Opinion A perspective around gangs...
I personally find it hard, as a very white Maori, that gang culture in New Zealand is often boiled down to poverty, family, or necessity. My biological grand father was one of the countries most notorious criminals. He was a very bad man, cooked and sold crack, guns, the lot. My father, followed in his footsteps, and subsequently became a very high profile criminal.
I spent the better part of 10 years idolising the gangs. I wanted to join the head hunters and I had every fucking opportunity to, but then as I started getting older and had children, I started to realize that this isn't sustainable. The people around me were fucking monsters, they weren't just disenfranchised poor people. They were doing it becuase they loved to fucking hurt people. You can claim all you want that "they're not all bad, they're good people just had bad upbringings" but it's just not fucking true. They are living their lives with the intent to ruin others. I don't think I ever met somebody during those years that didn't enjoy hurting other people. Whether it was standing them over, beating their Mrs or kids, or just being animals to other people. Fuck I watched two dudes jump out of the front seats when I was cruising with them one day and just beat the shit out of this lady becuase she accidentally cut them off, literally stomped her head into the fucking ground. All becuase they were fried off their heads.
I didn't follow in that path for long, I couldn't use my horrible upbringing and surroundings as an excuse to pursue crime and hurt other people. But they do. And they get a pass for it becuase "that's just the culture". No, that's a fucking weak cop out for weak people who don't want to do anything to help themselves and use that as an excuse, just because that's all they've known.
All I knew as a child was violence. All I knew as a child was abuse. All I knew as a child was drugs. All I knew as a child was that hurting other people could get you what you want. But I knew better. I knew that I didn't want to hurt anybody, why would you? Why would you want to hurt somebody? Why would you want to steal from somebody? Why would you want to scare somebody? I knew this was wrong as a child, even when everybody around me was telling me otherwise.
I don't think it's fair that they get a pass, they chose this life. They chose to hurt people. The government didn't force them to do anything. The government shouldn't be the ones supporting them. They should be supporting themselves, just like I fucking did. Where is my sympathy? I grew up in systemic abuse and heartache, I grew up in the underworld. But I knew better. They know better, they just don't fucking care.

On 6 March, Grenon wrote to NZME proposing to remove all the directors from the board and to replace them with new directors, including himself.
The journalist Andrea Vance has suggested that Grenon's takeover bid was motivated by NZME's decision not to publish advertisements by right-wing groups such as Hobson's Pledge, the anti-vaccination Voices for Freedom and the conservative Christian lobby group Family First New Zealand.

Shitpost New Zealand job situation is cooked but Rocketlab is hiring
Anyone have friends who work for Rocketlab that have recently disappeared?
Maybe the reason they need new engineers is that they keep testing the Rutherford engines with their faces?
I’m no rocket scientist, but I feel there’s a better way.

Politics PSA: Campaign staff from the various parties will be actively posting in this subreddit under the guise of regular people.
We all know this happens everywhere nowadays, don't think it isn't happening here.
There will be active campaigns by some, maybe all parties, commenting, and posting, and up and down voting content they want you to see.
They will have multiple accounts, they will act like they were "going to vote for Party A, but after the news of what A has done/said, they're going to vote for Party B instead."
They will make anything Party A does as an unforgivable mistake, and anything Party B does as a nothing burger.
They will act like they are a swing voter who considers all the facts and policies and this year, and after careful consideration Party B looks the most sensible and promising choice.
And they are going to write it like they are real people, with real concerns. Shit, it might just be bots. If our online political campaigns haven't devolved into bots spamming social media yet, they're at least a decade behind the norm.
Be aware, you are probably not arguing or listening to someone or something who is commenting back in good faith.

Politics Is anyone else sitting right in the middle and still unsure who to vote for?
I'm really on the fence this election. Most parties have almost as many policies I disagree with as ones which resonate with me.
I'm considering OPP, but I'm a bit worried they lack substance and political grit to deliver. I'm also strongly against land tax and UBI. But, I'm willing to take a risk that they won't get it across the line because I align with their bottom lines.
Anyone else feel like this?

Other LED Headlights at night.
With the weather warming up, more and more kiwis are getting out on the road and going away for a weekend or holiday. Many of us are towing a caravan, boat, racecar etc or even just have the whole family packed in and a boot load of stuff.
It seems that most people dont know that when you do this, it causes the back of your car to drop, therefore making the front point upward slightly more than normal.
This makes it so even on low beam, you look like your on high beam (can't figure out why people keep flashing the brights at you? This is probably why.)
Worry not! There is a fix! In most if not all newer vehicles, I'm looking at you in particular ranger owners. There is a dial, usually near your right knee. This dial adjusts the height angle of your headlights, if your loaded up and the rear is dropped. Adjust the angle down. BOOM, PROBLEM SOLVED! congratulations, your no longer a dick! (Except you nee Mitsubishi Triton and Eclipse cross owners, your lights are just obnoxious in general.)
As someone whose job it is to drive at night. PLEASE do this, and spread the word!

Travel Driving in nz
Brit here on a working holiday.
Two things that actually shock me about driving here:
- People driving on their phones (it’s genuinely scary how many people will be on their phones whilst driving, I don’t understand it and I see alot of signs stating not to use your phones but I’ve even seen police on their phones, question is: is this law not really enforced?) coming from the uk it’s so strict there with phones that we even have cameras installed throughout the country that catches people on their phones.
Pick up trucks: I’ve spoke with alot of WHV workers from all different countries and we have all said the same thing. Pick up trucks speeding down the back roads/ country roads tail gating. Even when you’re doing the speed limit already (it is always the large pick up trucks) are they the BMW drivers of New Zealand
(EDIT: people are referring these to utes or rangers)
Anyways your country is extremely beautiful. Please don’t take this post as an attack, just a girl scared of getting into a car accident here xx
