If I see coffee for more than 5€ I‘m not buying it, period.

5 euro, for a coffee? that is still too much...

Depends where you are. In the Netherlands, 4+ is pretty standard cafe prices, even supermarket kiosk coffee is going to be 2+

You can refuse to pay it, but that means you aren't going to cafes. All depends on where your line in the sand is.

I am so glad coffee is one thing my body doesn’t enjoy. Because I have an addictive personality and I would be BROKE.

I drink water to wake up because I'm a psychopath.

Jesus, does that make me a psychopath too?

I mean, it's still pretty cheap if you don't buy it from coffee shops. Pretty much most people have a coffee machine at home and every work place I've been at has decent machine coffee (it's pretty much a non negotiable perk for most Dutch at this stage)

The Netherlands drinks the most coffee per capita in the world, so price clearly isn't stopping them. Also helps that wages are pretty high here, therefore cost of living increases also.

Even plain coffee from a coffee shop isn’t that bad of price. It’s when you start getting into all the specialty coffee drinks that add a ton of sugar/ syrup, steamed milk etc etc (95% of the menu really) that they get really expensive for “just a coffee”. That’s also what turns it into an expensive dessert rather than a daily cup of coffee.

I know that the Dutch like it strong and black, but that's not for me.

I like my latte/cappuccino and that's still pretty damn pricey

Fair enough, but you can still get a black coffee, and add sugar and creamer. Without being the pricey sugary drinks as well.

There are still some Jumbos where you can get free coffee ;)

This is the stuff, right here. I buy 3x at a time and go, "Hell yeah I just spent $50 on coffee."

My limit is not paying for coffee. I ONLY drink free.

It’s because I’m super interesting and value hot bean juice so low.

same, but my limit is 50 cents.

In some countries it is unacceptable, in other it might be a "normal" price

u/forbidden-bread Sep 10 '26

It is, it’s my upper limit. Usual coffee prices here are between 3€ and 4,50€

$8 Aussie dollars? Dreaming

If I have to pay more than $5.50 (€3.40) I'm walking out the door

1

u/NoFastpathNoParty Sep 10 '26

OP is ok with paying 7,31 € for his coffee.

if I see coffee served in stupid ass containers I'm not buying it because I already know it's way overpriced.
