Coming to Life Dream Realized

Lurker mostly on this Reddit but we recently bought a house and are chipping away at making it our forever home. Our first project was replacing what I call “confetti tile”. All the homes in this neighborhood have tile counter to ceiling, and most of them are a shade of white. Given our walnut cabinets we wanted something with a little more life.

First photo is the before, second photo is the AI rendering with all the AI mistakes, and the last photos are the real life results. Note: the tile guy is coming back to finish the small area above the fridge so that will be filled in soon.

May add some under cabinet lighting in time but TBD. We LOVE the results…maybe the green will lose appeal to some over time as too trendy.. I hope not, but that will be someone else’s problem because we’re obsessed. 🤩

Before and after of my living room after about 8 months of messing with it.

Got some really helpful guidance from this group along the way, so figured I’d share where it ended up.

Still need to deal with the overhead boob light situation. Not sure if I should keep it simple or do a short pendant.

What would you all do?

Furniture Placement My bedroom still feels off

Basically the title says it all. My bedroom still feels “off” and I don’t know what to change.

The biggest thing is not having a door, but I rent so I can’t really do anything about that.

I feel like the layout is kind of weird but I’ve tried some other layouts that didn’t feel any better. I put my bed in other configurations but space-wise it’s ended up working best in front of the window. I don’t love the bookshelf and chair but they’re family heirlooms I can’t get rid of at the moment.

Particularly, my dresser and vanity feels off because the wall is so bare. I’ve put up a few different jewelry holders but my cat keeps knocking them down lol. Should I hang the mirror instead? Put up more art? I have a bunch of art I could hang I just don’t know the best configuration.

What can I do to make my room feel more cohesive and complete?

Coming to Life how to tone down orange wood in a bedroom?

Looking for advice on how to tone down the orange wood color that is currently present in our room. the bed frame, dresser and nightstands are also a similar color wood which does not help.

I'm looking for something to add dimension and vibrancy to the space while still highlighting the natural features of the room. I think the wood is beautiful! and am not looking to/able to make any changes to it (rental apartment).

Photos 1-3 are the current bedroom and 4-6 are inspiration/the vibe I would like to work towards.

Finishing Touches Help me improve my primary bedroom

Thumbnail

We moved into this house a few years ago and I’ve slowly been making each room my own. I feel like I’ve had a specific vision for each room, but when it comes to our primary bedroom… I’ve got nothin’. I want it to feel cozy and inviting, but can’t seem to figure out how to get it there. I’d love to go dark and moody, but I’m not sure how to do that with the existing wallpaper (or how to get my husband on board). What would you add or change in this room, keeping in mind that the major elements—furniture, wallpaper, and curtains—all have to stay for now?

Also, before the r/tvtoohigh people come for me— I already know. 😆

Finally moved back into an apartment of my own (37 year old male) and decided I wanted my home to feel like my own personal little creative retreat and sanctuary... it's not going to be everyone's thing but it couldn't feel more like home to me!

No AI or filtering used except for the entrance picture (to remove my apartment number).

Coming to Life I can't decide

My boss gave me some cushion covers from the company for free, and I was already planning to switch up the pillows in my bedroom anyway. So now I’m trying to figure out which one looks best and which one fits my bedroom style better.

Right now, I only have a real-life pic of the smallest-check pattern. The other ones haven’t arrived yet, so I won’t be able to see what they actually look like until tomorrow.

How is everyone arranging their faux branches in vases? Do you go for a more dramatic uneven spread like I’ve done or do you go for neater arrangements?

Wall Art & Styling Affordable art that's not mass produced?

• Upvotes

I moved into what I hope will be my forever home a couple of years ago, and largely have things painted and furnished to my liking, but I have a couple of spots in need of art and I am determined to avoid mass produced "paintings" from Home Goods or similar. I am looking for ideas on where to find something a little more unique. I am willing to spend a little more for something I love, but the $500-700 price range is probably as high as I could go and that would need to be for a larger piece. I live in rural North Carolina, and art and craft fairs around here tend to reflect more of a folk art, home crafter vibe than I want, and often don't have large paintings, and I feel like galleries are the opposite end of the spectrum where I am seen as the folk art exhibit, and the prices are often beyond my range. Where is the middle ground? I've scoured Etsy, but am hesitant to buy something sight unseen just based on photos.

Paint & Colors Really lost with what color to paint my awkward bathroom

Post image
4 Upvotes

Kind of as the title describes. Got our first place (woohoo) and we are doing renovations and repainting. I’ve been putting this bathroom off for two weeks now hoping a color or idea will have struct me and it still hasn’t.
Rest of our house will be 70’s or mid century modern inspired in terms of furniture and painted walls if that matters. I just do not want plain white walls in this bathroom because I think it’ll be off compared to the rest of the house. And I haven’t found any good inspiration to help me get the ball rolling in getting this room even tackled…

Any and all reccomendations would be highly appreciated :) Thanks

Curtains & Blinds Just finished the playroom windows, how does it look?

Post image

Went with woven ramie shades from NeutralCurtains for the playroom. Loved how the woven texture looks warm without blocking all the light, but four panels in a row with nothing else around them feels a little flat. Wondering if I should add side curtains to frame the windows or just leave the shades on their own. What do you think?

Built-ins & Features How to display kitchen appliances and keep them away from dog ?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I have all these appliances (air fryer, toaster, blender, electric kettle, etc) but not enough counter space for them. I used to leave them here with the cords handing (like in the photo) but recently got a dog and he’s been pulling the cords (already broke one appliance).

Thoughts on how to make this functional, cute and protected from the dog?

Furniture Placement Ever wondered how a marble dining table over 3 meters long is joined together on the inside? 👀

Most people see a beautiful marble dining table and focus on the surface, the color, or the design.
But have you ever wondered how a marble tabletop longer than 3 meters is joined together internally?
A table this large isn’t just about choosing a beautiful slab. The joining method, internal support, and installation all matter when it comes to creating a stable, well-finished piece.

Furniture Placement Ideas for odd space in new apartment?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So this is more of a small mother in law than an apartment, it’s a 2 bed 1 bath my bestfriend and I will be renting together and we can’t figure out how to best optimize the singular communal space. This kitchen area (included in pictures below) is right off the entrance and has a carpeted nook to the right of it before opening to the hallway to our rooms, laundry, and bathroom. Is this just enough room for a dining table and functional kitchen? It’s just the two of us but we’d love to be able to have people over, what could we do to make it more liveable other than making the small carpeted area more storage or something. Any ideas help I’m curious!

Sizing, slipping of the cushions, how it’s held up over the month/years? please!!
