Removed KBCO from Radio Presets

Curious how KBCO listeners feel about iHeart getting rid of Bret Saunders back in June to make more money. I haven’t listened to the station since. Yesterday I removed them from the radio presets in my car.

I have over 25 years of StudioC CDs. Trying to decide if we’ll get another this year.

What do you all think?

I tested a radio that combines Internet Radio, DAB+, FM, CD and Spotify Connect

I recently tested the TechniSat DIGITRADIO 380 CD IR, a stereo radio that combines quite a lot of different audio sources in one device.

It supports:

  • Internet radio
  • DAB+ and FM/RDS
  • CD and MP3 playback
  • Spotify Connect
  • Bluetooth
  • USB audio playback
  • Podcasts
  • AUX input
  • Wi-Fi on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz

One of the things I found interesting is the Internet Radio function. The radio can access stations from around the world, while DAB+ and FM provide the traditional broadcast options. It also has separate presets for Internet radio, DAB+ and FM.

I tested the initial setup and Wi-Fi connection, Internet radio and podcasts, CD and USB playback, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, the equalizer and, finally, the sound quality.

I recorded the complete hands-on review here:

https://youtu.be/LKE1tpKfEB0

I'm curious what you think about this type of all-in-one radio.

Do you still use FM/DAB+ and CD, or have Internet Radio and Spotify largely replaced traditional radio and physical media for you?

Best 2010s broadcast station?

I’m using an old device to play iheartradio in safari and it’s only plays on a certain URL basically radiostationnumbers.iheart.com, which is like only the broadcast stations. So does anyone have any 2010s radio stations they like that also have an iheart website hopefully in that format! Thanks in advance!

PDs and OMs: Need Advice on Coaching a Veteran Afternoon Jock Who's Resistant to Change

I'm looking for some advice from fellow Program Directors, Operations Managers, and experienced radio personalities.

I have an afternoon jock who's been in our market for 12 years and started his radio career back in the late '80s. He's got decades of experience, knows the market, and has been doing this for a long time.

Here's my challenge: His on-air delivery needs work, and he's extremely resistant to changing his content or approach.

His afternoon breaks range anywhere from 90 seconds to 4–5 minutes. Some of them have a purpose, but others tend to ramble without much direction or payoff. I've encouraged him to tighten up his breaks, focus on stronger content, and make every time he opens the mic count.

Recently, he told me he'd like to develop a new style of radio show built around actively engaging listeners. I actually love that idea! But my question is: How do we measure whether listeners are actually engaged, rather than just assuming they are?

We're in an era where listeners have endless entertainment options, and I believe every break needs to give them a reason to keep listening.

I've also been trying to get him to think beyond traditional radio. For example, I suggested moving one of his regular on-air features to Facebook as a digital-first segment. To his credit, he did it! Unfortunately, instead of using that opportunity to tighten up his on-air content, he simply filled the available time with more unfocused talk.

I'm not trying to turn him into someone he's not. I respect his experience and want him to succeed. But I also believe that just because something worked 20 or 30 years ago doesn't necessarily mean it's effective today.

So here's where I could use some advice:

  • How do you coach a veteran personality who's reluctant to change?
  • What benchmarks or metrics do you use to measure listener engagement, especially in a smaller market?
  • How do you help a personality recognize when a break is too long or isn't delivering value?
  • Have you successfully helped a longtime jock modernize their show without stripping away their personality?
  • At what point does coaching become a conversation about accountability?

I want to help him build a better afternoon show, not just tell him to talk less. I'm looking for practical ways to get him invested in improving the product.

Would love to hear what's worked (or hasn't worked) at your stations.

Westwood One podcast feed

I listen to this podcast every week on the Westwood One website or on WWO affiliates. I'd like to find an RSS feed so it will automatically download in Apple Podcasts (or a similar app), but there doesn't seem to be such a feed. All I can find is the general Westwood One RSS feed that only has clips from old games.

Could anyone help me find the NFL Preview feed?

Thanks.

New Nautel VX2 - E-mail question

So we finally got our new transmitter, the Nautel VX2 (I have other posts in this sub about the search for a new transmitter). I am having a problem setting up notifications. I created an e-mail account for the transmitter, configured the appropriate settings, but when I go to send a test message, I get an error that I need to check the recipient address.

I do know the authentication settings are correct - if I make a change (to something invalid), I get an error about the credentials. I am using an external e-mail (smtp2go) to send, and am not able to see logs on that end - but I do see the traffic successfully leaving the network to the mail server, and other systems using the smtp2go servers are working. I even changed the transmitter to use one of those accounts - and get the same error to check the recipient address.

I have not been able to find anything about this through searching - and I have not reached out to Nautel yet, I figured I would check the brain trust here first.

Sounds like radio interference or something. Didn’t hear them in person, came back and watched the video and heard them. I’ve asked everyone on reddit 😭

My car randomly picked this on FM3 93.8 it' Mandarin Chinese, my car's antenna is beyond simple. I need some explanation, happened to me before but my assumption was somehow mistakenly open a reel or something and I'm hearing it via Bluetooth....This ain't the case here.
