Saw it while filling gas, has to go check it out.

Had the low ceilings, no groceries and no self checkout. Hadn't been to the old pre super Walmarts since 2000.

Thought I'd share as this is the only one I've seen still operating.

Nostalgia Death note šŸ˜Ž

Post image
12 Upvotes

I made this back when I was in the 10th standard. At the time, I had just started watching anime, and my very first one was Death Note. I got so fascinated by it that I literally used a whitener to write on a black notebook. The next day, I took it to school and intentionally placed it on my desk so that my classmates would see it. Well, it made me feel really special because they recognized it immediately! They started asking questions like, 'Where did you buy it from?' and I would say, 'I made it myself!' šŸ˜Ž Those were happy moments.

Nostalgia Clackers

Also known as Latto-Latto and Taca-Taca. Two balls that hang at equal level, from long string, remincent of a bola weapon. By flicking your wrist up and down, you can make the clackers swing up and down. Get a good rhythm and you can look cool and make a lot of noise as the pendulums swing in quick loud succession. Screw up, and get a bruised wrists.

For some, it was a right of passage. For others, they would try it once, hurt themselves and never touch it again. Originally made from glass or hard acrylic plastic, (some were hand made, due to the popularity, made of wooden beads and possibly metal, that were sold at flea markets) apparently some would chip or explode from heavy use, injuring the user. I am also sure kids would stupidly hit each other with them. But most people just had bruised arms from normal use.

There was a ban or removal of these toys, due to the easy way of injuring one's self. However, plastic ones, generally on a stick, came out, with the same idea. You flick your wrist and the pendulums would swing up and down. You couldn't hurt yourself, unless it got too close to your face, but it was just plastic. I never tried the original ones. Not sure I'd want to, at least as a kid. Nunchaku seem safer. šŸ˜…

Hey! I'm Codei. Born in the 90s and I really enjoy making things. Especially when they remind me of growing up. One of my vhs tapes as a kid was Mewtwo Strukes back and the one I made stood 6ft 3. These were all 3d printed, primered, sanded, and hand painted.

Thanks for looking!

Been making myself a lot of nostalgic thing's lately. I use to have a lot of the Goosebumps books and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books I would read when I was a kid. I’m dedicating a shelf in my room to collecting things from my childhood

Nostalgia I built a 100% FREE "90's cable TV" network that organizes the Internet Archive's nostalgic VHS tapes into 24/7, curated, live-synced television stations.

I've been slowly cracking away at this website for the past 8 months, and would love to share and get any feedback from my fellow obscure media fanatics about the site. I'm really proud of what its turned into, and have a lot more I want to add. I just launched it public a few days ago. So far, its been a massive nostalgia bomb, and I'm planning hundreds more channels for the future.

I'm not selling anything: this is all already free on the internet archive. I'm just curating the feeling of nostalgia in how it's consumed.

I'm particularly excited about the "Rewind" stations, which host direct-from-TV VHS rips that have been uploaded to the Internet Archive. They're chronological and include all the commercials of the era. I'm a huge fan of those "sold as blanks" tapes and how they're a time capsule for the moment they were recorded.

The joy of finding an absolutely strange oddity on the archive and curating whole channels around them has been a blast.

The ultimate goal with this site is to try and make some organizational sense of the 13+ million video files living on the IA, and transform them into something entertaining, usable, and fun for anyone who loves ephemeral art, analog media, nostalgia, and just weird TV.

It's totally free to use and always will be, and there is a Discord community laid out, mainly to help me moderate inline comments on the tapes lol.

Just wanted to share out with the community, and see if this concept resonates with anyone. Have a great day!
