Hello everyone,

new to shortwave listening. My primary goal is to try listening to international radio stations broadcast via shortwave (but also, potentially, other waves as well, so that the learning process can continue). After doing some research, I purchased the following two products, aiming to put together a basic, budget-friendly setup.

- Receiver: AMNVOLT V4 SI4732

- Antenna: MLA-30+

Briefly after purchase, I found out that some online sources suggest that the receiver and the antenna might not be compatible. Many others, in contrast, claim they are. As a beginner, I don’t yet have the expertise to evaluate these technical conflicting opinions; could someone with more experience help me out (and perhaps offer some advice on how to get this setup working)?

Just found out this cool fact, I passed my driving license and she borrowed me her car for this week and while skimming through the modes of the radio to find Bluetooth, I saw that it has Long Wave. I listened to two guys who are Moroccan/Algerians that and they maybe live in France?

They talked in a mix of Arabic (maybe Berber or whatever the dialect is called) and French. I picked that up because they called each other „khoya“ and talked about something including the word „Algerie“, so Algeria. Pretty cool stuff. It’s a Renault twingo from 2010ish I believe

I keep hearing this repeated noise on 9.980mHz can somebody identify?

I tuned into their 6180 khz frequency, and there was no English at the 0150 UTC time. I know they sometimes pre-empt it for sports events, but there wasn't a game playing at the time.

I just bought the pl330 and ive had success in picking up some interesting signals. I am in northern ca and have heard stuff from chula vista (southern ca), radio new zealand, and what sounds like chinese stations. I like the size of the radio and overall its been decent but there are a couple small things that I find myself nitpicking such as the tuning knob and not being able to coarse tune stations also that when you hold down the VF/VM button to scan, the volume knob doesnt work to name a couple. I also dont know how I feel about having to use an audio jack for external antenna, I kindof wish it was like bnc or something. Anyway, with taxes I paid 94 bucks for this radio. I am debating about whether or not I want to keep it or return it and pay alittle extra for something that also has air band and WX. Thoughts?

Is the Ext AM Antenna jack also for an external Airband antenna? I have tried both my Discone and long-wire antenna connection with zero results. Seems the ONLY antenna which works for Airband in this radio is the built-in whip! Is that by design and if so...why?!
