. We have had tests ran in Fuji 24 hour race and some 10 hour races that have helped form this model. As we grow our model grows. I’d love community input on this specifically.

Valor pays attention to the race and builds a full memory and story of it by journaling every moment. This allows ptt to work really well.

Valor builds an opponent model as well. Valor keeps track of every car on track. We don’t get all of their inputs but we do get steering and position so we know exactly how fast every car is through every turn because of our scanned track geometry. This allows you to ask how fast you are compared to other drivers on the field and possible meet ups. We achieve normal language ptt by giving Valor a big library of understanding. At times you may have to say things more accurately but all commands are in the settings so you can learn them. As of right now ptt is in English. The opponent model is used for better race craft advice.

This brings me to the film room. When you are done with a session and are sitting in the iRacing replay valor knows. We have a film room screen that knows exactly what second you are on. Say “Jump to lap 4” and the iRacing replay goes to lap 4. Say “show me turn 3” it jumps to that turn because of our scanned track geometry. Show me my worst turn is an option too. Many more. Ask about any moment. “What did I do wrong here?” It freezes the moment and does a comparison of that moment to tell you where you differed from your blueprint. Coaching eyes will watch along with you. By using all of the journaled moments valor will beep when the replay is on a moment that matters. Click dive deeper and hear why that moment mattered. Again not ai eyes this is a deterministic data driven eyeball lol.

Combine all of this and you have a full weekend race engineer. For free!

A Blueprint is more than just a reference. Valor monitors every input you make and records your trace and creates a blueprint that can be plugged back into valor. This will be what is used as the coaching reference. This is how valor knows if you were slow or not. Every Track / Car combo will come with one good blueprint that will have a top split worthy lap time. Every blueprint is a real lap run by a real person. Eventually we will build up our community blueprints and have more to chose from on the website. You may export and share your blueprint so teams and friends can use your blueprint! All overlays will run against your blueprint so it’s nice to see exactly where your teammate is braking and how they trail through the overlay and try to match it. This is great for teams and coaches.
We are in beta because of this mainly. I have to scan every track manually to ensure accuracy so valors library is growing fast but we do not have blueprints for every track yet. On the website you can request a track & car combo and I will scan that one next. Every car gets its own scan. We do not want you using references for formula when you’re driving gt!

We have a team hub packages at $1 a seat to cover cloud costs. This gives teams a workspace that allows you to easily share blueprints and report comparisons. The whole workspace is built for teams. Gamified things like turn war to see which teammate is faster on each turn. Easily use eachothers recent laps. Every Track & Car combo gets its own saved dashboard so when a track comes back around you can pick up where your team last left off. Plug in eachother blueprints so you can find the perfect lap based on your race conditions.

We have overlays! 11 different ones. The normal ones and some new ones. Brake coach is designed to show you brake markers and brake trailing references. Aura gives you radar & traces including a steering trace that’s compass style so you can turn off the line if placed correctly. Aura is designed to be an all in one overlay to hopefully clear the screen. You can place and resize them how you like. Just drag and drop. You do have to be windowed.

All of this in one command center ui that can live off the screen.

Now let’s talk about ai! I know we are torn on this because i am. We offer an ai layer for valor. It can be turned off or on & isn’t needed. It costs me so I unfortunately have to share that cost with you guys. I built valor so we don’t need the heaviest ai model and so we don’t mindlessly spend on ai. If you are using ai I can ensure you I I am doing everything i can to keep that cost cheap while keeping it a premium layer and not hurting the reasoning. I believe I hit a cost that will beat out even letting you guys sign into your personal accounts through o auth. I did an ai “bake off” where I plugged in every model even astra and saw how it performed inside valors environment. With the right architecture and doctrine the cheapest model won. It had the best price and actually gave better responses than astra. Since valor handles the heavy lifting Ai doesn’t need a strong model. This will be interesting to see where this ends up as Ai develops. We do not let ai run the ship. We feed all the information valor already determines and let ai reason over it. After using it I personally like the boost in race craft and strategy. You get a deeper level. Valor already has memory because of the journaling but the ai uses it better. It understands your growth. It grows with you and feels like a true partner. We don’t let it hallucinate. Valor provides the fact and ai gets to reason. Pit strategy seems to work well with ai. It’s able to reason over undercuts and overtcuts better. AI ptt is amazing. Ask it anything and compound questions. Ask ai to watch an opponent and let you know when they are close. ai ptt is very powerful. Now as for security we take ai very seriously. We of course have gaurd rails to ensure valor stays your engineer and directs conversation to racing. But we don’t stop there. We don’t give ai power in valor. Ai in Valor is allowed to reason. We don’t give it a coding sandbox. We don’t give it the sandboxes needed to be powerful. Valor gets the response and ensure it’s accurate and then runs it through our local voice system. That way ai doesn’t reason over an opponent that doesn’t matter. If the bad reasoning happens valor sees it and kills it. We log every time ai is called to ensure it’s behaving.
You can purchase prepaid tokens and see your usage if you want to use ai. Not having ai does not hurt Valors main engineer.
We have ai settings so you can control exactly what lanes Ai stays in. You can make him talk a lot or make him talk very little about strategy.

All in all, Valor is a tool all sim racers deserve at the true cost it should be. Give Valor a try and let me know how we can grow together. I will attach a video that shows valor in use. I’m not strong in content and don’t have a content team so give me some slack on those! Lol. You can see on the YouTube some more videos and some old live streams that show some older versions of valor. If interested I can stream some live demos and answer questions. We are a very small passionate team. I sim race everyday and Valor is being built by the Sim Racer and for the sim racer. You can find full research and our studies in articles on the website. From the research what we are seeing is Valor has the correct philosophy. Check out our article on a driver who ran valor through the Fuji 24 hour race where he ended up being one of the most consistent drivers of the race. After taking a look at the root cause problems valor found and identified when the telemetry changed in the direction of the advice given the lap time got better. So whether it was because the driver listened or just naturally changed his driving behavior valor knew what input changes would lead to faster times. It’s shown well through many studies now. By focusing on root cause coaching Valor actually tells you where you can fix turns accurately. And our math is accurate in determining what is truly the root cause.
Oval drivers valor works for oval too! He changes his focus from turn coaching to more of a consistency battle. This model I would like some more conversations with passionate oval drivers to ensure Valor is a strong oval engineer as well.

Thank you guys for reading! I felt this would convey Valor better than making another ai image or showing another radio call where you get no context! Have a great day & go win a race!

News GP4 Remastered - widescreen and Mac version! Development blog 1

Post image

Hello all, I am working on a free, open source port of Grand Prix 4 to Godot engine.

This is a different project to my GP2 Revival mod - and will be released soon after!

What's working so far:

- Runs in 4K on a humble Macbook (M1 Pro) at nearly 100fps! The original code had an interesting limitation, a 30fps cap to the physics engine. That's now been removed.
- The entire scene is rendered in Godot engine (well known open source game engine) replacing the dated old 2002 3D renderer in its entirety.
- Screen space reflections for cars and track surface in wet weather
- Godot engine is cross-platform thanks to Forward+ supporting NVidia RTX cards - DLSS 5 will look amazing in this as it'll work on top of a modern engine not the old 2002 PC version.
- AMD cards and Apple Silicon GPUs fully working
- Working on the Windows port now, will release it when the Mac version is done
- Every car and track runs flawlessly with no weirdness, no bugs

AND... now the real work starts... VR support, force feedback with my Moza and Fanatec rigs, basically sky is the limit. I'll post the first footage this evening so keep a watch on https://www.youtube.com/@GP2Revival

What would you like to see?

Question PXN V10 Ultra not showing up as connected, PXN software painfully slow

I have my PXN V10 Ultra wheel plugged into a USB2 repeater plugged into my computer. I proved the repeater works by plugging in a flash drive and that worked.

When plugged into the repeater, the wheel lights up and stays powered on.

When plugging / unplugging the wheel, Windows Device Manager's device list refreshes and I see the list of Human Interface Devices lengthen and shorten.

However, PXN SimRacing hub doesn't show the wheel as connected, and the program itself seems to be running painfully slow. I timed it, it takes 2 whole seconds for clicking a menu button to change what's on screen, and about the same amount of time for dragging the window to do anything.

What's going on?

edit: connecting my wheel directly to pc works so the repeater just isnt strong enough for wheel

idk what to do about this

Question Can you recommend a good pedal set to replace my Fanatec CSL LC?

I currently have a set of Fanatec CSL Load Cell pedals, but I’m looking to upgrade; the brake feels too rigid and lacks travel—I’m after something that feels more realistic. My budget is limited, and I’d like a set of pedals that can be upgraded later on—specifically, the ability to add haptic motors. I’ve looked at the SimNet SP Pro and Evo, as well as the Simsonn Plus X, and I’ve heard good things about them, but I’m not sure which ones to choose. I’d appreciate a recommendation. I have $600 available, though I’d prefer to spend around $300—that said, if it’s truly worth it, I could stretch to the full $600 for a pedal set.

Question Anyone has their seat next to the table. With your monitor on an arm and swing it out towards your setup when racing? Can you share your experience with it?

I was thinking about doing it like that with my setup. Basically putting the next level GT seat next to the side of my table. Facing towards the table on which I have my pc and my main monitor. I was thinking about having that main monitor on an arm and just swinging it out towards the seat when racing. But I'm not sure if arms like that even exist haha.

Anyone tried doing this or is currently using this? If so then any advice on this or pics maybe are highly appreciated. Thank you!

Question Sim build. My partner is concerned with the foot print after buying a rig. Looking for monitor/ VR advice.

Hello, Ive managed to pick up a trak racer Tr80s with an integrated triple monitor mount from market place, with the intention of going triple 27's.

Assembled the rig and monitor stand and with no monitors attatched my partner isn't overly happy with the span of the montor mount.

I have been hot lapping with a controller on a 34in ultrawide for a couple of weeks mainly to learn track layouts. I have set the 34in on the rig and have the correct FOV but would like more immersion. I have looked into a 49in ultrawide and from what I can see it'll fill my peripheral vision but still lacking side windows.

Im now leaning towards the big screen beyond 2, almost the same price as the G9 but concerned about long term use and performance. I only plan on playing LMU, potentially iracing in the future. My partner also is fully for this route. I have a 13600k and 9070xt on ddr4. I will be upgrading to a 9800x3d after christmas.

Any guidance or advice. Open to any suggestions.

Question SHH NEWT to HUBB upgrade worth it?

Has anyone upgraded from the older SHH NEWT shifter to the new HUBB model? Just wondering if it's worth it or not. I'm pretty happy with the h-pattern, but would like better feel for sequential. The NEWT has a lot of play in sequential mode and the tension is different for upshifting and downshifting.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share what I have been working on, and catching the AI Slipping up in an unscripted event. 10

So proud of the logic of all the cars dynamically adjusting to the event.

Still some work to do on the wakes, but the dynamic weather is doing its job. I recreated Monza in the editor in game, exact 5.9km somehow got it right. Won't be included in the game due to licensing, but free to remake any tracks of your choosing with the in game editor, can change the terrain height to recreate the right elevation.

Oh and for the Sim enthusiasts. we now have wheel and pedal support with force feedback.
