Is it worth updating to y2jb from the web exploit jailbreak?
I've seen people here talk about it but not sure if I should bother?

The new kernel exploit named "Double Free" POC was released.
(Apologies for posting here a bit late)
Comment any questions you have that are not addressed in this post so we may discuss things.
On PS4 this vulnerability affects firmwares 5.00-12.02 and was patched in 12.50.
On PS5 this vulnerability affects firmwares 1.xx-10.01.
It requires a userland entrypoint to be exploited.
A WebKit exploit is not available past 5.50 on PS5. This means your only option until a new one is found will be the Lua exploit.
Lua save game exploit: All firmwares it is not firmware dependent as long as the Lua game launches it will work.
Although it has requirements to run please read below.
Note:
The game must be able to launch.
The requirement of an account and a way to resign the save is flexible.
Sharing console backups with a user account and Lua save files should allow these 2 requirements to be skipped. But owning the Lua game is absolutely mandatory optionally in demo format acquired while the console could sign into PSN.
If you do not already have a Lua game demo on your device you cannot import one in any manner you need the disc.
Please be patient while developers work to release usable implementations of the exploit and etc.

Since it seems to be unavoidable that people will keep asking, I am making this thread the place to ask what firmware a particular brand new ps5 model will come with. That way we can avoid having multiple posts that only answer the firmware for a single model at a time.
If you want to post what firmware the ps5 you bought came with please include as much info as you can. For example, "black digital only model CFI-XXXX came with firmware 5.00". This will be more useful when/if a slim or pro version is eventually made.
Keep in mind that the information provided here won't be fact checked and is entirely crowd sourced. There is no guarantee that any reported firmware will be 100% accurate.
If you're looking for a quick reference guide, the pinned message over at r/PS5_Jailbreak/ has you covered as of November 2024.

Run Battle.net on a jailbroken PlayStation 5.
Forever Launcher (PPSA99030) runs Battle.net and World of Warcraft through Wine, using DirectX 12 on the PS5's own GPU. The tested game build is World of Warcraft Classic beta (WowB.exe). The supplied settings use 4K output with HDR and frame generation.
Note:
This Battle.net launcher is designed for World of Warcraft: Forever. It might be used to install other games, but keyboard support is in development.

Had a kernel panic while starting WebKit Autoloader v0.6.1; forced me to reinstall system firmware. Thankfully I was able to find one for firmware 13.60, but I lost all my PSN games and saves, I have to reinstall all the homebrew again, and now I can't use my disc drive anymore, which super sucks because that was the only method I had of watching physical movies.
One of my favorite ps4 games seemingly isn't archived anywhere, so that's gone too; the physical edition is $200 (not that I can even play it because of the disc drive being unactivated now), and it's not like I can connect to PSN on my firmware and redownload it again; so it's just lost forever now I guess.
I am having a pretty bad day.
UPDATE:
Forgot to mention it in the post, the game is Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen. The version archived online for the PS4 are the Chinese version with a broken incomplete ENG patch, not the official English release.
Someone (who I will keep anonymous for their privacy) was nice enough to reach out and offer to archive the Official PAL English release, so that issue has been resolved as far as I know.
I have also installed Y2JB on my system now (the kernel panic that caused this happened while I was attempting to set Y2JB up in the first place). So hopefully I don't run into this issue anymore.

That's what I'm going to tell my grandkids about 2026 and how we made PS5 opensource.
I remember the last time I felt so overwhelmed with possibilities was back on the PS2 OG days. I can't keep up with so much stuff

Honestly, I hadn’t touched my PS5 in years until I came across a jailbreak video. I had no idea how much was possible with this console, and after discovering the homebrew scene, I went down a rabbit hole looking at all the incredible projects people have been working on. 😂
Pretty much everything shown in the photos is what I have and I’m even expecting a 5TB HDD to arrive so I can expand everything even further. Needless to say, I’m pretty excited to see what more I can do with my PS5 and what more this community has to offer 😎
But beyond all the games and emulators, I really wanted to make this post to show some appreciation to the developers behind these projects.
From PSXS5 and PS5SX2 to RetroArch, Nintendo emulators, ports, and all the other amazing tools being developed, it’s honestly incredible to see what people have managed to accomplish.
I can only imagine the amount of time, knowledge, testing, and troubleshooting that goes into making these projects work. Developing software is already difficult enough, let alone getting emulators and applications running on a console they weren’t originally designed for.
A lot of this work probably goes unnoticed, and I think the people putting their time and skills into these projects deserve more recognition than they get.
Thanks to everyone who develops, maintains, updates, and shares these projects, as well as everyone who creates guides and helps others in the community. Your work makes a real difference, and in my case, it genuinely brought me back to a console I hadn’t touched in years.
I might not understand all the technical work that goes on behind the scenes, but I can certainly appreciate the results. It’s amazing seeing what passionate people can accomplish when they put their minds together.
To all the developers who might come across this post: thank you for everything you do.
I hope you know that your work is appreciated by people like me who get to enjoy the results of all your hard work.
If you enjoy these projects too, show the developers some love, give them credit, report bugs when you can, star their repositories, or donate if they have an official way to accept support.
Much respect to everyone contributing to the PS5 homebrew scene. You guys are awesome, and I’m glad I stumbled across that jailbreak video. 🙏❤️🎮

Like the title, i found a video and the guy has these similar frontends/themes for all his emulators but ProsperoEden, Porpoise etc don’t have those frontends/themes so how is he doing it in the video? Can we do it too?

I'm just curious because I only have a jailbroken ps4 and I'm told the pro is much better for 60fps and ports. I feel like there's more diminishing returns because the CPU of the 4 was very underpowered. Cheapest I ever saw a PS5 pro on slickdeals was like $550 after taxes so that might've been worth it

A new project called ps5-windows-xp reportedly allows jailbroken PS5 consoles to run Windows XP, with the developer claiming full-speed performance.
What’s even more interesting is that Windows XP reportedly appears as its own application on the PS5 home screen, rather than requiring users to boot into a separate operating system.
According to the developer, the project supports 3D games, DualSense controllers, audio, and web browsing. Some Windows games are also reportedly playable.
Imagine running an operating system from the early 2000s on modern PlayStation hardware. 😂
With all the recent developments involving Linux, native emulators, Prospero-Win, and now Windows XP, it’s becoming increasingly interesting to see what developers can achieve with a jailbroken PS5.
Huge appreciation to the developers who continue pushing the boundaries of PS5 homebrew.

Hey little chickens
I've been trying to play Battlefield 3 for several hours, but I can't launch it., I mean, it crashes right before the first mission appears, on the loading screen.
Does this happen to you too in some games?
