What killed a fox?

• Upvotes

A few days ago at work, we caught the death of a fox on CCTV. It happened just before 02:00 in the morning.

It walks in to frame with what looks to be a rat or other small animal in its jaws. It walks normally and seems just like a regular healthy fox. Then it stops for a few seconds, stands on its hind legs and falls over on its back.

It then lies on its side, moves its head for maybe 10 seconds and looks to be dead.

It was found and removed the next day and colleagues who removed it saw no injuries to the fox, nor is there any blood where it fell.

Pictures I saw of it showed no mange or malnurishment. Nice thick fur and no blood around the mouth or nose either.

My first inclination was that it was shot, but since this is on the outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark, and inside a secured freeport/customs area, hunting is out, and poaching seems unlikely also.

The only poison I can imagine that would work this fast is Carbofuran or similar, but they are banned here in Denmark, and has been for ages.

Did we just witness a fox having a stroke or a coronary and die, or could it have come across poison bait left by professional pestcontrol or is there something else going on?

FEBREEZE FABRIC GAIN KILLS FLEAS!

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

So I have a cat, shes not even 6 months yet and she's infested I'm like 80 percent sure it was cause the dog downstairs cause my cat is on the second floor and can't go outside (apartment building) but she's infested with Fleas. I've been scared shitless of her blood everywhere cause her itching so hard, so I give baths but it works for like a day then it's back to dry.

Not too long ago I had a wasp in my apartment but I didn't have any bug spray so I panicked and used air fresher to drown it, specifically Febreeze pink rose petals air mist. And it killed the wasp, so I remembered that and I had the thought yesterday to try it on the fleas. It worked a Bit not that much. (I sprayed it on a carpet, not the cat herself, I had the door closed so she couldn't be exposed to the direct air freshener) so then I grabbed a Febreeze gain fabric air freshener and HOLY SHIT THEY HATE THIS STUFF!

I literally got the bottle from WALMART and now the infestation is down by 60 percent! For the first time in a long time I got to sleep without bites or itching!

What I did was tuck my pants into my sock and put shoes on so they can't bite my ankles. Walk around the apartment, mainly my cats usual spots and let them gather on my legs, then I go to the bathroom, close the door and whack or pick them off or fabric freshener them off my legs and make them fall into the tub, when I've gotten all off on both legs, I drown them in water and watch them flood down the drain. I soaked the carpets with this and IT WAS NOTHING BUT DEAD FLEAS, I DIDN'T EVEN THINK I HAD THAT MANY. YES IT WORKS ON HARD SURFACES TOO! I washed the carpets in the washing machine after and dried the floor with a towel.

TLDR: Febreeze Fabric softener air freshener, Gain. I know it sounds weird but it works and is cheap and at almost any convenient store or grocery store.

It felt weird not letting everyone know this cheaper alternative so here's the post. I know a lot of ppl won't believe me but I'm begging you, at least try it. Maybe my fleas are just on the verge of death constantly but here's hoping I help out that one person who is just as scared as I was.

Pics: 1st, What I used. 2nd, proof I have them and what I do to get them in one place. 3rd, how I kill them all at once.

Tiny little brown ants have been appearing around the kitchen bench recently. I spot maybe 5-10 daily. I can't really identify a source or what they're looking for. Sometimes on the bench we have our organics bag, which we try to take out every 1-2 days but they're not really around there. They sort of just walk around.

Can someone please advise? TIA

General Question Is this legal use of poison? UK

Moved into terraced flat in London, one bedroom renting. Quickly realised there is a problem with mice.

Contacted landlord who sent her own pest control guy out the same night so felt good about it being dealt with. He put down bags of poison.
Came back a week later to check them and seal the holes.
He has left bags of poison that are half chewed and spilling across the bottom of the clothes cupboard floor.
Contacted him and landlord and they are saying that the bait needs to be left as a precaution incase he missed any holes and that she has contacted the neighbours to also get pest control in.
Isn’t this hazardous leaving poison open like this?

General Question Carpet moths , active infestation?

Is this evidence of an active carpet moth infestation?

I’d really appreciate some advice. I’ve recently moved into a new flat and noticed significant damage to the carpets. I’ve attached some photos.

The tenancy manager initially told me that the damage was old and that the carpets had been treated for carpet moths over a year ago.

After I insisted that the issue needed to be investigated, they eventually told me that an assessment had been carried out. According to them, the assessor reported that they “couldn’t find evidence of moths on his visit”. There were apparently" no fresh casings, no moths flying around, and the damage didn’t look fresh".

However, I’ve noticed what appear to be eggs in some of the moth-eaten areas, which makes me concerned that there could still be an active infestation.

I’ve asked for more information about the assessment, but the tenancy manager has refused to copy me into the correspondence. Given the circumstances, I’m not entirely confident that I’m getting the full picture.

I’m considering arranging an independent pest control inspection for a second opinion.

General Question What is going on with this mouse?

Hello all!

We live in a small 1950's 3 bedroom appartment in the Netherlands. We have had a mice infestation (if you could consider it that?) for about a year now since the elderly couple under our unit passed away. We think they had nothing left to eat in the empty appartment and builders started soon. Bit by bit we have found more holes and plugged them and found more sources of food and closed them off. At one point they chewed through an old wood cabinet. We see them running past on about a bi weekly basis. The apartment is small so we assumed the infestation wasn't too large. Just now, me and my friend/housemate were having breakfast at the table when my friend saw this one just sitting there. Mind you we were not even two meters (7ft?) away from it. I freaked, thank god my friend hadn't left for work yet. She approached and took a video this screenshot is from and she walked up from the table to right infront of it and it didn't move. Eventually she nudged it on a dustpan and brought it outside. We think it might have been so starved it stopped caring, does this mean it's almost over? Is there hope₍₍ (ง ˙ω˙)ว ⁾⁾?

TLDR: mouse was just chilling with my friend standing over it. Does this mean we are effectively keeping our food away and plugged most holes?

Unanswered Bathroom infestation with mantis and spider pets

I’ve noticed small roaches in my bathroom, crawling behind the handles and inside the tub, around the sink, only in the bathroom.

I keep spiders, mantises, and isopods as pets. I’ve never once had a roach problem in my life so I’m panicking. I’m planning to move my insects over to another house while this is being situated which is a very bad situation for me. I would rather not stay away from my actual home for longer than I have to.

I need this solved asap without sprays or anything that might hurt my pets. My bedroom shares a wall with the bathroom and the house is small. I heard using gels and roach bait stations will help.. but I don’t know what brand or which one works best.

Please, advice is very needed and appreciated . I do not own this house, I do not rent it. I live with my dad who won’t call someone to handle this since we don’t have the funds so that’s not an option

Found this bug in my sheets

Since traveling to an airbnb (quirky granny unit) in Reno, I've been washing my sheets every few days. I've had some bites, but stopped the past couple of days. After line drying my sheets, I found this while putting them back on. Is it too small to be a bed bug? Could it be something else?

Thanks!

Identification Fly ID

I’m finding them in my kitchen they seem to be:
- very attracted to light
- smaller then a fruit fly
- black and shiny with like brown coloured legs
- winged
- have long antenna
- they kind of jump/ bounce around - also fly but they seemingly hop more

they are not coming from my kitchen sink

I don’t think they’re phorid flies because of the long antenna and don’t have an arched back, I don’t think they’re fungus gnats I don’t have plants

Last photo of a squished one you can kind of see the brown legs

Home inspection came back with termites

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am a potential first time homeowner with a property currently under contract. However, I had a WDI inspection done which showed evidence of subterranean termites in an isolated area in the front of the home. Currently the home has been unoccupied for a year and owned by a real estate company so it is likely the pest control lapsed. Technician from a pest control company told me that ~80% of homes in my area have termites, have had termites, or don’t know they have termites.

Considering the seller will pay for the recommended treatment (with warranty) and install the bait stations for monitoring I am wondering if i should move forward with the purchase of this home. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Identification I suddenly have these bugs appear all over my apartment and I'm running out of ideas

Thumbnail gallery

So in the spring I left my apartment for 3 months there where only a few of them but when I came back in the fall 3 months later my apartment is infested with them, I had no food in my apartment (1 cleaned it all out before I left) and I have no house plants. I set some yellow sticky traps up but they seem to ignore the yellow sticky trap. They love light and heat, they fly near my face and body. I already boarded up my windows and cleaned my drains and I have no visible AC until. I already called pest control too and it didn't so anything to them. They are pretty slow and they seem to just be everywhere. My location is in America and I live in southern Georgia. Does anyone have any ideas?
Tldr : these bugs appeared in the spring and I have no food or house plants. I've sealed all my windows and cleaned the sinks. The bugs are light and heat sensitive
(Edit: I forgot to mention they also come with phoid flies if that helps)

General Question having an ant problem

Post image
4 Upvotes

hello all, let me get straight to the point, about 3ish weeks ago i noticed ants in my room (i do keep drinks and snacks in my room) i cleaned them up and completely moved all my snacks and cleaned that whole entire area. we found out some gushers melted in the box and thats where they were coming from. fast forward to today i was eating dinner in my room and i saw an ant crawl on the wall so i killed it and then noticed a bunch of them on my cookies, i just bought them yesterday at the store and they were NOT opened yet, they were sealed. i clean my room very frequently and idk if the ants are coming from some of the food like from the snacks sitting in the floor or if they’re coming from somewhere else. i clean up after myself constantly and i never leave food out or drinks out. my desk is right next to my snack area and no ants have been in the drawer of my desk or anything. i also have a window in my room and i’m curious if they could be coming through the window or something? first time having an ant problem and i’ve kept snacks in my room for years. i’m gonna have my mom get some ant bait at the store but is there any other way i can figure out exactly where they’re coming from? should i take all snacks and drinks out of my room until this is completely fixed? picture is the area i keep finding them in and where i keep my snacks at. i am deathly afraid of bugs, would appreciate any tips!

Powder post beetles

I have signs of powder post beetles in my crawl space, which is very moist. I have a crew going down to get the seasonal wetness under control with a new vapor barrier and sump pump system, and had a pest control company come out to inspect

The pest control company seemed to try scare tactics saying that my whole house was going to fall down if I didn't immediately contract with them for 10k (with 10% off just to be nice!), citing the beetles, some signs of carpenter ants, dry rot, the works. After that I had some other folks come out with a very different assessment - that the joists all look fine and there is no measurable sag anywhere in the house- and I'm a bit confused.

Question is - how do I know if I should treat for powderpost beetles or do some kind of wood preservative treatment?

General Question Grain mite issue || Looking for help & advice

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello! I need some help at the moment
This morning I found out that my bin was completely covered in grain mites. And upsettingly enough- but my guitar & my headphones we're also covered in them.
This isn't my first time having to deal with grain mites, however I never had this much of an issue with them before.
I've fully gotten rid of the bin, and I've thoroughly cleaned my guitar. However I'm having problems with trying to get rid of the mites on my headphones. I've cleaned them 3 times already - I've used things like bleach, elbow grease, and even alcohol.. And they keep coming back.

I don't want to replace them as I'm currently tight on money, I just came on here to ask advice from those who have dealt with this issue before- And I'm also looking for recommendations on what cleaning methods I should use

General Question What’s my best course of action? Looking for advice

I moved into my house about a year ago during the winter. And after a month we noticed there were mice in our home. Finding dropping in drawers, and underneath the fridge. In that winter we probably caught 10-15 mice, over the spring, summer and fall, we only caught 3. I recently got a 3 month rodent program through orkin, which kind of feels stupid since I’d want it year round. But I guess I’ll figure it out once those three months end (I was also desperate to get it under control before the winter came.) He pointed out spots I’d be able to seal with caulking, and he also set up bait stations. He told me I could pay for expulsion, but since I live in a duplex and have an attached neighbour. It might be for nothing, since the mice could probably get into my home from their side, if they had an entry points.

So what I’m asking is, what is the best thing for me to do? Because I have no clue. Should I talk to my neighbours? Should I do the expulsion myself? Or pay possible 1-2 thousand for a professional to do it? I thought to ask her if anyone could help weigh my options because I have no experience with this. They’re also deer mice and I know about the risks they carry

If anyone could respond, much would be appreciated thank you. And if you have any questions feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to answer
