Discussion "we love toph & katara, we don't hate korra because of misogyny." notice how they never mention lin or asami because they're not ATLA characters.they hate anything that isn't aang or related to his show, they always give ATLA characters free pass, alta fans just, hate tlok and its characters

Some people are so attached to the original show that they refuse to give its successor a fair chance

ATLA fans seem more interested in proving that ATLA/atla characters are superior than in appreciating what TLOK brings to the franchise

liking some female characters doesn't automatically mean you can't be misogynistic toward other female characters ,especially when the one you're hating is main character and especially when you're taking toph as an example (who act like boys all the time),and katara(who was hated At some point )

isn't korra fault that,she's aang

why is korra hated?

homophobia %25

misogyny 20%

korra actions 5%

not being aang 50%

Discussion Do yall think korra became chief of the southern tribe?

This is all fun speculation

However after season 2 of tlok we know that tonraq is the chief of the southern tribe

If we equal the south to the nothing the chief position is supposed to be a monarchy. It passes from parent to child.

In other words the sa e way yue was a princess so would korra

Again this is for fun but I do wonder what happened to the souther chief after tonraq died, especially given the theories on korra living a long lifetime

Id like to remind you that aang is the leader of the air nation. On top of that there is a fire avatar with the firelord crown within the past lives

In other words no one says that an avatar can't also be the leader of one singular nation

Again this is for fun ad we have very little proof of anything from the korra info we have. But what do yall think?

Discussion One thing I hated about fandom when I was watching it as it came out

Is them rusting not being specifically punished for a flaw as being rewarded which is a claim I see made about mako or korra saying show didn’t acknowledge his flaws when it did

Lok wasn’t moralistic or Aesops fables ( story https://www.tumblr.com/ikkinthekitsune/33107192935?source=share. this particular scene is supposed to be uncomfortable, actually.  The show doesn’t really support Korra or play the council page’s misfortune for laughs, even if it fails to punish Korra for her actions.  The viciousness of Korra’s behavior is allowed instead to speak for itself – she sees violence against the defenseless as an ideal outlet for her aggression and she physically assaults an old man as a result.
To be honest, The Legend of Korra as a whole is utterly non-moralistic, which throws everything out of whack if you try to read it in moralistic terms.  The expectation that the karmic balance of the universe will reassert itself in the end is subverted again and again.  Asami and Bolin, the two most morally-upstanding characters, gain nothing for being good; Tarrlok gains nothing for his attempt at moral resistance to his father but a life of suffering, corruption, and eventual suicide; Lin’s sacrifice for Tenzin and his family is rendered pointless; Korra is often punished for doing the right thing (getting a whole bunch of people hurt by going to the police with her suspicions about Hiroshi) while gaining advantages from problematic behavior (the downfall of Amon likely wouldn’t have been possible if she hadn’t tried to murder Tarrlok).  That the show doesn’t punish Korra for bullying the council page doesn’t imply that the show thinks it’s okay, because the show is completely uninterested in enforcing consequences for bad behavior if there isn’t a situationally-valid reason for that behavior to be punished.  Instead, it seems to trust that the viewers will make their own judgements about the behavior and just depicts it as-is, which can often be quite uncomfortable (with Tarrlok’s murder-suicide being another great example of how uncomfortable non-judgemental depiction of problematic behavior can be).
With that said, Korra is written as one seriously messed-up person*.  The narrative doesn’t ignore Korra physically threatening people – in fact, it quite consistently constructs a pattern of such behavior and provides a background that is entirely in line with that characterization.  Korra isn’t a perfect paragon of morality who just happens to react to frustration with violence (and sometimes unintentionally hurts others in the process).  Violence and control over others is at the very core of her being.  It’s the primary way in which she interacts with the world and defines her worth.  It’s why she’s so comfortable with force, intimidation, and manipulation, and so uncomfortable with anything else.  It’s why she can’t attain the selfless mindset needed to airbend.  It’s why she’s so reliant on her power as Avatar to give her identity that she believes herself to be worthless without it.
Taken as a whole, Korra’s need for power and control is portrayed as damaging to both herself and everyone around her.  Scenes like this one are less tacit support for the bad behavior of a hero than they are neutral depictions of the actions of a fundamentally-broken individual who holds too much power to be properly reprimanded (Korra later physically harasses Chief Saikhan in the middle of the police station without facing any legal consequences, because her Avatar status makes her just that untouchable).  That she fails to learn that lashing out at other people is bad within the first season is somewhat besides the point, because it’s a symptom of a much greater issue.  The lessons that she has to learn are much more fundamental – basic human decency and non-hierarchical self-worth – and in the end, they’re dealt with in rather flashy ways that work within the situations provided rather than enforcing moral lessons on Korra by authorial fiat.
* It’s very easy to resist such an interpretation on the grounds that similar arguments could be made in defense of some seriously problematic characters, like Edward Cullen or Eragon.  In Korra’s case, however, there’s no sense in which interpreting her as dangerously violent is reading against the grain.  The show isn’t trying to tell us that someone who is an emotionally abusive stalker is a perfect chivalrous boyfriend or that someone who viciously murders surrendering enemy soldiers respects all life.  Instead, it consistently links Korra with the villains – she wears her hair the same as Noatak did in his teenaged years and shares her muted Water Tribe color scheme with Tarrlok – and leaves her without a meaningful response when Tarrlok’s claims that they’re a lot alike.  Korra’s behavior, while often unpunished, is never excused, and The Legend of Korra only functions as a thematically-complete work if Korra isn’t meant to be a particularly nice person.

#The Legend of Korra
#Korra
#Council Page
#Non-moralistic fiction can be quite uncomfortable even as it's really interesting
#And it might not be the best choice for writing aimed at children
#But I much prefer the show the way it is
#Because the payoff is so much greater if Korra overcomes her issues without Karma interfering
#TW: Suicide
And lok was never Aesops fables

Discussion The statement of “And if she did do it, they deserve it” is so perplexing to me.

Post image

Ok, I’ll admit that I get it. The Korra fandom is kind of going through some psychosis thanks to Seven Havens, but can I just say that this is just absolutely the wrong takeaway from this whole situation.

I don’t know if this is a joke or something, but implying that the world deserved to be destroyed instead of considering that maybe she was in the wrong is ridiculous. And it just goes to show how some people just refuse to hold Korra and her group accountable.

I get it, everyone’s so used to defending Korra because she’s gotten tons of hate, but we can’t just ignore the fact that she did something wrong. Hell she’s done multiple things wrong, everyone in both TLOK and ATLA did something things wrong, and that’s what makes them so fascinating, they are complicated characters.

I have an issue with a sizable portion of this fandom constantly obsesses over the people hating on Korra over just… liking Korra, and in their own desire to defend her the absolve her of everything she’s done wrong, stripping her of her agency. And some people go as far as to slander ATLA, as if that will fix anything.

Discussion What's a character from the show that people love but you don't like or just hate?

Personally for me it's Opal. I don't hate her but I find her a little overhyped and a plot device to make Lin feel guilty about not forgiving Su and Bolin to question Kuvira more.

Other I love the show!

But my goodness this subreddit is full of people who want to pick fights. I am not leaving, this is not that kind of post. I just want to call on people to practice more kindness and reserve judgement. I am tired of being treated like scum for having a bad memory and frequently failing to recognise certain characters. I have a lot more going on myself than just being online. I consistently ask straightforward questions and people ask, “Are you stupid? Do you watch the show? You’re a total liar!”

Hello i wouldn’t be in this subreddit if i wasn’t a fan. I really don’t like how much negativity is here. It’s fast becoming a toxic subreddit like so many others that I used to love. I am not blaming mod team, it’s been pretty obvious to me that they do their best.

I think i’m just wondering where the compassion for your fellow redditor went. Are we all internet trolls now?

Signed, a ‘gran gran’ who wants to participate in discussion only if it is levelheaded and not cruel.

Humour my theory is that korra depleted the entire avatar cycle's rizz reserves and pavi is the next kyoshi

hearmeout

okay so basically korra has neg rizz and i have a theory explaining why

see every avatar has a certain amount of rizz accumulated by all their past reincarnations and hair is what channels that rizz

so when aang was bald he never had nearly as much rizz as when he had hair in the firenation

like bro grew hair and immediately rizzed up two girls probably paid sokka to say they look good together and when katara pouts he asks her for a dance and gets her to do a waterbending dance that only she and him can do (at least in the nearby vicinity) so she feels special and when she gets nervous because of the audience he tells her its not about them but only about you and me

THATS CRAZY RIZZ

meanwhile korra had hair her entire life and somehow managed to deplete ALL the rizz accumulated by every single avatar before her

kyoshi had so much rizz that her hair couldnt drain all of it so she was still aura farming like crazy

roku never had black hair on screen so we dont have enough evidence to judge him

yangchen was bald and had no rizz or sum according to my research so that also supports the theory although we need more evidence

now the important part is that rizz is not time independent

aang had rizz because korra hadnt depleted the ancestral rizz reserves yet and she only did that after aang died so his rizz was safe

but korra had negative rizz by the time she entered the avatar state so even though the avatar state gave her access to the rizz reserves it all cancelled out

and it only cancels out till that moment because korra kept accumulating negative rizz even after that

SHE DIDNT JUST GO BROKE SHE KEPT TAKING OUT LOANS

and the negative rizz debt transfers between reincarnations so the next avatar inherits all that debt

also toph could 100 percent 1v1 korra and win without breaking a sweat like the toph thats around 12 years old because that girl was built different and had enough aura to make up for not even needing rizz

and korra at full power still lost to an inexperienced airbender so imagine what airbending only aang could do against zaheer

yes korra was poisoned but she entered the avatar state and the whole point was that it made her strong enough to fight back while the poison was still killing her so she still couldnt finish zaheer before the poison took over

and now we get to pavi

pavi is only 9 so she currently has no rizz but thats not necessarily a bad thing because maybe shes going to be like kyoshi and start aura farming from scratch

the problem is that korra left her with an entire avatars worth of negative rizz debt and pavi has to start her life being hunted by basically the entire world

and the funniest part is that the world has literally regressed by the time pavi becomes the avatar because of the cataclysm and the state of civilization

so my theory is that korra depleted the ancestral rizz reserves and accumulated so much negative rizz that the next avatar inherits the consequences

but this is actually foreshadowing for pavi becoming like kyoshi

shes going to start with negative rizz and a world that hates her but eventually shes going to aura farm so hard that she becomes the next kyoshi and restores the ancestral rizz reserves

korra destroyed the avatar rizz economy and pavi is going to rebuild it

this is not just a theory its the avatar rizz theory

Discussion Essay About Why I Actually Hope Seven Havens Revisits Vaatu and Why It Feels Clear to Me That Vaatu, by His Very Nature, Would Be FAR More Prone to Character Development, Personality Change, and Growth than Raava Herself. Spoiler

Post image
7 Upvotes

For my fellow Legend of Korra fans specifically, the reason this whole Vaatu discussion interests me is that I think Seven Havens has a real opportunity to revisit one of Book 2’s most controversial ideas without simply pretending the original story was wrong.

Note that I am not arguing that Vaatu was secretly misunderstood or morally good during Korra’s era; the guy we saw was very clearly destructive, malicious, and willing to bring about catastrophic suffering. What interests me is the possibility that the newer lore is beginning to separate Vaatu the individual personality from the cosmic principles he embodies: Chaos, destruction, and now, by contrast with Raava, a necessary counterweight to order and creation.

That distinction actually feels pretty compatible with Korra’s broader approach to its antagonists. Amon, Unalaq, Zaheer, and Kuvira all championed ideas with at least some legitimate foundation be they equality, spirituality, freedom or unit, but they ended up pushing those ideas so far out of balance that they became destructive extremists. In short, to use a famous quote from pop culture, they lived long enough to see themselves become the villains.

In that sense, I think Vaatu could potentially be reexamined through the same lens: not because chaos and destruction are automatically “good,” but because they can still serve necessary purposes when order becomes stagnant, oppressive, or incapable of reforming itself. Book 2 Vaatu could therefore remain exactly as evil as we remember him while still representing a cosmic principle that has more philosophical value than “evil exists because the universe needs a bad guy.”

And that is really what I would love Seven Havens to explore if the Pavi/Nisha theories end up involving Vaatu somehow. I do not want a hard retcon saying that Vaatu was never really bad, and I definitely do not want Dark Avatar 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Instead, what I would love is a canon-compliant expansion: preserve everything LOK established, acknowledge that Vaatu had become catastrophically out of balance due to a variety of factors, and then ask what centuries of new circumstances, rebirth through Raava, and possible connection to a very different human Avatar could actually do to a spirit whose defining chaotic nature is, ironically enough, CHANGE.

More of my arguments and reasoning in the full text of the my essay I am reposting here.

Question Is it possible Bolin got Lava Bending through Harmonic Convergence?

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

I'm rewatching LoK now, and I've always thought that Bolin's lava bending was something that was inside him all along, but that he just needed to be tested and under pressure to activate it. Like a lot of people, I originally thought his being born of a fire and earth bender had something to do with him having the ability.

But on this watch, I started wondering: If Harmonic Convergence was powerful enough to give a bunch of non-benders air bending, then maybe it also could have given Bolin lava bending without him knowing until he was in a position to need to bend lava.

Part of my thought process is that Bolin admits that he's tried metal bending multiple times since learning about Toph (his hero) and has always failed. While metal bending and lava bending might be earth bending skills that can't coexist in one bender, they both seem to be high level bending skills that require looking deep within the substance you're bending to find or change something about its molecular structure (finding the earth still within the metal, or activating the energy and particles within the earth to transmute it into lava). If Bolin had the ability to learn to lava bend all along, might he have discovered that by accident during all of his private training to try and access his metal bending?

In the end, I still think it's more than likely a skill he was always capable of tapping into but never thought to try until he was faced with a wall of lava, but the fact that we see him activate the ability during the same season that we see a bunch of people get air bending is the kind of coincidence that can't help but to make me wonder if that correlation isn't also causation.

Discussion Korra fans, what are your hot takes about this series you love?

Post image
262 Upvotes

Okay so I intended for this post to be just my own hot take but realised I don't have much to say, so I'll make it about what YOU guys think, what are some of your hot takes and if you see a hot take from a fellow Korra fan you can give your opinions on it.

Since it's not really controversial to say that Book 2 should've been more about the politics of Civil War between Northern and Southern Water Tribes, I'll say that Avatar Wan story was pretty bad idea, mainly because in my view, the origins of bending and the Avatar should've been revealed gradually across multiple series, slowly knowing more and more about the origins of the Avatar cycle and the reveal being in a dedicated series.

Discussion Unalaq vs Mako & Bolin Reappraisal

Post image
265 Upvotes

Ok always see lots of lots of hate toward mako and bolin on how they performed against the water bender trio in book 2 but having just rewatched ATLA book 1

do ppl forget how useless firebenders were vs water benders at NIGHT in the NORTH POLE??? I think that is a huge factor in the fight ppl totally gloss over

it was practically 3 v 1 lol and Unalaq is one of the best water benders we’ve seen in the series imo

justice for the probender boys!! lol
