I understand liking the feeling of the phone naked as well, but it’s a 1200+ investment. Put a damn case on it.
41
u/George_GIass 25d ago
It's the antithesis of an investment actually.
10
u/Alternative-Pay2946 25d ago
Well, loosely speaking it’s an investment into quality of life or whatever it’s being used for.
7
u/Izan_TM 25d ago
that's not an investment, it's an expense. I wouldn't call paying $15 a month for netflix an "investment into your entertainment"

The amount of stuff I can do on a device like this vs. some crappy lesser phone, even an iPhone from 5 years ago, is worth it. I tend to upgrade every 3 to 4 years or if the timing/ deal is right. These things generally pay for themselves unless you only use it to doom scroll or consume. And I was planning on waiting another year to upgrade, but AT&T is handing out $1200 trade credits for 15 Pro Max and newer, so it's like a no-brainer.

u/ClearlyJacob18 25d ago
Shit, I paid 1100 for my 15PM and just got 1200 for it. So kinda an investment?
→ More replies (15)5
u/George_GIass 25d ago
No. You're paying your carrier a higher monthly rate than if you were to just buy it outright and sign up for an mvno like mint, total wireless, or US mobile. It's all smoke and mirrors.

u/Black_-Hippie 25d ago
Especially when the phone is barely an upgrade over the last 3 or 4 . What are they doing adding 10 megapixels to the camera every year ?

especially the people who say “i don’t use cases, because i like how my phone feels without one” 🙄

They can do so, but then they don't have anyright to complain about scuffs, scratches, dents, etc.

they aren’t putting cases on. thats why. 😭 unless they do have a case and the keep dropping it.

u/PixieRoar 25d ago
There's two types of people in this world people that drop their phones and people that don't..
sadly a lot of people that purchase phones on day one happen to be one of those people that drop their phones 😆

u/MikeTidbits 25d ago
I dropped my phone once, it was an honest accident. The screen protector shattered. I just put a new screen protector on it and it was good as new.
Y’all need to take care of your stuff and respect your money and put a case and screen protector on it.
You can enjoy the feeling of the naked phone when you’re at home and safe on your cushy bed.

I never dropped my phone until I was recording a video and the person next to me flailed their arms out, bumping my arms and my phone slams down onto concrete. I’ve never been caseless ever since that over 10 years ago.

I’ve had an iPhone since the 3GS came out. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve dropped one and none of them caused any damage.

Doesn’t happen with a case on it :) I’ve had the iPhone 17 in a case the whole time I’ve had it and no damage to it at all. Considering it’s the same material I can’t see the 18 being much different. All these people are doing all this for the clicks and they know they don’t have a case on them
9
u/kenkenner151 25d ago
Same here. I’ve used a Bullstrap leather case on my 12 pro, 14 pro, 16 pro and 17 pro. Not a scratch on any of them.

u/GlitteringFig2625 25d ago
The only thing mine has is some minor paint chipping around the camera plateau but I think that’s from debris getting inside the case and rubbing on the paint so definitely will keep an eye on that this time around.
2
u/FlamingoSuspicious96 25d ago
What are your plans to solve that problem? It’s what I’m most nervous about
2
u/GlitteringFig2625 24d ago
I’m going to get a case that has a camera protector. This camera protector that was made for the Rebel Series Gen 7 is nice but doesn’t fit snug to the point where nothing can get in. But ultimately I’ll just have to clean my phone more

u/lmboyer04 25d ago
I had my 13 pro without a case since release day with only minor corner chips over the years until I took a spill on my bike and the entire glass shattered. Same thing happened to my friend who had a case on his 17 pro when he fell on his bike. Doesn’t guarantee anything one way or another

hey, what case do you use? I usually use otterbox defender and had no damage at all to my 14 pm the last 3 years even after dropping it a million times on concrete floors, but not happy w the color selection from otterbox this year lol im considering caudabe

I would venture to say at least some of these, especially pic 4, are being done intentionally for internet attention/points.

u/KatherineCollects 25d ago
I literally had my screen protector and case ready to go before I even opened the box! I am notorious for dropping phones, but always use hardcore cases and have NEVER had a screen or phone break or look like this! And I drop my phone at least every other week! Seriously I am a klutz! You have to be trying to damage the phones to get it that bad in one day!

u/mironor94 25d ago
Bingo. These posts are stupid. I’ve dropped my aluminum phone a lot. Keep them in a case with a screen protector. Never a scratch, dent, or crack. These people have to be stupid with their stuff.

I’ve been using mobile devices without cases or screen protectors for 20+ years. I can’t fathom how people are just constantly breaking their shit. Are people doing parkour with their phone in their hand? Are they playing hot potato with their phones? Using it as a frisbee?
Just put it in your pocket and try to operate with just a smidge of caution.
3
3
u/Visible-Loquat610 25d ago
It’s why I always get the screen protector and case in advance, I don’t even open the box unless I have them both ready to go.

Why would anyone pay over 1000 for a phone and not put a case on it.

People are really out here in the big 2026 NOT using phone cases on $1,300 iPhones!? MY GOD, nowadays I order the phone case WEEKS before I get my phone!!
2
u/Mundane_Engineer_550 22d ago
Damn, it's almost like they make a case to protect from the exact thing 💀
2
u/Positive_Self_8873 21d ago
I have weak grip and arthritis and I drop my phones less wtf man, people buy cases if you got a 2500 phone get a case.
2
u/TimberW1lly 20d ago
Genuinely astonished at how quickly people are dropping/breaking phones that just came out.
I bought my 17 Pro in November and immediately went to Best Buy for a Dbrand case (they’re my case of choice) before taking everything home and unboxing.
Yes, I could’ve transferred stuff at the Apple Store, but I wanted access to PW safes and authenticators on my old phone before I wiped it.

Wear case it’ll hide damaged part everything works fine anyways who cares - respond I got when addressed same issue with 17 pro
1
u/Flimsy_Rice_1182 25d ago
The only time I use protection is on an iPhone
After they set up my 18 pro black, I reached in my bag and whipped out the case I had bought couple days earlier off Amazon lol

u/Rikky999 25d ago
Exactly why I’m keeping my titanium 16pro. Two years with no case in construction and nothing like that.

u/Solid-Journalist1054 25d ago
$10 case from TEMU, phone is still 100 percent mint from a year ago. Use a case girls

u/LiquidFireNeon 25d ago edited 25d ago
I've decided I won't even take mine out over concrete any more even with a case if I can help it . Or tuck it up under my armpit while walking as I often did. 15 pro got cracked on the back again after it was repaired even with a defender. Got my 18 pro yesterday

How are people this careless, I had my 15 pro for 3 years and just had minor scratches on it. I have my 17 pro max for 4 months now and dropped it once but managed to put my feet under before it hit the ground, it’s like ultra instinct hits me when it comes to the phone lmao
1
u/masonay0un 25d ago
I honestly don’t know how people raw dog their phones, the aluminum is way too smooth.
1
u/Available-Apricot954 25d ago
Honestly, I just feel like if you know you’re “clumsy” or negligent of the stuff you own then why not just take the extra step to get some kind of protection.
1
u/duplicate_avoidance 25d ago
The phone is barely 24 hours old. People are messing theirs up already.

u/LeVerified 25d ago
Everyone sharing the same fake pics. Saw dem kohl post two of these pics already.
1
u/youngpacino420 25d ago
I buy a case and a screen protector before I buy the phone itself for good reasons 😂
1
u/BenekCript 25d ago
People should not have nice things if they can’t respect them. Here’s hoping this was their own money.
Yes, the titanium was superior here. But you know what you’re getting with an aluminum body in 2026.

u/MamboFloof 25d ago

I’ve broken every phone I’ve ever had so I get it.
This time I put an otter box defender on my work phone and a clear apple case and extra glass on my personal

A good case costs $25 or more and can prevent all of this. Titanium can and does get scratched too. Even the high-end phones made from kryptonite are not indestructible

What do u expect without using a case? The phone bounce back to your hand when it drops?

I’m trying to kill my base iPhone 13 for a year now - I don’t have any protectors nor case and I still see only microscopic scratches. Ppl doing this to a one day old phone should be studied lol
1
u/DemotivationalSpeak 25d ago
I ordered a case right after pre-ordering the phone, and because it was estimated to arrive a few days after the phone, I got a cheap amazon case to hold me over. The screen protector went on first thing out of the box before the phone was ever powered on. The fact that you can dump $1200 into a phone and decline to spend an extra $10 on a basic case is beyond me.
1
1
u/TurbulentMuscle0 25d ago
That’s why you should have got a cheaper 17 pro and waited until Apple stop using shitty aluminum
1
u/Due-Restaurant-7208 25d ago
I violently drop my phone ten times a day. A good case is not optional for me
1
u/West_Coconut_4303 24d ago
I am a person who drops all phones constantly. Sometimes multiple times a day. Sometimes entire flights of stairs to the basement.
However, I am self-aware. Selecting a case for me is a science. Getting a good screen protector is a must, too.
I have had iPhones since the iPhone 4s. I never managed to destroy or even damage one. When I sell them, they don’t even have a scratch.

u/CaterpillarPuzzled50 24d ago

I traded in my 14 pro for the 18pro, and I didn’t have to pay anything extra thru T-Mobile. I just keep paying the same price i already was for my flawless service. Couldn’t be happier. Just had to spend the 30$ activation fee. Easy Peasy

People never fail to amaze.
The only people we should see this from are drop testers. We know from the 17 Pro series that if you don’t want serious damage or scratches you need to put on a case and whether or not you use one, AppleCare is a must.

the only time i’ve busted a phone that bad is when i fell off my e-board going ~25 mph and landed on my 13 Pro Max. 16 Pro has a hairline crack but it’s only visible off-axis and hasn’t bothered me for 2ish years. how are these people busting their phones that bad.
