Food and Cuisine Fermented Lebanese Olives

Post image

  1. soak cracked olives in fresh water for two days to debitter them.

  2. 10% salt brine (of the water weight) with lemon slices & green chilli pepper + any aromatics of your choice.

  3. they're ready to eat at 3-4 weeks. and can keep fermenting for up to 2-3months.

Cool fact: traditionally to measure 10% of salt, they used to put an egg in the water and keep adding salt until the egg floats since scientifically eggs float at 10%-12%.

(Fi more than a way to preserve olives, do you know other methods?)

Politics Question: Is there any benefit to this General Amnesty law?

Been hearing two sides to this, but honestly. The fact that I saw the post that Dr. Food was released because of this law (unsure if that was true), makes me wonder.

How does this law help at all? Why are people for this? Why are people against this?

Would love to hear thoughts.

News Articles Hezbollah Told to Prepare for ‘Imminent’ War

According to the Emirati news website Iram News, Iran is mobilizing its regional terrorist proxies and preparing them for a possible escalation of hostilities with Israel and the United States.

Unlike in the previous conflict, Hezbollah is reportedly preparing to adopt a decentralized combat system that would allow its forces on the ground to operate independently, even if Israeli strikes its senior leadership or cuts communication with central command.

Preparing for a possible escalation, the Iranian regime is not just funding its proxies and supplying weapons but also overseeing their military reconstruction and coordinating their readiness to ensure they can continue operating even if Iran’s senior leadership and military infrastructure come under attack, preventing a crippling blow to Tehran’s regional network.

Even with these efforts, experts note that Hezbollah has not necessarily regained its former military capabilities or its ability to shift the balance of power in the region. Rather, the move toward decentralized command is an attempt to address weaknesses exposed by Israeli operations.

For this special report, Beirut correspondent Nada Maucourant Atallah conducted interviews with officials, examined government statistics, studies and testimonies to uncover how a largely unregulated industry has been lining the pockets of high-ranking officials and neighbourhood generator owners.

There is a video report also.

Discussion Salut the effort that is in place for the digitial transformation

We are seeing notable progress in digital transformation within government entities. However, we still hope that payments will become fully digital, allowing transactions through wallets and credit cards. This would help reduce cash embezzlement and limit the unfair semsar practices that distort the process.

On another note, why should we build an application instead of a website, given that we would end up with thousands of apps on our phones just to purchases ( toters , nok nok , Zara .. ) and for entities

Help / Question Framework laptops

Will they ever be imported here in the near future, including all the spare parts? I really love and support their mission towards modularity, DIY, and accessibility of repair in laptops. I'd be glad to see them introduced in our tech & computer market. The company ships internationally through fedex, so idt there should be any issues with shipping to Lebanon.

Help / Question Should I accept this job?

They offered me an opportunity for an admin position combining HR and accounting, which interests me. However, it requires visiting government offices and banks to follow up on paperwork. The thought of running around and waiting in queues makes me anxious.
They are waiting my answer to tell me the offer and the salary if i accepted that.
Without that part, I’d be happy to take the job.
Would you accept it or keep looking?

Hi all,

I’m desperately and urgently looking for Prolutex medication but it seems to be out of stock at every pharmacy I call. The company/supplier said they will only have it back next week. Does anyone know of any pharmacy that might still have an old stock by any chance?

Thank you!

Discussion Health Insurance in Lebanon

Hey! My parents don't have a "daman" or any health insurance, and I wanted to get a rough idea of how much it would cost to get one.

I'm not trying to get a quote now, but I want a rough estimation kind of.

My mom is in her 50s and my dad is in his 60s, so I'm thinking maybe 2500$ aproximately? It also depends on their current health as well, ik. :)

Do you also have maybe a recommendation or suggestions for some insurances? Do you know if there are any potential discounts as well?

Discussion Israeli ambitions in southern Lebanon predate Hezbollah. That history belongs in the “who started it?” debate

Every new escalation produces arguments about who started the war. Identifying who initiated a particular round of fighting matters. But treating that moment as the beginning of the entire conflict leaves decades of history outside the discussion.

There is documented evidence that influential Zionist and Israeli leaders considered acquiring territory in southern Lebanon long before Hezbollah existed. So why do we forget that even if Hezbollah started a round, today or tomorrow, the Zionists down South see our land as something promised to them.

1919: A formal Zionist proposal included territory in southern Lebanon.

The Zionist Organization’s submission to the Paris Peace Conference placed the proposed northern boundary of Palestine:
“in the vicinity south of Sidon”
The document then describes its route inland. This was a concrete boundary proposal by the organised Zionist movement, before Israel’s establishment. It included territory that became part of Lebanon.

1955: Moshe Dayan discussed annexation up to the Litani.

Avi Shlaim’s The Iron Wall, drawing on Moshe Sharett’s diary, records Dayan proposing intervention in Lebanon and the establishment of an allied Christian regime:
“The territory from the Litani southward will be totally annexed to Israel”
This was a proposal within Israel’s leadership. Nevertheless, the territorial ambition is explicit.

1956: Ben-Gurion proposed expansion into southern Lebanon at Sèvres.

At the secret discussions preceding the Suez War, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion outlined a wider regional reorganisation that included Israeli expansion to the Litani and a smaller Christian Lebanon.
Historian Avi Shlaim documents this proposal and the French preference to concentrate on the immediate campaign against Egypt. It was not adopted as the final agreement.

Then there is the record of military action.
1968: Israel attacked Beirut’s civilian airport. The UN Security Council unanimously condemned the operation in Resolution 262. Resolution text. (refworld.org)
1978: Following a Palestinian attack inside Israel, Israeli forces invaded southern Lebanon. The Security Council established UNIFIL and called for withdrawal. UN historical account. (research.un.org)
1982–2000: Another Israeli invasion was followed by a prolonged occupation of part of southern Lebanon. Hezbollah emerged in the context of that occupation, with Iranian support. Historical background. (cfr.org)

The record supports a serious argument without those exaggerations: this is a longstanding conflict with successive wars, occupations, withdrawals and renewed confrontations. The latest opening attack is one part of that history. It cannot substitute for the whole of it.

All in all, Israel started this the moment it came to existence under an extremist expansionist ideology, there is no escape, especially for people living in the South. As a Lebanese, we are supposed to defend our land, not have the northerners sit and watch the southerners suffer, as has always happened pre-Hezb, and then attack and bash them for rising up, as is happening.

A Lebanese Muslim is much closer to a Lebanese Christian than a Zionist would ever be.

Dispute the interpretation. Check the sources. But an explanation of responsibility that leaves this history out is incomplete.

I know this is near impossible but what does asking hurt? I found this page talking about families' lineages in Koura and coastal villages in North Lebanon during the Shahabi rule and I'm dying to know the book's name. I've searched a lot but never found it so if anyone has any idea what the book's name could be I would be extremely grateful
