I want to start a shrimp tank but I have no idea where to begin
I have no experience with keeping shrimp or any fish for that matter but I am looking for a new hobby and shrimp keeping has intrigued me. Is there a step by step how to because I have no clue on where to begin. I've looked at the side bar but still I have no idea.

Mod Poll: Should We Ban Ai Use Altogether On This Sub.
It seems a lot of people, possibly the majority, want to see an absolute ban of Ai on this sub, whether in post or comment. So, we wanted to let the community decide. Thanks for your input! - Shrimptank Mod Team

Help: Shrimp ID & Shrimp Sexing Have I been scammed
Long and short of it, I went back and forth with an aquarium owner to get some shrimp with the goal of breeding and selling them back to him. We agreed on blue bolts and I waited weeks for them to get in. Before I was allowed to pick them up I was told he let his employee buy all but 9 of them.
He assured me they weren’t picked over and very high quality. I bought the remaining ones and have had them for 3 weeks with no color change.
Additionally I believe I was sold only one female, she’s been berried for two weeks now. No others have berried, and when she molted the other 8 went crazy.
Have I been scammed? Are these high quality blue bolts? What are the odds that I got 8 males? Any recommendations?

Beginner Why is my shrimp fat?
For context, I had a near empty fish tank while I was on a roadtrip and my friend who was looking after the house spontaneously got me a cherry shrimp. I was not prepared and I still don’t have all the resources I think a shrimp owner might need, but I have no idea whether Petco or wherever my friend picked her up from takes returns on live creatures and I don’t know anyone I could give her to, so I ended up keeping her. I don’t know if this was the right thing to do, but we’re here now.
She is the only creature in this tank other than a Nerite snail who was there before she arrived and she’s been really happy and energetic for the past two or so months (my friend got her for me in the tail end of July). About a week ago she molted and has been acting normal since then until yesterday in which I noticed she wasn’t moving around as much. She’s had days before where she lazes around more and has been perfectly fine, so I didn’t think anything of it. Today, I noticed her molt (which had been left by the filters where it had been shed) was gone and she was really bloated and moving around exclusively on the bottom of the tank.
There is no male shrimp for her to make eggs with, but I heard cherry shrimps can lay infertile eggs without a partner. Nothing about the tank has changed over the past week or so, so I don’t know what could be bothering her. I did see her strain to push something white out from between her tail and legs and tail, which I think is concerning but I really don’t know. She’s still moving around and foraging, but very slowly. I know cherry shrimps don’t live long and I don’t know how old she is. Can anyone help me figure out what is happening?

Help: Emergency How do I quarantine my new shrimp? Help!
My shrimp are arriving tomorrow, but I bought shrimp from two different sellers and now I'm facing the consequences.
Currently I have the skittles I introduced incorrectly, one had clado, which I have removed and put in the hospital tank.
Herein lies my dilemma. Shrimp are dying in my main community tank, I had a clado infested shrimp in the tank for about 15 minutes. Parameters are 0.5/0/0 and GH 7 and KH 3. My community tank is 6 or 7 months old I don't remember exactly. Spotted Blue Eyed Rainbowfish and sparkling gourami. My neos, a Japanese trapdoor snail and a mystery snail.
I have added hydrogen peroxide twice in the two days I've had the shrimp. I dosed based on the clado treatment link on the pinned article. I treat their water with prime and equilibrium dosed according to the instructions.
I have also dosed the hospital tank with hydrogen peroxide according to those instructions. I have also done salt dips according to instructions I found on here. Doing daily water changes. (Do want to ask how I sanitize my acrylic hospital tank.)
My "whalefall" tank. 2 months old, had it fully cycled then had a recent reading of 0.25/0/5 GH 8 KH 3, added prime and stability every day since (I'm disabled some days I just don't have the energy to test each tank individually). Currently has 10 blue dreams. Ordered 10 more meant to arrive tomorrow, but I don't have an open tank to quarantine them in. I'm also completely wiped of my filter and heater supply, and I don't have the funds to go buy more right now.
What do I do?
tldr: don't have an open tank to quarantine shrimp in, or enough filters/heaters. What should I do/how can I fix this?
Edit: currently doing a 25% water change on the community tank. Should I do more? I'll also do a water change for the shrimp tank

Discussion What the hell did I just witness
I was watching my tank and I saw an Amano chilling on the log in the back and then a crystal red ran up on his ass in a deranged fashion, grappled on to him and took him down behind the log......
Laughed my ass off for a bit but I am legit curious as to what I saw! There's at least 12 other crystal reds in the tank, a fair mix of males and females none of which were acting particularly shrorny(shrimp horny), and he grappled onto my unsuspecting male amano(also not acting shrorny to my female amano)

Discussion Pigments and Genetics
I'm a curious genetics-nerd but don't breed a bunch of shrimp colors, lol. So I look at the charts, which makes little sense, and now I'm very curious about how y'all select your breeders 😂

So in humans (mammals) we have Melanin, pheomelanin (yellow/red) and eumelanin (black/dark brown) which gives us all the color variations we have in skin and hair tones. These melanins exists in different intensity in each person and more in different spots than others. For example barely any eumelanin but a little pheomelanin will give you a yellow labrador, but a lot of pheomelanin will give you a black lab (and eumelanin generally covers up pheomelanins). All genetic color variations are actually variations of these two color concentrations and in different spots.
Shrimp (and other sea creatures) have Chromatophore instead of melanin. There's six(!) different chromatophores. Yellow, Red, White, Black/Brown, Blue and Iridescent/Reflective. The natural state of their scales is completely see-through, and so a complete lack of all of them gives you a transparent/wild shrimp.
These pigments make up every single one of every shrimp color. The simplest version would be a lack of everything but a little red pigment would give you a "jelly" red (or orange?). But most will probably have a few of everything, and what comes through is what is dominant or most of. A deep red shrimp probably have a bit of blue AND yellow in there along with red to get a rich color. A dark blue has black/brown along with a lot of blue. I think I've only seen white in pearl shrimp though (neocaridina zhangjiajiensis) and not the davidis, the rilis look more like a lack of pigment I think.
I'd love to hear what y'all with color-breeding experience think, if you have been using something like this or if at some point youve gotten something unexpected. Even if you're just guessing what colors a certain shrimp-type has to make that color.

Help: Algae & Pests White growth on cholla wood drift wood safe to add?
I've just noticed this white growth on my cholla wood fuly coats the inside too, I looked it up and think it might be the harmless one just eating the celluouse off the wood and should vanish in a few weeks/months but just wanted to check this isn't a boil situation! I was also going to add some new drift wood but wondering if I should hold off now? Got shrimps and guppies in the tank!

Beginner Feeling very disheartened
Hello all this is my first time having shrimp, but I have had other small fish tanks and snail tanks before. This is my first experience with a planted tank however, as well as first time using sand with bio substrate. I did a two month cycle with just plants before adding any critters, nitrite, nitrate, chlorine, ammonia, and copper were all zero. GH of 250, TA of 120, and pH of 7.6. About a month ago I added two small nerites, 5 nano fish, and 20 blue jellies. The first week went great, but then I started having deaths. Did small water changes more frequently, raked the sand, retested the parameters, nothing had changed. Temperature has been stable around 76F. Seems to have stabilized mostly, but still experiencing intermittent shrimp deaths. I probably only have 5 left of the original 20. Does anyone have some advice? Considering not getting anymore shrimp even though I had really wanted them.

Help: Emergency What could the reason be? What's that white line?
Dead shrimp. I have no substrate in this new tank. Just white sand, hornwort,a wood,a stone that's it. Every other shrimp is fine even the fries
