Worse drivers state tag wise? Maryland or New Jersey?
Just curious what people think. Maryland is notorious but I think New Jersey is taking over slowly.

Completely serious question. I'm as addicted to my phone as anybody else, but what's so very important that you're doing on your phone that you use it while driving?

i'm originally from california and i noticed virginia and maryland drivers leave the most insane spaces at red lights/between cars. we were always tough half a car length as a buffer, but this is just ridiculous and clogs up traffic behind. why???

Not sure if you guys got a huge price hike on health insurance (Thanks republicans), but I'll probably go another year without it.
Does any company still give free flu/covid vaccines anymore? Or low cost at least?

Is anybody sick of this terrible humidity hanging in the air? I know we have an abnormally high level of moisture in the air, but it’s usually gone by now. I’m so tired of my sheets feeling clammy and towels still being wet in the morning. It’s too hot to turn on the heat., and running the air conditioner makes it way too cold. Guess I’ll have to buy a portable dehumidifier for my bedroom.

Howdy Nova community! My sister and I are running It Will Take Us an immersive mystery experience at Lyon Village Community House.
Yesterday, we decided to add a performance for this Friday. We were thinking of ways to make it more accessible as it is a bit last minute and we decided to offer a discount to those of you who see this post. You don't have to like or comment, the code will be at the end!
Since we are increasing the price as we get better at putting on the show, I thought some of you might not have seen our posts or know what we're about and thus the cost could be prohibitive. We would like to offer this community and the Arligntonova community a discount so you can come see what we're doing.
Use the code ATRWCNK at check out for 30% off on tickets for Friday in groups of up to 5 people.

I’m looking for the best antique and/or vintage stores in NOVA. I’m mostly trying to find antique furniture, such as night stands and bookshelves. I’d really appreciate some recommendations! Just came back from New England and man, the antique shops up there are POPPING almost as vibrant as the leaves are, and I found so many furniture items I loved but my lil Corolla can’t fit a 72” tall 48” bookshelf in it 🫠

Our daughter applied online for an absentee voting ballot to her college here in Virginia on October 6. She has been voting absentee three times in the past years successfully this way. She has a screenshot that the request has been received.
Today, tracking still says it has not been sent, and the disclaimer says tracking will only be updated once scanned by the post office. So it seems it hasn't even left yet.
She will call the elections office, but I wanted to see if others here had such a delay or lack of tracking. We're definitely nervous.

Have anyone adopted a cat/dog from craigslist before? I see postings of pets that people are trying to rehome. If you have, how was your experience? Have anyone been scammed?

Does anyone know how often people actually get sent tickets from that one work-zone speeding camera? I was running late for class as I had just gotten off of work and I saw it flash for me and a couple people behind me. do people actually get sent tickets often from that one? how much are they?

To the person who wrote horrible slurs and derogatory language in chalk on the bridge, in response to the person who simply wrote "Vote Early" - you are a child. Grow up. Do not bring that kind of hatred and vitriol to public spaces. Go be miserable on your own time. I have photos, but I don't know if we really need that kind of shit here. And I'd bet my bank account that it's of course a man, because who else would repeatedly use the term c*nt (and draw it) to insult "liberals."

TLDR: October in the past has been this hot, but also yes the temperature is getting hotter slowly, slow enough people aren't noticing the changes.
Kind of getting frustrated with the growing sentiment of every weather post complaining about the heat having someone be like: "Well its always been like this"
Even the recent one with the claude ai response and data. Yes October has been this hot before but its also slowly getting hotter, IMO, enough that people aren't noticing the changes.
https://claude.ai/artifact/N4QDrxciJypsFZrPTuZzXC You do need a claude account to see it, sorry
So here is my own claude ai with the prompt: "Can you collect data from official sources for the highs and low for the Dulles airport and local area. I also want you to collect the number of records highs and lows for each year and stick them as a stat next to each year with a graph if possible as well as the avg temperature"
As you can probably see, avg temperature have been going up, notably since 1985 with the reference being the three airports in our area. What's frustrating is that this isn't really novel, nor am I doing anything crazy, there has been already a ton of people (much much smarter than myself) in all kinds of fields with the data that have already made this same observation and publishing about it.
Statewide Temp changes over time https://statesummaries.ncics.org/chapter/va/
Don't worry though, at least we aren't Reno or Texas (good god that looks miserable) https://www.climatecentral.org/climate-matters/more-extremely-hot-days
As a last word, here is my only political take: Don't forget to vote

Trying this again with a little more context since my first post was too vague.
A post in this subreddit a few months ago about a 66 Express Lanes toll app inspired me to build something of my own.
My app is called TollWatch (https://www.dmvtollwatch.com), and it’s specifically for 66 Express Lanes Inside the Beltway in Northern Virginia — not the lanes outside the Beltway.
There’s no complicated setup — just install the app, pick your entrance and exit, and you’re good to go. No registration required.
The tolls are active weekdays from 5:30–9:30 AM eastbound and 3:00–7:00 PM westbound (ET).
CarPlay and Android Auto are also in the works.
Android
iOS
Download from the App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tollwatch-dc-md-va-tolls/id6812532074
Additional testing info:
https://www.dmvtollwatch.com/get-the-app
If you commute on 66 Inside the Beltway, I’d especially appreciate your feedback. If you give it a try, let me know if anything feels confusing or doesn’t work as expected.

Hi everyone, I have completed my Masters from American University and have been living in Falls Church, ever since than I have been trying to get a job fields related to finance or Data analyst. I have been trying so hard to get myself into financial firms, like Freddie mac/Fannie, capital one, Navy-fed, Pen-Fed, to no success, not even an interview. Could anyone please share, what am I missing on. what haven't I tried. because I am reaching out to alumni, I get there referral links, networking through my church or other events. At this point I open to any positions in any areas, as long as it brings me back into the industry again. huh... it is taking a toll on me, financially and mentally.

Hi, anyone here or know where I could find information for hiring someone to do things around the home? Ie fold clothes, cut veggies, do some light cleaning, etc on a weekly basis?

hey yall - anyone have an experience or tips on how to get things done with property mgmt on repairs with cortland/AIO? i haven’t lived in there long but did report that there was *potential* water damage on the move in maintenance form, and has since gotten a lot worse.
i’m pretty much out of the apartment all day, leaving & returning when it’s dark (i’ll do a pitstop to change for the gym right after work), and keep my bedroom low/no lights. wfh last week, and actually confirmed water damage when i saw my bedroom wall & ceiling bubbling, peeling, and sagging.
reported it on the online portal maintenance + via email to mgmt to not only have it looked at, but inspect for underlying damage/mold issues, trying to raise awareness and to try and prevent any spread in my unit and to my neighbors. responses with them have been terrible (from other experience, not surprising), however thought with a situation like this would be more communicative.
a couple days ago when we had gotten all the rain on sunday into monday, i had gotten home ~5/6 a.m. and was getting ready for bed when i heard trickling from my bedroom. turns out there’s a water leak from the top of the window going straight into my hvac convector. immediately called emergency line, worried now abt potential electrical fire/damage to hvac and they said they’d come by around 8 a.m. 8 comes and goes, i have to leave at 8:30. after i send another email, i get an email ~10 that there’s someone coming to inspect and do drywall repairs and some had come in at 10:30.
since then, no communication, reports, status updates, etc. on top of that - any portal maintenance requests disappear from open status, but don’t go into closed status (which i’ve also told them about).
i understand they need to wait for the drywall to dry before repairing but like… what abt i have a strong feeling they need to inspect for mold bc water damage has been sitting there for months at this point, aren’t addressing the hvac issues i’ve raised, and aren’t really addressing the portal issue that i’ve raised, too.
not trying to be a bitch or annoying w the amt im contacting them bc i can see how they’re busy, there’s probably a lot to manage with a building like that, and it’s not like the leak cause a flood. i’m really just looking for communication on their plan for full remediation, since im increasingly feeling uncomfortable living in that space. i’m super sensitive to mold and while there’s always potential of some type in an older building, am realllyyyy trying to mitigate anything that could spread further, esp beyond my apt.
yes, i understand these events happened w/i a week, so maybe im just jumping the gun and being too persistent? but would have thought given the circumstances and initially asking them confirm water damage when i moved in makes me annoyed :/ but maybe im doing too much since there’s multiple concerns to address.
tldr; potential pre-existing water damage i reported turned into an issue, and haven’t received a response on how they’re fully addressing the issue after numerous emails and maintenance requests (to mgmt that’s unresponsive) except for someone coming into inspect drywall, and repair when it’s dried. any tips on getting through to them?/AIO?

My husband and I (late twenties) are moving to the area from out of state, within a few months hopefully. The rental market for townhomes is super competitive, and we are having a tough time finding a spot that will accept our two dogs. We were originally hoping to stay east of N Washington St, but an opportunity popped up near N Henry and Pendleton. I know this area has newer construction, but if anyone can let me know how walkable and safe it is, any insight would be appreciated!
