Resource PSA for Lyft drivers getting deactivated over false complaints
I’ve seen a bunch of posts here about drivers getting deactivated due to false passenger complaints, and then getting hit with a generic appeal denial. A lot of people think that’s the end of the road — but it’s not.
Lyft’s terms allow you to file for arbitration, which legally forces their team to review your case — not just some support rep reading from a script. It can actually get results.
I wrote up a step-by-step guide on how to file arbitration, if you're in that situation and want to push back: 👉 How to File Arbitration Against Lyft
Stay safe out there.

Resource I built a tool that helps deactivated Lyft drivers write their appeal.
I built a tool that helps deactivated drivers figure out and write their appeal. It's called Reinstara, and the Lyft page is here: https://reinstara.com/lyft-deactivation-appeal. The mods okayed me sharing it.
How it works: pick the reason from your notice, paste the email Lyft sent you, and tell your side. The free check shows what your appeal needs to say for your exact reason, what proof helps, where to file it, and your deadline. That's the part people usually spend a night on Reddit and TikTok trying to piece together, and half of what's out there is old or about a different app. If your case is thin, it tells you that too, before you've paid anything.
The check and the guides are all free: what to do while your account is on hold, what still works after a denied appeal, your state's rights. Paying is just an option if you want the full letter written from your facts. It's $34 once, with a free rewrite if Lyft says no, and there's a complete example at https://reinstara.com/example so you can see exactly what you'd get.
Nobody honest promises reactivation. This just makes sure the one appeal you get is the strongest version of your side. It never asks for your Lyft password, and you review and send everything yourself.
Feedback is welcome. If something's missing or your experience of the process was different, I'd love to hear it so I can make it better for the next driver.

Rant/Opinion I’ve had it with medical transport rides
You know the ones- the ones where a third party has scheduled the ride for a patient, usually elderly and disabled to some extent. Yesterday I was sent to the wrong pick up spot on 3 different rides like this. One of them was with a man who could not speak clearly- he had the worst mush mouth/slurred words I’ve ever heard and the pick up spot was 3 blocks from where the app sent me. I was lucky that I actually had the customer’s number to call but I could not understand what he was saying to get to the right spot. I finally understood the word hospital and went to the main entrance on the off chance that’s where he was. And then they had had the wrong drop off address as well! At least then he was in my car and could just point the right way, but JFC! Whatever organization is booking these rides needs to get their shit together. It wasn’t the pax fault- he obviously had serious health issues and has had a stroke or something.

Advice/Question Potential Lyft Driver Here. Should I apply?
Hi guys,
I'm going to be getting a car soon and I am considering maybe joining Lyft as a driver. I'm thinking about going with a 2009-2011 Lincoln Town Car. What are your experiences driving for Lyft? Is the take-home pay worth the time, effort and gas money? How much does Lyft take? And finally, should I bother applying?
Thanks!

Advice/Question New Lyft Driver
I’ll start by saying I’m a retired Veteran living in South Texas. Inflation and rising costs have caused me to look for part time work. I’ve driven for Lyft before but that was years ago. How is it driving for Lyft in 2026? The thing I liked most about Lyft was that you work when you want and you answer to no one. Thinking about buying a used Toyota Corolla SE to drive. What’re your thoughts?

Advice/Question Warning SF/Bay Area Drivers: Lyft changed the rules and will now ONLY pay ONE outbound toll per day, even with passengers!
Hey y'all, just wanted to put out a massive warning for anyone driving in SF or anywhere with multiple bridge crossings. Lyft has a sneaky new "rule" and they are actively robbing us on tolls.
I just had a shift where I crossed the bridge multiple times with an actual customer in my back seat each time. When I checked my earnings, they only reimbursed me for one single outbound toll.
I spent hours fighting support, escalated it all the way up to supervisors and managers, and they flat-out told me: This is their new policy. They said Lyft's new rules dictate they will only pay one outbound toll per day, period—even if you have a paying passenger in your car for the subsequent crossings.
So basically, if you take a second or third passenger across a bridge, lyft just pays you one time.
Check your earnings statements carefully, guys. This is completely unacceptable. Anyone else running into this new "one toll rule" yet?

Advice/Question Anyone else glad this summer heat is finally leaving?
I personally am, but it's still around 75-85 degrees still. I will be glad when it really cools down and gets to real fall weather. Hopefully soon. The reason why is sometimes when I grind I will be out all day and sometimes I am not close to home and would like to park for a small nap. You can't do that in the boiling hell hot summer. It will be nice to just really grind all day and when I feel sleepy I can park and just sleep without needing to leave the A/C on with the car on. Also I feel more people use ridesharing in the fall and winter months.

Rant/Opinion We should support "No Tipping" and rather get together and force the Lyft/Uber to pay us 70% and keep 30% of the total ride earning rather than 45/55 split.
I am a Lyft/Uber driver in Chicago, my family's livelihood depends on this earning but with all due respect as much as I love to be tipped, it is "NOT" a mandatory thing, we provide service for the fee that we see upfront, punishing people for not tipping is like punishing us(drivers) for not driving them more than the app showed us. How would you like if someone gave you a bad review/ 1 star because you did not drove them a few miles extra than what they had selected as destination. we are taking our frustation out on the wrong person, Lyft/Uber company's make 50-55 percent of the total earning, while squeezing both the consumer and the drivers, you, I and all our fellow drivers should take this up with these giant corporations, imagine getting paid even 10-20 percent more on every ride your earnings would change drastically, and you wouldn't care about the tip anymore, you wouldn't have to cherry pick ride if you get paid 60-70 percent of the total ride earning, so kindly talk with fellow drivers and do something about holding the uber/lyft accountable rather than people who are taking the ride and already paying us.

Advice/Question What % of your rides tip?
I'm a new driver, and so far 4/25 have tipped (16%).
I thought it was mainly due to it being people getting picked up from work and me taking them home (so the assumption would be that they do this routinely = mainly not tipping). I guess this doesn't make it ok, but I could see that line of thinking.
But also the rides I picked up that were going out or coming home from a night out didn't tip.
This is all a bit surprising to me, since when I'm a rider, it's almost always because I'm going out and I tip probably 95% of the time.
What are your tip frequencies and thoughts?

Advice/Question Anybody else not seeing their ride earnings from today in their Lyft Direct Account?
Rides that I gave this afternoon are not showing up in my Lyft Direct account. I called support and they said that they were still "processing".
Said the money should show up soon but that was hours ago. Has anyone else seen this before?

I don't want or need to see my driver's face after tipping
It's transactional, not personal. I rated and tipped you. Thank you for your service. Bye.

Rant/Opinion It's like this blob keeps moving away from me quite often.
I noticed that the bonuses appear somewhat away from me unless I wait right in the middle of the city, and even then it has the audacity to appear in the outskirts when I'm in the city.
To add insult, as soon as I drive close or enter the area it disappears before I can collect the bonus.

Other mystery Lyft interaction
I was sitting outside a Houston Cafe and on the phone when this lady driver pulls up on me and said my name. I said yes I am her, and she said she was my Lyft driver. I was so confused because i didnt order a Lyft and I told her that, and she said it was my picture on the Lyft request, but she never showed me proof. I just felt so bad in case I accidentally did order it, so I profusely apologized. she said it was okay and left. I looked at my purchase history for Lyft and haven't ordered one since two days ago, and I dont have a profile picture on my account. I went back into the cafe and told my friends and they said it sounded like possible trafficking? I just dont know how she got my name or picture if I never ordered it. Does anyone know how this could happen?

Rant/Opinion Just sharing..
Because I tend to see a lot of repeat Riders I have taken to rating a rider four stars until they tip that I will go back and add the fifth star that way when they come up again it says you gave this ride or five stars on your last ride I know I can expect the tip. Also if we all did that then we would know if they have a higher than four rating they typically sometimes this automatic five-star bullshit is horrible

Rant/Opinion Account Permanently Deactivated (BULLSHIT!)
So Lyft deactivated my account because of a bogus "unsafe driving" complaint. When I asked for when it supposedly happened, they wouldn't tell me for "rider safety". I understand that, but how is one supposed to provide evidence refuting it if you don't know when it happened? Here is the email exchange between Lyft & me:
Dear Brooks,
I am writing to formally appeal the permanent deactivation of my account and to deny these allegations completely. I have not been speeding or using my phone while driving. My phone remains mounted on the dashboard at all times, making it impossible to use while I am actively driving. Furthermore, I have only received one speeding ticket in the past 15 years, which occurred in my personal vehicle long before I began driving for Lyft.
As there was no accident and no police were involved, there is no incident report or photographic evidence. Additionally, since I am driving a Lyft Express rental, I am unable to wire a dashcam into the vehicle.
I drive in and around Atlanta, GA, which is a high-traffic area with many aggressive drivers and frequent traffic jams. Consequently, there are times when sudden stops or swerving are unavoidable. I always strive to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles while driving at the speed of the surrounding traffic.
After losing my previous job of 25 years due to "government efficiency," Lyft is currently my only source of income. I would not do anything to jeopardize this opportunity. I take driver safety very seriously and do my best to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant experience for all of my passengers.
I hope that you will reconsider my permanent deactivation. Please let me know if there is anything more I can do to provide a better experience for my passengers.
Best regards,
XYZ
#################################
Hi XYZ,
My name is David and I am reaching out from Lyft regarding the current status of your deactivation appeal request.
Your account was deactivated on Monday, July 27, 2026 for alleged violations of Lyft’s Terms of Service (lyft.com/terms). Specifically, this feedback alleged you were swerving, speeding and driving in a distracted manner on the phone while driving during a Lyft ride.
We did not receive additional information from you in support of your appeal. After reviewing the allegations and your history on the platform, the decision was made to uphold the deactivation.
Please know that the decision to deactivate your account was made pursuant to Lyft’s Terms of Service. This decision will remain final and you will be unable to utilize the platform going forward.
Best,

Advice/Question Looking to hear from drivers in the Knoxville/Gatlinburg TN area
I've used uber once, I simply don't need that sort of transportation. I'm more in the helping other people stage of life. Retired. Bored. Still got some giddyup. What's the current state of making money here? Are you simply depreciating your car, making a little extra and hoping you don't break down, or doing OK? Tough to sort through all the drama. Sounds like I should put a pet barrier during home games.
