(repost because the mods have been ignoring my mail/requests!)
For $150, sticker price, you honestly can't go that wrong with it.
It's 4wd, very durable, and extremely versatile too! The 12mm hexes let you mix and match wheels and tires, even 1/10 racing buggy wheels!! (If you don't mind tipping over all the time)
The truck does have a few iffy points though, stickers come unapplied and YOU must apply them. But wait, make sure to take off the clear film on the body before then! But parts of the roof skids and plastic details on the body, will make it difficult to take it all off in one go.
Besides that, the rear end does sit a little low. And it's a little soft too. The fronts actually might have more travel than the rears. And the diffs are super loose from the factory, really too loose to have fun and drift it on pavement. And mine had misaligned toe out of the box I had to adjust with the steering tie rods. (The truck would snap oversteer in one direction annoyingly)
Mine also has some pretty bad gear noise, like makes you worry you're making metal confetti noise. And the stock tires were almost unusably hard of a compound. Especially on loose dirt, the car was basically uncontrollable.
Also I hate the name "Blackzon" and the overall looks of the body are pretty mid for my tastes. If they went with normal HPI branding, I would've bought it sooner! Because the current branding makes it look like another chinesium Amazon car. But that's all nickel and dime really. But it did make me hesitate to purchase, until I found out Blackzon is HPI.
The closest competitor to this would be other 1/16 SC trucks, like the Mojave Grom. Which is actually smaller than the Vyper. But to get the brushless Mojave Grom, it's considerably more than the Blackzon Vyper Turbo.
I forgot to mention, this Blackzon Vyper comes 3s compatible right out of the box, and uses a non-proprietary deans connector. Unlike the spektrum connectors the Groms have.
Overall, if you sink $30 worth of Proline Mirages or 1/16 (MERV) slash wheels/tires. This thing is a blast! And I honestly couldn't recommend it more if you were in the market for a mini right now.
