MOC Mykonos Modular MOC
Sometimes inspiration strikes, this took me about 3 weeks with a few bricklink orders for the older shutter styled windows. Seeing the last picture in a Google search, I wanted the challenge of recreating the angular semi round features of the buildings and stairways. Overall I am happy with the results.

Stunning but it lacks of drunk tourists

And you will go to Mykonos
With a vision of a gentle coast
And a sun to maybe dissipate
Shadows of the mess you made

The detail of the exterior floors is sooo good. Very nice and accurate. Needs more cats 😺

seeing a legend of dragoon post outside of the specific subreddit is like finding a unicorn and bigfoot at the same time
your culture astounds me, well done

Wow. That really is incredible. It gives me hope that there are still such wonderfully talented and imaginative people. Well done you!

The plumes for door handles! AMAZING! I might borrow that idea in the future! 😁
2
u/StrangeLego MOC Designer 15d ago
I wanted contrast without a traditional stud/tile look. The plumes were leftovers from a floral project I had laying out and they worked great.

u/Meesayousa 14d ago
Great parts usage! 👍 Just too bad they're so rare and expensive in black and bluish gray 🙄 They would have been awesome to use as door handles on my hot rod MOCs 😁

What piece is used for those large shutters in the bottom right?
5
u/StrangeLego MOC Designer 18d ago
Part number 791 is a shutter door 1x3x5. It fits an older window frame 3761 used in 80s space command sets.

Cool I almost thought it was Duplo or Fabuland. Had to look twice after noticing it was bigger than the 4 stud version

Where’s the abused donkeys?! Only kind of /s.

Santorini is where the donkeys are abused. Mykonos is much lower to sea level, and is famous for windmills and being a party island. OP has done a fantastic job capturing the vibe, however. Kudos to them!

This is phenomenal!

u/No_Injury_1833 18d ago
Wait, also- what was first place? Cause if yours is this good, that must have been cool too.
2
u/StrangeLego MOC Designer 18d ago
I honestly don't know, I confess I was pretty self absorbed when I saw the Best in Show. Lol
2
u/No_Injury_1833 18d ago
Oh! I see it now. I noticed the red ribbon that must be on the set above yours and missed the giant Best in Show next to it. Congrats!

This might sound weird but this kinda reminds me of the Gerudo area in BOTW and makes me want to build a section of it lol. It’s super cool! You did an amazing job

This is amazing! I am so interested in doing MOCs but I have such little creativity that I don’t even know how to get started!
2
u/StrangeLego MOC Designer 18d ago
Gotta start somewhere... keep it small and grow. I find my inspiration and then go and see other AFOLs builds for the little things I want to incorporate. It gets messy and taken apart (alot, really) before I get the look and stability right.

Reminds me of this Greek guy I once met at a weird sales presentation for some paper company in Pennsylvania

I proposed to my wife on Santorini, and you best believe Mykonos was on that trip. This really encapsulates the feeling of where we stayed.

Seeing the shutters sent me back to the 80s playing with my brothers space legos! So cool and I love all the cats

Not trying to be rude or anything, but your reference Pic is NOT from Mykonos. It's from Amorgos another greek island with similar house design (most small greek islands have white houses with blue windows and doors). Still, this is amazing and I will for sure buy it if it becomes a set.

Beautiful. It's a little too much blue-and-white for me (even though I know it's supposed to be completely blue and white 🤣)

I wish the individual models weren’t so expensive because I would love to get like six or seven of them and build an entire village on the side of the hill

u/RandomFandom1073 18d ago
How does one acquire the right number of specific bricks to create an MOC of their own? Sigh. Anyway, very impressive build bro.

If you put some satellite dishes and make the blue parts trans blue, you turn it into a Futuron base.

There's a LEGO competition at the NM State Fair?
1
u/StrangeLego MOC Designer 13d ago
Yep, select Participate on the NM State Fair website and then select the Competitions section. It's in the Creative Arts section.
2
u/Fyrefrog25 13d ago
Aww, they're not doing it at the Southern NM State Fair. Not that I could enter, but it'd be cool to go see.
Well, congrats on your win. It is a beautiful design that really nails the aesthetic.
