The suspect and his family are related to me (for safety, I can’t disclose the familial relation)
A psychopathic guy entered an elderly neighbor’s house and hit him on the head with a mug. The elderly man (victim) was brought to the hospital in critical condition, with a 50/50 chance of survival. This happened seven days ago, and he still has not woken up.
Right after the incident, the suspect’s family tried to surrender him to the police, but the police did not accept him because of his mental disorder. They said they could not arrest him because of that. They asked the DSWD for help, and the DSWD advised them to go to the province’s public hospital for medical advice for the suspect.
However, the line for the psychiatric ward was too long, and there was also a long waiting list. The hospital mentioned na tawagan na lang sila if may slot na. They had no choice but to bring the suspect home, even though they were nervous that they might be his next victims.
The suspect’s family has been helping the victim’s family with medical expenses and has already given ₱12,200 so far. They are also poor and do not have the financial capacity, but they are trying their best to help because their family member caused the problem.
Now, the suspect’s family is trying to reach out to the victim’s son because communication over the past few days has been through the son’s wife. The son (which has direct relation to the victim) has not spoken to them.
The suspect’s family is asking the victim’s family to settle the feud at the barangay. However, the victim’s family is refusing and is asking for more money, saying: “wala kami dito sa hospital if not for your mentally-challenged child”
Binabayaran ng suspect family ang pamasahe to and from the hospital, food and even allowance ng mga apo na nag-aaral. If mag settle sa barangay naman, need bayaran ang whole day na sweldo ng victim’s son, as well as the food and fares of the three people staying at the hosp and caring for the victim.
The suspect’s family is willing to surrender their son and is still willing to help in any way they can, even if financially challenged din sila, but they want to do it in a legal way, may areglo sa barangay or what to avoid physical retaliation in the future.
However, the victim’s family is refusing to settle and keeps asking for money.
The suspect’s family has run out of resources to meet the daily demands, so they want to agree, once and for all, on how much money the victim’s family needs for his recovery. They are still willing to send their son to jail.
What steps can they take? They feel hopeless now, and due to mental pressure, the matriarch is thinking about killing or poisoning their son because they are afraid he might hurt them in the future.
Or they are thinking of making a selda sa labas ng bahay nila because the mental facilities even the LGU cannot offer help.
Tatlo PWD sa pamilya ng suspet: one is psychopathic, one has cerebral palsy, and one has heart failure. Lahat nakamaintenance kaya nauubos ang resources at this time.
Any thoughts where una makakalapit? Or kapag ba ayaw mag settle ng family ng biktima, the suspect needs to pay for the damages hanggang kelan gusto ng biktima?
