News ALLISON KING REVEALS NEW DETAILS ABOUT THE NOVELIZATION OF THE FILM AVATAR AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER.

Post image
152 Upvotes

Author Allison King shared some interesting information about the novelization of the film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. Check it out!

Allison revealed that she worked with F.C. Yee, the author of the Yangchen and Kyoshi novels, and that the two are close friends. She said she owes a lot to him, since it was Yee who recommended her to write the novelization.

In case there was still any doubt, Dante Basco confirmed that this new material will be part of Avatar canon. Allison also talked about the balance between writing as a fan and fulfilling her role as an author.

The book will feature several chapters narrated from the perspective of the Renegades, Tagah, and Team Avatar. We’ll also see how the characters reunited before arriving at Mount Baihu.

Allison King declared herself a big Azula fan and confirmed that the character will be mentioned “more times than she should.”

Suki won’t have any scenes of her own in the book, but Allison asked for permission to reveal where she was during the events of the film. Mike DiMartino approved the idea, so the characters will mention her throughout the story.

Discussion When looking back at Aang throughout the show, comics, movie and other media - how often did he showcase this quality of being an Air Nomad?

Post image
70 Upvotes

I ask because to me Yangchen makes this quality sound like not all air nomads were able to have it or learn it.

I also ask because to me Yangchen makes this quality sound it was more than just the simple sitting and meditating that Aang would do throughout the franchise.

Idk maybe I'm just seeing more than what it is, especially when Kavik points out that Yangchen is probably exaggerating when she says this. Still though I'm curious on your thoughts.

Discussion One thing you would change from each of the novels? Spoiler

Rise of Kyoshi: hardest one tbh, maybe I would have liked to see more of Jianzhu’s noble side. I think he ultimately was a good person at one point and the pressure just drove him to extreme actions that were unjustifiable.

Shadow of Kyoshi: would love to have utilized Rangi more. Always kinda bothered me the way she just sort of gets left behind by the story, she’s just there.

Dawn of Yangchen: maybe less Kavik and more Yangchen. Not that I have anything against kavik, but it’s Yangchens book and she’s basically a side character

Legacy of Yangchen: kinda goes for both books, but I thought her issue of randomly being overtaken by past lives was really underutilized. Had a lot of potential and I think it only comes up once in this novel.

Reckoning of Roku: not needlessly killing off Malaya just so the plot has some weight. Unfortunately she was the most interesting character in the book and her death is just frustrating and unnecessary.

Haven’t read awakening

Discussion Which story would you most want to see continued?

Post image
107 Upvotes

Weirdly enough, despite being my least favorite, I'd be most interested in a continuation of the Roku novels. I feel like their's still a lot of potential for stories leading up to the Air Nomad genocide. The escalating cold war makes it rife for intrigue and conflict between and amidst the nations until it all implodes.: 1. I'd love to see Roku's dynamic with his other sifus as he masters the elements, becomes more worldly, and overcomes his imposter syndrome. We could see him and Makituq bond with the dragons while dealing with dark spirits. In the EK, he may cross paths with Langzi and butt heads with Jialun - especially in the wake of his plot to poison Omashu. Roku may try to track down the missing sages, forcing his team to fight the Dai Li. The Northern Passage conflict could be a great way to show Roku's growth into a diplomat and Avatar of all nations after developing a network like Yangchen's. 2. Since Gyatso's the 1st leader of the F&A center of learning, he probably ended up clashing with the Guiding Winds, and it would be cool to see him dealing with the different philosophies amongst Air Nomads and Fire Nationals, potentially setting him down the path of becoming a White Lotus (That way we could see what they were up to during this era.). If the story continued past Roku's death, it would be poignant to see Gyatso's headspace after losing Roku and up to the genocide. From the dream he has in ROR of the future, it seems he was out looking for Aang before arriving at the Southern Air Temple being attacked. We could see the genocide from his pov and his last stand, it would be even more tragic if Sozin personally led the attack on the Southern Air Temple and we saw their final confrontation. 3. Ta Min has to navigate the royal courts vipers nests as a diplomat/spy trying to help as many people as possible, even using her marriage to the Avatar as political clout. It would be especially tense during Omashu and Ba Sing Se's shadow war as well as Sozin's consolidation of power. 4. Sozin's descent needs to feel earned and systemic. We could see him improving the quality of life for commoners by dismantling the resource-hoarding clans and centralizing the throne to prepare the FN amidst industrialization. We could see how this impacts the spirits and what the others nations responses are. We know the Water Tribes avoided it for the sake of tradition and spirits, but it hindered their capacity to defend themselves later on. To pacify the final defeated clan, Sozin might even politically marry into them. To Sozin, his sister's ideals leave the FN weak to foreign aggressors (like Jialun and Skiri) who are gearing up for war. 5. The Guiding Winds story needs to be fleshed out. Sozin and Zeisan have to 4D chess their way into undermining the other’s political power as as every character take sides in the conflict, fearing Roku's intervention. Sozin fears Roku's morality and connection to the Air Nomads would lead him to support Zeisan whilst she fears Roku's connection to the aristocracy and friendship with Sozin would lead him to crush her movement. The turning point could be if Zeisan’s faction accidentally insighted violence that resulted in the death of Sozin’s wife and unborn child. This hardens Sozin, turning him against the idea of a family for decades and leads Roku to ultimately side with Sozin, crushing Zeisan's movement. This would make Sozin more sympathetic to the public and end any chance of peace between the FN and AN, leading to Sozin's use of propaganda to get the FN to view the AN as a threat that must be wiped out. 6. They could even take elements from NATLA, with the earthbender (Langzi?) who gets FN plans to attack the EK (perhaps utilizing intelligence smuggled by the White Lotus or Ta Min), before it's discovered to be a ruse and that the true plan's to attack the AN

Discussion Technically & Traditionally speaking, the Air Nomad council of elders were kind of in the right to want to separate Gyatso and Aang, since such close friendships and relationships hurt their philosophies of detachment.

Discussion A Question I Have Regarding Things That Can Make Certain Types Of Bending Easier For Fresh Beginners

Post image
29 Upvotes

As stated in the episode ‘Old Wounds’, Zaofu has meteorites that have a special property that makes them easier for beginner level Metalbenders to metalbend them. And, as stated in Chapter 9 ‘Desperate Measures’ of The Rise Of Kyoshi novel, the Fire Nation uses a thing that is made from shredded birch bark, cotten and mixed with some special oils to make it easier for the tinder to light to test if a Fire Nation citizen is a Firebender which means that, for the Firebenders among them, it makes it easier for their beginner level firebending.

Is there anything like those in The World Of Avatar according to Avatar lore or in real life according to real life science that would make it easier for beginner level Airbenders, beginner level Waterbenders or beginner level Earthbenders to bend?

Meta The Current Avatar Renaissance may be giving the Chronicles novels a nice sales boost: Every released book is now in Amazon’s Top 29 for its category as of October 12th, 2026

I got curious about this last night after thinking about just how much Avatar stuff has been happening at once lately: Avatar: Seven Havens finally premiering, The Tempest of Sonam being announced as the next Chronicles of the Avatar novel, the Yangchen Collector’s Edition coming out, and last but not least, The Legend of Korra returning to graphic-novel trilogies with The Long Game. And that's not even counting the soon-to-be-released junior and full-version Avatar Aang movie novelizations, the Visual Dictionaries to come, or the Kyoshi Warriors Volume One comic book series release that arrives in less than a month.

So I decided to check how the existing Chronicles books were doing on Amazon right now, and then tried to dig up whatever current and historical sales-ranking data I could find from publicly available sources online. I’ll also be uploading screenshots of today’s Amazon rankings with this post, partly so we have a dated record to compare against later. So here is what I have found, with bold emphasis where I found it most relevant:

The current snapshot is honestly pretty encouraging. As of October 12, 2026 all six released Chronicles of the Avatar novels are within the Top 29 of Amazon’s “Teen & Young Adult TV, Movie & Video Game Adaptations” bestseller category.

1. The Rise of Kyoshi is at #10.

2. The Shadow of Kyoshi at #21.

  1. The Dawn of Yangchen at #24.

  2. The Awakening of Roku at #25.

  3. The Legacy of Yangchen at #28.

  4. The Reckoning of Roku at #29.

Even the newly announced The Tempest of Sonam, which doesn’t release until July 2027 in about 9+ months and doesn’t even have its finished cover yet, is already sitting at #32. So, seven Chronicles books currently occupy seven of the first 32 places in that category.

The one that really caught my attention was The Rise of Kyoshi. This book came out all the way back in 2019, yet it is currently the highest-ranking Chronicles novel at #10. More interestingly, I found an older Amazon-derived listing from roughly two months ago that had it at around #46 in the same category. That would mean it has climbed about 36 places since that snapshot. Obviously, an Amazon rank is not the same thing as raw unit sales, so we can’t say “sales increased by X percent,” but a seven-year-old novel moving from roughly #46 back into the Top 10 is a pretty striking sign of renewed activity around the book.

There are some smaller short-term signs that I was able to find elsewhere too. An Amazon-derived snapshot for The Dawn of Yangchen from only about five days ago had it at roughly #32, compared with #24 today. That happens to fall right around the release of the Yangchen Collector’s Edition and the premiere of Seven Havens, which makes the timing pretty interesting. At the same time, the historical data also shows why we should be careful about reading too much into individual positions: The Legacy of Yangchen, for example, has apparently bounced from around #150 several months ago, to as high as #14, and is now #28. Reckoning of Roku also seems to have moved around quite a bit recently. Amazon category rankings can be volatile and influenced by countless factors, after all.

That is also why I don’t think we can honestly say yet that Seven Havens specifically caused all of this. Amazon’s rankings are relative to other books in the category, and recent buying activity is weighted heavily, so they can move quickly. We have also had several overlapping Avatar events in a very short period: the Seven Havens marketing and premiere, the new Yangchen edition, the Sonam announcement, the Korra-centric news about The Long Game, and generally a lot more franchise attention than usual. What I think the data does support is a more cautious but still pretty exciting notion: the idea that we may be seeing a broader Avatar “halo effect,” with renewed franchise attention spilling back into the older books.

And honestly, Tempest of Sonam may be one of the more encouraging parts of the whole picture. It was only announced very recently, barely a week ago; it won’t actually release until July 20, 2027; it has no reviews yet, and its Amazon listing is still using a placeholder cover. And yet, it is already #32 in this category due to all the pre-orders. I wouldn’t call that a “sales success” before the book is even out, obviously, but it does look like a respectable level of very early preorder interest.

This also means the oldest Chronicles novel is currently sitting at #10 more than seven years after publication, while the newest one is already charting roughly 9+ months before release, which is a pretty nice illustration of how much life there still seems to be in this book line.

Still, for now I’d call this good news with an asterisk rather than definitive proof of a sudden sales boom. The strongest historical evidence I found so far is Rise of Kyoshi apparently moving from around #46 to #10, while the broader current picture shows every released Chronicles novel clustered inside the Top 29 at the same time.

That certainly looks consistent with renewed interest during this current Avatar renaissance, even if we can’t isolate exactly how much comes from Seven Havens versus all the other announcements happening around it. And that is also why I’m saving and posting today’s screenshots: if we keep checking these rankings over the next few weeks and months, we’ll have an actual dated baseline to compare against instead of having to reconstruct everything after the fact.

So yeah, just wanted to share this bit of good news that seems to be at least partially tied to the string of story announcements we have gotten recently, since I have been more optimistic than usual about the future of the Avatar Legends franchise as of this past week than I have been in many years. And just in case any of you want to verify the sources I used to back my claims, here they are down below:

---

EDIT: City of Echoes deserves a mention too:

Thanks to u/Zacsen76 for reminding me to check the stats for Judy I. Lin's Avatar Legends: City of Echoes. It's currently further down the same Amazon category than the Chronicles books, at #84, but I found an Amazon.com product-page snapshot crawled roughly three weeks ago that had it at #118 in this exact category. So it has actually climbed 34 positions and moved back into the Top 100 during roughly the same period.

That doesn't prove Seven Havens caused the increase, but it is another encouraging sign that the recent uptick in Avatar book interest may extend beyond the Chronicles of the Avatar series itself. City of Echoes also originally made the New York Times YA Hardcover bestseller list after its July 2025 release. Screenshot of that place in the rankings as of October 12, 2026, in the subsequent link: https://postimg.cc/hJrpgGnS

Creative My Eighth Grade CYOM Essay about the Creation of the Flying Bison and Air Nomads

LOL I KINDA SUCKED AT WRITING BACK THEN.

Long before the Air Temples sat on the pinnacles of the world and the rise of the Four Nations, lived Avatar Aido of the Fire Islands. Nearly nine thousand years before the Air Genocide, Aido was the most important Avatar who was never fully realized. Though he mastered Earth, Water, and Fire beyond any Avatar for millennia, and mastered a power unknown to almost every Avatar ever, Aido never once airbent.

In his youth, Aido was one of the first combustion benders and ended the Second War of the Fire Islands between the Keohso and Saowon. On his first day of battle at Ma'inka Island, Saowon warriors whipped members of his family into the raging sea. Enraged, Aido rose in a firespout and unleashed combustion blasts so powerful that the Saowon capital was destroyed, forcing their surrender in fright of the Avatar.

After this, Aido accepted his Avatarhood and went west to learn airbending. Instead, he found something far more terrible. The Western Sea was consumed by the First Immortal Storm.

Entering a spiritual communion with his Water predecessor, Avatar La, Aido learned the truth: during a famine, a desperate monk consumed the Second Ocean Spirit. In a fit of rage and grief, the First Ocean Spirit abandoned the Spirit Oasis and became a monstrous force of nature. Avatar La attempted to calm the spirit by merging with it, but the union failed. The spirit's rage corrupted La, while La's presence magnified the spirit's power, trapping part of La's spirit within the storm. For thousands of years, this immortal storm devastated the Air Territory until the airbenders went extinct.

Determined to save the element, Aido ventured into the storm's eye and found the last Air Lion Turtle, who used its remaining life force to gift him energybending. When he returned to Shuhon Island, his mother told him that in ancient times, this power gave people bending. After trying to airbend for two years, Aido gave up. He traveled the world for three years, mastering Water and Earth beyond any master of his era. He learned sandbending, vapor manipulation, and dust stepping to compensate, yet he still could not airbend.

During an attempt of chi-changing on the coast, Aido accidentally merged a bison-beaver and a manatee-beaver into a new furry, flappy-tailed mammal. After watching the creature soar away, Avatar Aido noticed matching arrow-like scars on their chi paths and realized he had granted the creature airbending.

Seeking answers, Aido found a wild herd of bison-beavers. He gathered ten of each species and entered the Avatar State, fusing the twenty animals into ten new hybrids. To test his limits on a human, Aido used his powers on Panujjan, the most disciplined person he knew. A blinding green chi-changer erupted, granting Panujjan the ability to put martial arts into elemental use.

Now knowing he could rebuild an entire civilization, Aido traveled to mountain regions to establish safe-guarded fortresses for the new population. He built farms and gardens so the people would never starve, and employed experts on Air Culture to enrich the new Air Peoples with tradition. After this, Aido found 1000 of the best fighters, sages, and most peaceful people, gathering them at the Spirit Oasis in the Water Territory. For months, he taught them the values and traditions of the lost Air Territory, preparing them for a future they would build without him. In his final feat, Aido entered the Avatar State. Spears and constructs of spiritual and chi energy erupted around him, slowly rewriting the chi paths of the thousand people gathered in the oasis. As energy flowed from person to person, powerful gusts of wind circled the waters. When the last current of energy left his body, Aido collapsed. He died knowing he had fertilized the soil for the seeds with the greatest potential, and that air would live on long after he was gone.

Aido’s death was not in vain. Those he transformed into airbenders became the ancestors of the modern Air Nomads, and they created many customs used for the next 10,000 years. From his connection to the sky, the first sacred air temples were constructed upon the highest peaks, and the majestic sky bison were born to guide his chosen people. The sky bison had arrows reminiscent to those of Aido’s scars, and the Airbenders honored him by tattooing masters with the same arrows. For the rest of the existence of the Air Nomads, elders will teach that every sky bison scaling the sky carries a part of Aido's final gift, and that every Air Nomad arrow points back to the boy who could never airbend, yet saved airbending itself.

Discussion Do you guys like the backstory the shadow of kyoshi gave kuruk?

There’s a new kuruk show coming out and I’ve been seeing some people complain that he was “retconned” into being this selfless heroic avatar when he was originally supposed to be a lazy bum who got his wife’s face stolen. And I was just wondering the opinion of the people here, do you like kuruk’s backstory in the kyoshi novels? Or do you prefer how he was before the book released.

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

“In a time before the Four Nations existed, the young Avatar Sonam must reluctantly step into the spotlight and face a catastrophic threat.”

“Thousands of years before Aang’s era, benders are not divided by nations but thrive in a world made up of many different tribes. It is the golden age of the Air Nomads, and one of their own is the current Avatar: Sonam.”

“At only seventeen, Sonam is already an accomplished warrior and a revered heroine, known for protecting the innocent from raiders. Although her noble mission and charisma have won her many followers, she hates the attention. She won’t even allow the growing feelings between her and her loyal companion, the rebellious Prince Fulung of Ba Sing Se, to interfere with her work.”

“But a larger conflict arises in the form of the Four Pillars, a powerful organization shrouded in secrecy. Although the Pillars claim to want peace, their actions say otherwise, tearing clans and families apart. Worse still, they employ a dangerous firebender named Asiong, who will apparently stop at nothing to achieve the group’s goals.”

“Fulung sees merit in the Four Pillars’ vision, but Sonam isn’t so sure. And when they discover that Asiong has a special interest in tracking down those who practice energybending—a lost art with untold power to either heal or harm—Sonam knows she cannot stand idly by. She must carefully choose her path to do right by the people who depend on her… no matter what that decision may cost her.”

From New York Times bestselling and National Book Award-nominated author Randy Ribay.

HIGHLIGHTED THEMES:

  1. The book is set more than 5,000 years before Aang, before the Four Nations.

  2. Ba Sing Se is mentioned — the ancient underground city.

  3. Focus on energybending.

Discussion I did not enjoy the first kyoshi novel

So I’m reading all the avatar novels in order of the avatar cycle and I am just finishing the first kyoshi novel after THOROUGHLY enjoying the Yangchen novels. I knew this novel was about her early life as the avatar but I’m not going to lie and say that I fully enjoyed the journey. The length of the novel compared to the amount of world building that’s actually in it is unbalanced in my opinion. I find certain scenes dragging for way longer than they need to. I love Kyoshi and I LOVE avatar but I feel like this book should’ve been the length of the yangchen/ second kyoshi book.

Discussion I do think it is funny how despite being established that the Avatars are usually told they're the avatar when they turn 16. Most of the Avatars especially the ones before Aang and Korra we see (Outside of Avatar Roku.) are the ones being told earlier and now Kuruk is going to be join to that club?
