SPECIAL EDITION October 15th Reaction Thread (2026)

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Hello 2026-2027 cycle MD applicants! Here is your thread for October 15th hype, reactions, and discussion.

Congrats to everyone who's interviewed with MD schools and is patiently waiting for a decision! (Also congrats to those who have been accepted early decision MD or DO.)

October 15th is the first day MD schools are recommended to release acceptances to regular decision applicants, based on AMCAS traffic rules. (Note that some schools do their own thing and may have already sent out acceptances or will send initial acceptances later.)

The mod team wishes you all the best. Manifest those As!!!

Please keep all October 15th discussion and reactions in this thread. If you make an individual post about your acceptance over the next few days, we’ll probably remove it.

Also please don’t lose hope if you haven’t received any interviews or acceptances at this point in the cycle. It’s not over until it’s over, which can be over a year following the opening of AMCAS in May!

SPECIAL EDITION Secondaries Directory (2026-2027)

Welcome to the 2027 application cycle!

AMCAS, AACOMAS, and TMDSAS are all open for submission and currently transmitting to schools. If you've had a chance to submit your primary application and want to get ahead on writing secondary essays, this post is for you.

To track how far along AMCAS is with verification, check the following:

Below are some resources you can use to pre-write essays, track which schools have sent out secondaries, and monitors schools' progress through the cycle.

Admit.org:

Admit has a year-to-year database of which secondary prompts were sent by each school. This is very helpful in tracking current cycle prompts you have not received or predicting whether a school is likely to change their prompts this cycle. Admit also has individual school-specific threads.

Admit secondary essay prompts database

Admit medical school forums

Student Doctor Network (SDN):

SDN has a secondary essay prompts database, an interview feedback database, and school-specific threads. The secondary essay prompts database and school-specific threads are similar to Admit, while the interview feedback database is unique to SDN. You can use it to find information about interview formats, typical interview questions, and overall impressions from each medical school's interview day.

SDN secondary essays prompts database

SDN interview feedback database

School-specific threads:

Once secondaries are sent by schools, users post the prompts into the school-specific threads, and the prompts are edited into the first comment of the thread. If secondaries are not yet posted for the current cycle, you can refer to the prior cycle's thread, the secondary essay database, or Admit for pre-writing.

Reminder of Rule 10: Use school-specific threads for school-specific questions.

The biggest issue with Reddit is that it is not organized to track information longitudinally. Popular posts get buried after a day or two. Even if Admit or SDN are not your preferred platforms, they are set up better for the organization of school-specific information over time. We ask that you use school-specific threads (either on Admit or SDN) for school-specific questions and discussion, sorry.

Consider using CycleTrack!

Created by u/DanielRunsMSN and /u/Infamous-Sail-1, both MD/PhD students, "CycleTrack is a free tool for creating school lists, tracking application cycle actions, visualizing your cycle with graphs and contributing your de-identified data to make the application process more transparent and more accessible."

Good luck this cycle everyone!

☑️ Extracurriculars How the heck am I supposed to compete💀

Found this on SDN

I am also a second year and I only have 30 hours shadowing for one specialty, 0 clinical hours, 0 research, 35 hours volunteering 💀 how do people accumulate so much hours in one year? Second year of college just started and I remember my first year being stuck on campus with no way of getting out to do these sort of opportunities. All the hours I have were racked during summer and even then, I couldn’t get a clinical job so I had to work as a dishwasher

🌞 HAPPY Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine Receives Preliminary Accreditation and Open's Nation’s Fifth HBCU Allopathic Medical School, Set to Welcome First Class in 2027

This is so exciting! For reference there are currently four other HBCU medical schools open which are Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. This is a huge win! XULA's school of medicine is also the first HBCU school of medicine operating in the gulf south as well.

"The College of Medicine will begin recruiting students in coming weeks for its inaugural class starting in 2027, advancing the vision for America's next historically Black college of medicine."

This is great news and I look forward to the success of the school. What are your thoughts?

❔ Discussion is it normal to still have complete silence by now?

like not even a single rejection??? I mean thank god but not hearing a single thing so far I’m like did my application even go through… complete silence from MD and DO schools and I know people with lower and higher stats than me that have already heard so I’m starting to panic (trying not to but I can feel a crash out coming soon). and don’t even get me started on those emails that schools send that end up being info session invites.

🗨 Interviews Relationship problems amidst As

Hey… I got the A today!!!!!!! From my two top schools.

I wanted to call my girlfriend to tell her on the phone but she kept shutting me down over text and telling me she’s studying in the library and she has a lot of work and cannot call. I told her to tell me when she’s free so that I can tell her over the phone.

She finally got the hint and realized that since it’s Oct 15 I must have found something out about med schools. But she continued to ask me to just send her a text or voice note and got increasingly frustrated when I told her that I want to wait to call until she’s free. She told me she hates waiting and that she doesn’t have the time right now.

She’s now mad at me for not just texting her. I’m lost because this is a huge day for me and I just wanted her to be proud and happy. I’m just lost here. Pre med relationships are not easy.

Should I just end it with her? Should I just wait? Am I the A hole…????

EDIT: thanks for everyone’s input. We ended up talking afterward and it went really well. We both apologized and she was really ecstatic for me. Everything is good :) and I’m going to relax😵‍💫

😢 SAD Got waitlisted today

I know it’s not the end of the world and that I have a solid chance but I’m feeling so inadequate right now. 1 waitlist and radio silence from everyone else after applying to 30+ schools… I just feel so tired. currently procrastinating on telling my parents

😡 Vent Sad 8 days

Feeling depressed after my interview last week that went pretty well (MD interviewer said he will give highest recommendation to admissions committee) and they said i won’t hear from them for at least 3-4 weeks bc there’s so many people ahead who need to be decided on. Come today and I wake up to a WL email after 8 days. Feels like they wasted no time putting me on WL, I mean 8 days? Don’t even know how to feel, just pretty upset esp since I know many are getting happy news today…

Edit: for clinical it’s also 450 (march to sept)

Research is 450 over 1.4 years

Trying to decide what to do next summer, 600 clinical or 600 research from may to aug full time

🌞 HAPPY I got 100% in Gen Chem 1

Just wanted to brag because I originally thought i’d crash and burn in this class and tank my gpa.

However, thanks to some study tips from this subreddit and the chem subreddit I can officially say I got 100% course grade in Gen Chem 1! Starting gen chem 2 today so any tips are appreciated.

Thank you all and to all good luck on whatever it is that may be challenging you!

Is it possible to get ghosted even though the school sends out R and IIs to other people.

😢 SAD I love seeing all the people on admit.org getting into the school I'm waiting on a decision for

Sure I applied MD-PhD so it's probably different, but still hurts nonetheless. Interview wasn't great so I didn't have high expectations, but genuinely one of the worst feelings in the world. I'm just staring at my phone praying they call me and just kinda knowing it's not gonna happen.

🗨 Interviews MMI advice

hi! i have my first MD interview next week and am looking for advice. i've only had traditional formats so far and ive done well w those, just haven't done an MMI before. i have adhd lol and my biggest struggle is slowing down and piecing everything together in a way that makes sense to the other person. in other words, i can be a bit sporadic and tend to ramble. any advice is much appreciated!

❔ Question Reapplicants and Letters of Recommendation

If in the first application cycle you only applied to a few schools and did not get in, but in the next cycle apply to new schools, is it true you are not a reapplicant to the new schools in your second cycle?

I believe this is what AMCAS says, but also that the new schools you apply to might ask in secondaries if you have applied to medicial school in general at all.

If you apply to a new school in your second cycle, that doesn't have a secondary prompt about reapplication, is it best to ask letters of recommendation writers to not mention that you are a reapplicant in their letters of recommendation when they resubmit their letters?

😡 Vent Family argument over LOI

Would like to preface this by saying this is a good problem to have and I am very grateful for my acceptance :)

I sent one of my state schools a letter of intent after interviewing because:
1) It’s a mission fit and has a great school culture,
2) I wanted to stay close to home, and
3) this is the only state school that has interviewed me, and I wanted to maximize my odds of acceptance.

Granted, it was early in the cycle to send a LOI and perhaps too hasty. I stand by it, though - I’m thrilled and would love to go there. It’s not well-ranked in research, but I don’t want to match into a competitive specialty anyway - I’m going for primary care or maaaybe hospital pediatrics.

I told my parents today about the acceptance, and then about the LOI, and while they were initially thrilled, they are having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that my cycle is essentially over. I turned out to be a stronger candidate than I thought and have an interview lined up at a higher-ranked school, but going into this I did not think my cycle would go well - I have a high MCAT but am not particularly research, clinical, or service heavy. So from my perspective, the LOI was a way of trying to get some certainty for myself early in the cycle, since this whole process and the waiting was just getting on my nerves.

I think I should ethically cancel my upcoming interview, but my parents are insistent that I should do it, even though I know I will ultimately not matriculate there, just for “practice.” Any thoughts on how to navigate this conversation with an overbearing family?

😢 SAD How cooked with an ai violation

Basically I am a junior electrical engineering major at a top 10 university. I’ve been doing pre-med since freshman year along with this. What happened was in an intro programming class my first semester, I was hella depressed and lazy back then and essentially copy pasted an entire assignment from chat a minute before the due date like a dumbass and got caught. I got on probation for two quarters, but don’t think it shows in the transcript though. I’m obviously going to tell the truth about it on the application but I have two options for the future: either continue on this path or turn to engineering full time as I was able to get a good internship for next year. Does anyone have any success stories or advice with a similar situation? I’m not trying to waste a bunch of time and money as from what I’ve seen on the internet it’s over if you get something like this. Im wondering if there is a chance.

🔮 App Review Should I take an additional year?

Hi everyone! I hope everyone’s cycle is going well to those currently applying! I’m hoping for some perspective on a decision I’m trying to make rn, thank you :)

I’ve been planning on applying next cycle in 2027 but I’m beginning to feel like waiting until 2028 is the move. For context I have 3.2 cGPA and 3.7 sGPA, 4.0 for all my undergrad / all prerequisites / past 130 credits. Insanely poor grades 10 years ago doing college in high school is why my cumulative is so low.

No MCAT yet - I’m planning on taking April 2027.

My research and clinical are strong - ~2,250 clinical hours and ~1,000 research hours w a poster presentation next week and manuscript in progress.

Volunteering and shadowing is next to none. I have 130 volunteer hours I accumulated back in 2024, but nothing meaningful. This is largely why I’m thinking of delaying. I graduate in December and I think trying to fit in meaningful volunteering, MCAT, shadowing, trying to save money for apps, and continuing research is going to be too difficult from January - June. I NEED a solid MCAT because of my shit cumulative so there’s that pressure there as well. Idk.

Am I being neurotic about it though? Should I just send it for 2027? Part of me feels weirdly disappointed in myself like I’m stepping down or something idk. I’m 25, got a later start to my undergrad, and the past 2 years have consisted of me working my ass off in my classes and research. I haven’t really had time for anything else. Will taking another year look bad to adcoms? That just feels neurotic as hell to type lol but idk man I just need perspective from people that are on the same path / actually doing the thing, you know. Thanks guys :) Hoping for lots of interviews and A’s for you all this cycle !!!!

😡 Vent Pre-II rejection from my IS school

First R that actually hurt because it was my top pick. 8 points above their mean mcat (!?!??) but not a good fit I guess. I got interviews from the two other states I’m tied to so thought I was writing well about connections. Even more frustrating because this was my shot at in-state tuition vs out of state at Alma Mater and hometown state. Fmllll not even an interview guys rly

☑️ Extracurriculars Internship

Do you think internships considerably helped your application? If you did internships all 4 summers you had in your undergrad, and were admitted to a MD could you please also share your stats and what type of internship they were?

Thank you!

☑️ Extracurriculars Gap year options: MA or Research?

repost from another board bc i finally got enough karma to post ✨

I recently graduated and I am currently studying for my mcat, but trying to decide what to do for my gap year afterwards. I’ve been considering applying to CRC roles (clinical research), MA (more direct patient care), or Research Technologist (bench or translational research).

For reference I graduated w/ BA in Physiology and Public Health. I have about 5 years working as a CNA (adult + peds, both acute care inpatient), 3.5 years working as a clinical research assistant, and I also completed 2 clinically-focused internships and have had several long term patient-facing volunteer roles focused on expanding health access/community health settings (for example, I have volunteered as a medical assistant in a free clinic for the past 2 years).

My original thought process was that I have a lot of patient care experience, so research is probably where I am lacking the most. I also did not have any publications/posters in my undergraduate position, but I did work on an independent research project with my PI across 2 semesters (unfortunately was not complete because of PI health issues).

In terms of CRC and Research Tech- would it make a difference for my application if I was in bench vs clinical research, and also wondering which would be most likely to have opportunities for pubs/posters? Also wondering about the pay differences for these positions compared to MA, since I would like to save up some money for apps as well :)

final note: I did graduate with a lower sGPA than I would’ve wanted, but with an upwards trajectory my last 1-2 years- so do we think that a research tech position would help portray the idea that I am capable of learning and applying scientific principles in a professional setting, or am I just overthinking it at this point.

If you made it this far pls let me know ur thoughts, i’m just so unsure which direction to go at this point!
