SPECIAL EDITION October 15th Reaction Thread (2026)

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Hello 2026-2027 cycle MD applicants! Here is your thread for October 15th hype, reactions, and discussion.

Congrats to everyone who's interviewed with MD schools and is patiently waiting for a decision! (Also congrats to those who have been accepted early decision MD or DO.)

October 15th is the first day MD schools are recommended to release acceptances to regular decision applicants, based on AMCAS traffic rules. (Note that some schools do their own thing and may have already sent out acceptances or will send initial acceptances later.)

The mod team wishes you all the best. Manifest those As!!!

Please keep all October 15th discussion and reactions in this thread. If you make an individual post about your acceptance over the next few days, we’ll probably remove it.

Also please don’t lose hope if you haven’t received any interviews or acceptances at this point in the cycle. It’s not over until it’s over, which can be over a year following the opening of AMCAS in May!

SPECIAL EDITION Secondaries Directory (2026-2027)

Welcome to the 2027 application cycle!

AMCAS, AACOMAS, and TMDSAS are all open for submission and currently transmitting to schools. If you've had a chance to submit your primary application and want to get ahead on writing secondary essays, this post is for you.

To track how far along AMCAS is with verification, check the following:

Below are some resources you can use to pre-write essays, track which schools have sent out secondaries, and monitors schools' progress through the cycle.

Admit.org:

Admit has a year-to-year database of which secondary prompts were sent by each school. This is very helpful in tracking current cycle prompts you have not received or predicting whether a school is likely to change their prompts this cycle. Admit also has individual school-specific threads.

Admit secondary essay prompts database

Admit medical school forums

Student Doctor Network (SDN):

SDN has a secondary essay prompts database, an interview feedback database, and school-specific threads. The secondary essay prompts database and school-specific threads are similar to Admit, while the interview feedback database is unique to SDN. You can use it to find information about interview formats, typical interview questions, and overall impressions from each medical school's interview day.

SDN secondary essays prompts database

SDN interview feedback database

School-specific threads:

Once secondaries are sent by schools, users post the prompts into the school-specific threads, and the prompts are edited into the first comment of the thread. If secondaries are not yet posted for the current cycle, you can refer to the prior cycle's thread, the secondary essay database, or Admit for pre-writing.

Reminder of Rule 10: Use school-specific threads for school-specific questions.

The biggest issue with Reddit is that it is not organized to track information longitudinally. Popular posts get buried after a day or two. Even if Admit or SDN are not your preferred platforms, they are set up better for the organization of school-specific information over time. We ask that you use school-specific threads (either on Admit or SDN) for school-specific questions and discussion, sorry.

Consider using CycleTrack!

Created by u/DanielRunsMSN and /u/Infamous-Sail-1, both MD/PhD students, "CycleTrack is a free tool for creating school lists, tracking application cycle actions, visualizing your cycle with graphs and contributing your de-identified data to make the application process more transparent and more accessible."

Good luck this cycle everyone!

🌞 HAPPY Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine Receives Preliminary Accreditation and Open's Nation’s Fifth HBCU Allopathic Medical School, Set to Welcome First Class in 2027

This is so exciting! For reference there are currently four other HBCU medical schools open which are Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. This is a huge win! XULA's school of medicine is also the first HBCU school of medicine operating in the gulf south as well.

"The College of Medicine will begin recruiting students in coming weeks for its inaugural class starting in 2027, advancing the vision for America's next historically Black college of medicine."

This is great news and I look forward to the success of the school. What are your thoughts?

❔ Discussion is it normal to still have complete silence by now?

like not even a single rejection??? I mean thank god but not hearing a single thing so far I’m like did my application even go through… complete silence from MD and DO schools and I know people with lower and higher stats than me that have already heard so I’m starting to panic (trying not to but I can feel a crash out coming soon). and don’t even get me started on those emails that schools send that end up being info session invites.

😢 SAD Got waitlisted today

I know it’s not the end of the world and that I have a solid chance but I’m feeling so inadequate right now. 1 waitlist and radio silence from everyone else after applying to 30+ schools… I just feel so tired. currently procrastinating on telling my parents

🗨 Interviews Relationship problems amidst As

Hey… I got the A today!!!!!!! From my two top schools.

I wanted to call my girlfriend to tell her on the phone but she kept shutting me down over text and telling me she’s studying in the library and she has a lot of work and cannot call. I told her to tell me when she’s free so that I can tell her over the phone.

She finally got the hint and realized that since it’s Oct 15 I must have found something out about med schools. But she continued to ask me to just send her a text or voice note and got increasingly frustrated when I told her that I want to wait to call until she’s free. She told me she hates waiting and that she doesn’t have the time right now.

She’s now mad at me for not just texting her. I’m lost because this is a huge day for me and I just wanted her to be proud and happy. I’m just lost here. Pre med relationships are not easy.

Should I just end it with her? Should I just wait? Am I the A hole…????

EDIT: thanks for everyone’s input. We ended up talking afterward and it went really well. We both apologized and she was really ecstatic for me. Everything is good :) and I’m going to relax😵‍💫

🌞 HAPPY I got 100% in Gen Chem 1

Just wanted to brag because I originally thought i’d crash and burn in this class and tank my gpa.

However, thanks to some study tips from this subreddit and the chem subreddit I can officially say I got 100% course grade in Gen Chem 1! Starting gen chem 2 today so any tips are appreciated.

Thank you all and to all good luck on whatever it is that may be challenging you!

😢 SAD I love seeing all the people on admit.org getting into the school I'm waiting on a decision for

Sure I applied MD-PhD so it's probably different, but still hurts nonetheless. Interview wasn't great so I didn't have high expectations, but genuinely one of the worst feelings in the world. I'm just staring at my phone praying they call me and just kinda knowing it's not gonna happen.

hi! i have my first MD interview next week and am looking for advice. i've only had traditional formats so far and ive done well w those, just haven't done an MMI before. i have adhd lol and my biggest struggle is slowing down and piecing everything together in a way that makes sense to the other person. in other words, i can be a bit sporadic and tend to ramble. any advice is much appreciated!

😡 Vent Pre-II rejection from my IS school

First R that actually hurt because it was my top pick. 8 points above their mean mcat (!?!??) but not a good fit I guess. I got interviews from the two other states I’m tied to so thought I was writing well about connections. Even more frustrating because this was my shot at in-state tuition vs out of state at Alma Mater and hometown state. Fmllll not even an interview guys rly

❔ Question Reapplicants and Letters of Recommendation

• Upvotes

If in the first application cycle you only applied to a few schools and did not get in, but in the next cycle apply to new schools, is it true you are not a reapplicant to the new schools in your second cycle?

I believe this is what AMCAS says, but also that the new schools you apply to might ask in secondaries if you have applied to medicial school in general at all.

If you apply to a new school in your second cycle, that doesn't have a secondary prompt about reapplication, is it best to ask letters of recommendation writers to not mention that you are a reapplicant in their letters of recommendation when they resubmit their letters?

😢 SAD How cooked with an ai violation

Basically I am a junior electrical engineering major at a top 10 university. I’ve been doing pre-med since freshman year along with this. What happened was in an intro programming class my first semester, I was hella depressed and lazy back then and essentially copy pasted an entire assignment from chat a minute before the due date like a dumbass and got caught. I got on probation for two quarters, but don’t think it shows in the transcript though. I’m obviously going to tell the truth about it on the application but I have two options for the future: either continue on this path or turn to engineering full time as I was able to get a good internship for next year. Does anyone have any success stories or advice with a similar situation? I’m not trying to waste a bunch of time and money as from what I’ve seen on the internet it’s over if you get something like this. Im wondering if there is a chance.

❔ Discussion Torn between going for a major I want and a major that would be easier.

I am currently applying to colleges right now. I’m wanting to major in aerospace engineering but I know it’s a really hard major and it might screw up my gpa and not make it as competitive. Now I could go something easier like biology or finance, but if I weren’t to be accepted into med school I was wanting to do engineering instead. Is it worth the risk of not getting into med school for a major I’d want to pursue as a backup, or should I just go the easy path and do an easier major?

❔ Discussion Gap year versus not??

Hey everyone, I'm super conflicted about taking a gap year versus not and I'm trying to sort it out before I schedule my mcat. Here is what my stats are.

My biggest concern is my GPA. I had a hard time adjusting to college level classes freshmen year so my GPA took a hit at first. I've been better and even made the deans list last year (I'm a junior for reference). This puts my gpa at about a 3.5.

For ECs:

Research: I work in two labs and I already have 400 hours as of right now with two posters in the works that I will be presenting at two conferences at the end of this academic year. I'm also gonna be working on an honors thesis. I'm expecting to have about 650-700 by the time I graduate.

Clinical: I work as a peds MA right now and by the end of junior year I expect to have 250-300ish hours from that job alone, but I'm trying to get another PRN/per-diem role in the meantime (if it works out, fingers-crossed since I've gotten auto-rejected some 40 million times). I also have clinical volunteering in pediatrics from my local hospital where I interact 1:1 with the patients.

Non-clinical volunteering: I just started volunteering as a tutor for children with neuro-developmental disabilities, and I plan to do this for about 2.5 hours every week starting in November (once I finish all my training for it). I additionally have about 100 hours from non-clinical work at the hospital (inventory, transport), and

Leadership: VP of a club on campus - 150 hours projected

My main dilemma: Take MCAT in April and assess whether I can apply this May based on my score, or decide to take a gap year and push MCAT to summer 2027.

Either way I will be under-loading in the spring 2027 semester to study for the mcat, and I am taking biochem (my last pre-req).

Given my GPA and ECs, what are your guy's thoughts? Thanks!!

😢 SAD Low gpa rant

I don’t apply until next cycle but I get so frustrated looking at my overall application sometimes. Specifically my science gpa (I didn’t do too hot my sophomore year). It’s at a 3.5 and as a Texas resident ik that’s not competitive.

I look at all my other stats and the numbers are great which makes me even more frustrated cause it’s one singular number that ik drags my application down

🗨 Interviews Any high research applicants get no interview questions about research?

I know i’m applying to MED school so research questions wouldn’t be entirely relevant but i would have thought i would have been asked at least one question about research. Like especially with how emphasized research is in applying to med school?

I’ve only had 2 interviews so far so maybe it makes sense but really? The two schools were also pretty research heavy

🔮 App Review Should I even apply?

Hi everyone. I just graduated with my bio pre-med degree in May. It’s always been my dream to be a doctor, however, I’m wondering if I even have a chance or if I should just pursue something else and not even waste my time.

The reason I’m wondering this is because of my grades. Here are the main issues:

3.57 cumulative GPA, 3.2 science GPA

D+ in gen chem 1 freshmen year; retook and got a B and got an A in gen chem 2

C+ in ochem 1 but got an A in ochem 2 and A- in biochem 1

The rest of my prerequisites and other grades are either As or Bs, and my semester GPAs did improve to approximately 3.7 my later semesters from around 3.3 my earlier semesters.

Besides the grades, I have plenty going for me. I was a student-athlete on our NCAA swim team all 4 years, team captain for the last 2 years, on the student athlete advisory committee for 3 years, and on the executive committee the last 2, and I worked as an EMT for a private company part-time during my senior year. Now I work as an EMT part-time for an extremely busy fire department and I’m also a full-time ER tech. By the time I’d apply I’d have 2.5k-3.5k clinical hours between all jobs. I don’t have any research experience.

If I did apply I’d definitely plan on getting some shadowing/volunteering as well.

Between everything, does anyone know if I should even waste my time studying for the MCAT and waiting for application cycles? I’m wondering if I should consider something else like nursing, PA, or even firefighter paramedic.

Thank you so much to whoever decided to read this and respond, hopefully I can make a decision soon and fall asleep easier lol.

😡 Vent Why does pre med have to be so toxic 😭 🙏

I have this friend who’s pre med with me as well, and he has the highest grade in the class but he’s so condescending and egotistical. I asked him a question regarding one of our labs and he straight up told me he can’t help because it can ruin his “chance” of getting accepted like what??? Keep in mind it’s our first year and we are planning on transferring to different universities…

❔ Question Is it worth pursuing a volunteer research position as a 25 year old post grad?

I graduated in 2023 and unfortunately never had any research experience during undergrad. I honestly regret it a lot especially because i went to a large research school. I haven’t had much luck applying to posted positions.

I’ve been building my clinical experience during my gap years (2000+ hours so far). I recently started an MA job too thats pretty flexible (2-3 days per week) while I study for the MCAT(planning to test in January)

Theres a few labs I’m interested in cold emailing for opportunities but does it even make sense for me to do volunteer research? Or should I only pursue posted part time/full time positions even if it’s research im not as interested in?

I’m 25 years old living at home so thats the only reason why a volunteer position would be possible. Im planning to apply in the 2027 cycle, so I’m not sure how worth it is to pursue with 8ish months until I apply
