Google Maps / AA Users... Rant, I Guess.

• Upvotes

For context, I run Android Auto via AA Wireless, and route navigation to Google Maps instead of Lyft's garbage navigation. This gives you live navigation on the car screen, and the Lyft overview map on your phone. For me, Google's GPS is accurate, while Lyft's map lags behind and I'll be past the pin before it say I'm there.

When I started, they actually had the Arrive button and shit built into Google Maps, which was nice. Then that button started getting fucky, and would work when it wanted to, leading me to use the phone for the buttons, no big deal. Then, the buttons in Google disappeared, which again was no big deal, I was already acclimated to using the buttons on the phone, which is still how I run.

This method will provide you better navigation, WHEN it works. Because with Lyft's stupid ass system, they take the pickup address, convert it into coordinates and then drop the pin there, and those coordinates are what it sends to Google, which sometimes is just like "TF is this?" and flakes out. How hard is it to just copy paste the address clearly displayed in the Lyft app into fuckin Google? Because of this, I also get a stupid ass pin in the middle of the street instead of it going to the side the house is on half the time.

But now, they've hampered it even more. You see, up until 2 app updates ago, the overview map on the phone while in this mode had the yellow pin for the passenger, now it's gone. It seems when you route the navigation to Google now, it no longer shows it by default. So now I have no idea where they may be, so I just go to the pickup pin and wait. I've had a few people start to complain about it, but I just explain the situation nicely while pointing to the phone like "Hey I'm sorry, they stopped showing where you are on the map" and if applicable I'll even politely backhand them with a "and there's no profile picture so I had no face to match up to look for you".

The weird part of all of this, I've had the pin show up TWICE since then. Both times it was passengers coming in on the Metra train, and both times they texted me with the "didn't know you'd be there so fast, I'm coming in on the next train!" (I always figure ahead of time and don't no show trains unless trains are delayed). Both times, the little yellow guy came teleporting in along the train tracks on the map. I've had others text before coming out since without and pin showing up.

If I run Lyft's shitty map through Android Auto instead of Google on the car screen, the yellow people show up still.

Rider Ratings, Sometimes They Don't Know

So I had a guy in the car, I've taken him a few times so it's normally more chilled as we've gotten comfortable with each other, you know the type, a modest tip, normal passenger, isn't gonna narc on you if a "shit" slips out in conversation, etc. So anyway, I'm driving along and the next one pops up, with a 4.0. I laughed out loud which prompted him to ask about it, so I explained it was a 4.0 rated rider as he leaned over and looked. He was like "Out of 10?" I'm like "No, out of 5", to which he replies "4 out of 5 isn't bad... wait, you guys rate us too?!" LMAO. So I explain that yes after every trip riders get rated by their drivers as well.

He asked what ratings I do I said 4.9 and 5.0, MAYBE a 4.8 if it's slow and the pay is okay. He panicked and asked what his rating was, I told him I thought it was 5.0 but he could check on his profile, which he did FAST, then audibly sighed with relief when he had 5.0 stars. Dude it's not THAT serious, lol.

Either way, it's funny some people don't know we also rate them. Perhaps that is how these people get ratings that low instead and sit there wondering what's taking so long to find a ride instead of adjusting their behavior. 4.0 is insane and the lowest I've seen on the app.

Time to vent

Nearly a month ago i told everyone i had been placed on hold but didn't know why. I eventually tried to log in and it let me in with the message: "we're reviewing your information on the allegation of driving Under the influence. You will receive an email to respond to in the near future. We know how valuable your time is".

It was the day after i had worked 12 hours at my real job- elem teacher and then driven home to wash dishes while waiting on a good ride to pop up.

Finally today, after not hearing a word in a month i decided to send a message on the help page. They reactivated my account without even asking my side of the story.

That means they took about $2,500 out of my pocket without even caring for the facts.

Advice/Question Potential Lyft Driver Here. Should I apply?

Hi guys,

I'm going to be getting a car soon and I am considering maybe joining Lyft as a driver. I'm thinking about going with a 2009-2011 Lincoln Town Car. What are your experiences driving for Lyft? Is the take-home pay worth the time, effort and gas money? How much does Lyft take? And finally, should I bother applying?

Thanks!

Advice/Question New Lyft Driver

I’ll start by saying I’m a retired Veteran living in South Texas. Inflation and rising costs have caused me to look for part time work. I’ve driven for Lyft before but that was years ago. How is it driving for Lyft in 2026? The thing I liked most about Lyft was that you work when you want and you answer to no one. Thinking about buying a used Toyota Corolla SE to drive. What’re your thoughts?

Rant/Opinion I’ve had it with medical transport rides

You know the ones- the ones where a third party has scheduled the ride for a patient, usually elderly and disabled to some extent. Yesterday I was sent to the wrong pick up spot on 3 different rides like this. One of them was with a man who could not speak clearly- he had the worst mush mouth/slurred words I’ve ever heard and the pick up spot was 3 blocks from where the app sent me. I was lucky that I actually had the customer’s number to call but I could not understand what he was saying to get to the right spot. I finally understood the word hospital and went to the main entrance on the off chance that’s where he was. And then they had had the wrong drop off address as well! At least then he was in my car and could just point the right way, but JFC! Whatever organization is booking these rides needs to get their shit together. It wasn’t the pax fault- he obviously had serious health issues and has had a stroke or something.

Advice/Question Anyone else glad this summer heat is finally leaving?

I personally am, but it's still around 75-85 degrees still. I will be glad when it really cools down and gets to real fall weather. Hopefully soon. The reason why is sometimes when I grind I will be out all day and sometimes I am not close to home and would like to park for a small nap. You can't do that in the boiling hell hot summer. It will be nice to just really grind all day and when I feel sleepy I can park and just sleep without needing to leave the A/C on with the car on. Also I feel more people use ridesharing in the fall and winter months.

Advice/Question Anybody else not seeing their ride earnings from today in their Lyft Direct Account?

Rides that I gave this afternoon are not showing up in my Lyft Direct account. I called support and they said that they were still "processing".

Said the money should show up soon but that was hours ago. Has anyone else seen this before?

Advice/Question Warning SF/Bay Area Drivers: Lyft changed the rules and will now ONLY pay ONE outbound toll per day, even with passengers!

Hey y'all, just wanted to put out a massive warning for anyone driving in SF or anywhere with multiple bridge crossings. Lyft has a sneaky new "rule" and they are actively robbing us on tolls.
I just had a shift where I crossed the bridge multiple times with an actual customer in my back seat each time. When I checked my earnings, they only reimbursed me for one single outbound toll.
I spent hours fighting support, escalated it all the way up to supervisors and managers, and they flat-out told me: This is their new policy. They said Lyft's new rules dictate they will only pay one outbound toll per day, period—even if you have a paying passenger in your car for the subsequent crossings.

So basically, if you take a second or third passenger across a bridge, lyft just pays you one time.
Check your earnings statements carefully, guys. This is completely unacceptable. Anyone else running into this new "one toll rule" yet?

I noticed that the bonuses appear somewhat away from me unless I wait right in the middle of the city, and even then it has the audacity to appear in the outskirts when I'm in the city.

To add insult, as soon as I drive close or enter the area it disappears before I can collect the bonus.

Rant/Opinion Account Permanently Deactivated (BULLSHIT!)

Post image
0 Upvotes

So Lyft deactivated my account because of a bogus "unsafe driving" complaint. When I asked for when it supposedly happened, they wouldn't tell me for "rider safety". I understand that, but how is one supposed to provide evidence refuting it if you don't know when it happened? Here is the email exchange between Lyft & me:

Dear Brooks,

I am writing to formally appeal the permanent deactivation of my account and to deny these allegations completely. I have not been speeding or using my phone while driving. My phone remains mounted on the dashboard at all times, making it impossible to use while I am actively driving. Furthermore, I have only received one speeding ticket in the past 15 years, which occurred in my personal vehicle long before I began driving for Lyft.

As there was no accident and no police were involved, there is no incident report or photographic evidence. Additionally, since I am driving a Lyft Express rental, I am unable to wire a dashcam into the vehicle.

I drive in and around Atlanta, GA, which is a high-traffic area with many aggressive drivers and frequent traffic jams. Consequently, there are times when sudden stops or swerving are unavoidable. I always strive to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles while driving at the speed of the surrounding traffic.

After losing my previous job of 25 years due to "government efficiency," Lyft is currently my only source of income. I would not do anything to jeopardize this opportunity. I take driver safety very seriously and do my best to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant experience for all of my passengers.

I hope that you will reconsider my permanent deactivation. Please let me know if there is anything more I can do to provide a better experience for my passengers.

Best regards,

XYZ

#################################

Hi XYZ,

My name is David and I am reaching out from Lyft regarding the current status of your deactivation appeal request.

Your account was deactivated on Monday, July 27, 2026 for alleged violations of Lyft’s Terms of Service (lyft.com/terms). Specifically, this feedback alleged you were swerving, speeding and driving in a distracted manner on the phone while driving during a Lyft ride.

We did not receive additional information from you in support of your appeal. After reviewing the allegations and your history on the platform, the decision was made to uphold the deactivation.

Please know that the decision to deactivate your account was made pursuant to Lyft’s Terms of Service. This decision will remain final and you will be unable to utilize the platform going forward.

Best,

Rant/Opinion We should support "No Tipping" and rather get together and force the Lyft/Uber to pay us 70% and keep 30% of the total ride earning rather than 45/55 split.

I am a Lyft/Uber driver in Chicago, my family's livelihood depends on this earning but with all due respect as much as I love to be tipped, it is "NOT" a mandatory thing, we provide service for the fee that we see upfront, punishing people for not tipping is like punishing us(drivers) for not driving them more than the app showed us. How would you like if someone gave you a bad review/ 1 star because you did not drove them a few miles extra than what they had selected as destination. we are taking our frustation out on the wrong person, Lyft/Uber company's make 50-55 percent of the total earning, while squeezing both the consumer and the drivers, you, I and all our fellow drivers should take this up with these giant corporations, imagine getting paid even 10-20 percent more on every ride your earnings would change drastically, and you wouldn't care about the tip anymore, you wouldn't have to cherry pick ride if you get paid 60-70 percent of the total ride earning, so kindly talk with fellow drivers and do something about holding the uber/lyft accountable rather than people who are taking the ride and already paying us.

Advice/Question What % of your rides tip?

I'm a new driver, and so far 4/25 have tipped (16%).

I thought it was mainly due to it being people getting picked up from work and me taking them home (so the assumption would be that they do this routinely = mainly not tipping). I guess this doesn't make it ok, but I could see that line of thinking.

But also the rides I picked up that were going out or coming home from a night out didn't tip.

This is all a bit surprising to me, since when I'm a rider, it's almost always because I'm going out and I tip probably 95% of the time.

What are your tip frequencies and thoughts?
