Adopt these pets at San Francisco Animal Care & Control and give them the homes they deserve!
PANDA (cat): Don't you love a lap cat with a major purr engine? Panda is a super sweet cuddle bug! She loves being near her people, leaning in close, climbing onto laps, and soaking up all the love you can offer. Panda came from a home with far too many cats and is now enjoying lots of attention and affection. Be the lucky one who'll bring Panda home! Panda A598887, 1 year old.

CATALINA (dog): You won't have to travel 27 miles across the sea to meet this lovely dog...she's right here in SF! This mystical dog may be a splash of Vizsla, a splash of Great Dane, and a splash of island princess. This resilient pup arrived underweight and has gained over twenty pounds thanks to their amazing veterinary team. She's filling out fast; she's a survivor, lovebug, and a best friend!

SF Gentrification fueling new office leases

Fresh round of gentrification is adding to new office leases and squeezing affordability.

Gentrification happens when higher income residents move in, driving up property values, shifting local culture, and often displacing existing tenants.

Everyday I drive through SF, there is a special calm among the craziness of tech which makes this city so special, and I can't help but listen to kanegi on repeat. Matches the vibe so well.

R&B and Ribs - set time for T-Pain? 10/17 at GG Park

For anyone going or familiar with how timing at these events run…

Do you know what time T-Pain and Ari Lennox will perform this Sat 10/17 at R&B and Ribs at GG Park?

If not, anyone knows when the event is expected to end? Maybe I can work backwards from there 🤷🏻‍♀️😅

I know it starts at 1 PM and there are at least 3 openers, but not sure how long each set will be.

I have another important event beforehand, so just trying to figure out when to arrive without missing T-Pain. Catching Ari too would be a bonus!

Thank youuu!!!! 🙏🏼

Pic / Video House of Air closing after 16 years in the Presidio

"After an incredible 16 year run, House of Air will close its doors on February 15th. 🛩️

For years, House of Air at Crissy Field has been a place where gravity was optional. You came for birthdays, first flips, dodgeball rivalries, field trips, date nights and Tuesday afternoons that turned into something unforgettable. You filled this building with noise, sweat, and a whole lot of joy.

We’re not ending with a goodbye. We’re ending with a send off. Between now and February 15th, come jump with us one more time (or 10). Bring the friends who learned t backflip here, bring the kids that aren’t kids anymore.

Thank you for every bounce, it’s been the ride of a lifetime. 💙"

Bar Food

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a place with bar food! Originally from Western PA, where we're really good at drinking and eating greasy food. I've been hoping to find a place around town to get a cold draft beer and some bar food. I'm not looking for truffle fries and fancy eats, give me fried pickles or mozzarella sticks.

Update: I'm in the Richmond but will go anywhere 🤣

Searchable map of all public transit in SF

https://sfbapt.com/map

Quick tips:

  • tap a stop or route to see details and highlight the stop/route
  • collapse/expand info box by tapping |hide| (top left)
  • quickly toggle all the agencies on/off using button (top right)
  • search and filter agencies that show up in checkbox list (top right)
  • search and filter actual routes and stops that show up on map (bottom right)
  • link back to homepage in case you can't figure something out or want more tips (bottom right)

To play with the map search and filter, try this:

  • zoom out all the way
  • select the Show Stops option (top right)
  • type -120 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -121 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -122 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -123 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)

Another interesting thing is you can link to specific spots by copying the url directly:

There are smaller agencies in the area that are completely free (no fare) and not as well known like Presidio Go, Golden Gate Park Shuttle, Mission Bay Shuttle, South City Shuttle, commute.org shuttles, MVgo, Mountain View Community Shuttle, San Leandro LINKS, Emery Express, and Emery Go Round. If you're traveling to those areas, these agencies could help fill in some transit gaps. I also made a post a couple months ago with very specific info about all the transit agencies and options in SF and most of the info is still relevant, so take a look there too.

Share this with your friends and people who don't use transit so they know just how many options we actually have, and let me know if anything doesn't work (corp network/vpn/firewalls might not work) or you have any questions/requests!

Crime Have anyone else's allergies been crazy the past week?

I've been dying everyday-- coughing, sneezing, congestion, lethargy. I'm new to the area-- are there any plants that start to germinate during this time?

ETA: I had COVID or a flu like 2 weeks ago and it was AWFUL. Holy hell. Get your vaccines!

This is also why I suspect allergies, since I was sick, got better, then had a new set of symptoms appear. A lot more sneezing and stuffy/itchy nose than I usually get when sick

This guy was flying above my porch today with no operator in sight. Felt so creepy. Has anyone else dealt with this? It seems like there’s really no regulation against this. Ick!

Public Transit is a service and not meant to be self sufficient

1.4k Upvotes

I’m tired of people saying how BART isn’t self sufficient and therefore deserves to go under but you guys need to realize that not everything is meant to make money. BART is the equivalent of public schools or hospitals, it’s there to provide a service. This obsession with everything needing to make money is ridiculous, we’re losing the plot.

Unit sizes will vary, including 105 studios, 209 one-bedrooms, 84 two-bedrooms, and 45 three-bedrooms. The project will provide parking for 108 cars and 180 bicycles.”

From a Goodyear tire store, to a BevMo (with historical storefront?) to a 36 story building with housing.

Pic / Video I tracked prices across 1000s of SF apartments every day for a year. For the first time, price cuts are outnumbering increases 2:1

Post image
202 Upvotes

When I was apartment hunting, I noticed the asking rent for a lot of apartments changed almost every day (especially at big buildings).

So last year I started tracking it: every day I recorded the price of every available apartment at a bunch of SF buildings. The result:

  • 64% of apartments changed price by $25+ while they were listed. For apartments that changed, the difference between the high/low price was ~$250/month (or $3,000/year, depending on which day you sign!)
  • Asking rents are up 25% since November, but flat since July. In the last month, price cuts outnumbered increases about 2:1, which is the widest gap I’ve seen all year. I was surprised by this!

The difference between renting on a “down” day vs. an “up” day can be huge (like, $1000s a year). So I put together a (free) tool to help everyone access this data! If this helps a few people save money on rent, that’d be awesome :)

transparentrent.com

Would love to hear any feedback or ideas for what else to pull out of the data. Will try and add other Bay Area cities soon!

TLDR; Google flights for SF rent

Pic / Video SF Population over time

Post image
10 Upvotes

Can someone explain the argument for a supply side housing shortage if population is lower now than in 2018-2020 and relatively stable at +/- 800K residents over the last 50 years? Household size seems to be a factor but I am curious what I might be missing. Short-term rentals might have an impact but I was under the impression there were strict regulations in the city that require owner to live in the unit a specific number of days a year, which might mitigate the impact.

SFUSD new attendance area maps - thoughts?

I read that SFUSD, as part of establishing a neighborhood school enrollment policy, will be redrawing the attendance area maps to reflect current and projected student population. Does anyone have any insight into how that practice works? I ask because the current attendance area maps confuse me. For example, my AA school is a short walk from my house - yay! - but it is at the northern edge of its attendance area, not, like, in the middle of it. So there are families a couple blocks from it zoned elsewhere, and families much farther away zoned to it. How does this all work, do you know?
