Some Moderator announcements - Looking for mod help.

A moderation update for the sub:

First, on posts getting held up or frozen: I know this happens, and I try to get to it when I can. Some of it is not the sub settings. Some of it appears to be Reddit itself. I strongly suspect at least part of it is algorithmic, based on the kinds of posts that do and do not get through. So if your perfectly normal post gets caught in the lint trap, please do not take it personally.

The best thing you can seemingly do to avoid that is not post from a brand new account. I understand this is a private subject and some people prefer a throwaway, but fresh accounts with no real post history seem much more likely to get snagged. If possible, use an account that has some normal everyday activity on it.

I have been moderating this sub since late 2023, and I have a lot of life stuff going on at the moment. Much of it is positive, a few parts are just ordinary pain-in-the-ass life stuff, but either way I am at the point where I need support. I may step back more fully over time, but for now I am looking for one or more co-moderators.

This sub requires a bit more care than average because of the topic. Gynecomastia is medical. It is personal. It often comes up at a difficult age. It also exists in a social context that attracts trolling, misinformation, insecurity, and weird ideological baggage. So whoever helps guide this place needs a good head on their shoulders, fair-minded instincts, and a real desire to be useful to people.

My philosophy for the sub is simple: the whole purpose of this forum is to help people with a troublesome condition find a way to understand it, manage it, or correct it. Period. This is a place where we help each other. If something is not helpful, it probably does not belong here. If you are not a service-minded person who is always thinking about how to create a supportive environment for everybody, this is probably not the right sub for you to moderate.

So, what I am looking for:

General requirements

  • You need to have an open post history so I can get a sense of your writing style, your judgment, and what you are about. The broader your footprint on Reddit, the better I can understand who I am dealing with.
  • Previous mod experience is a plus, especially if you know your way around Automod.
  • You need to be reasonably available and checking in at least daily. This is not a super high-volume sub, but quick turnaround requires actual human coverage.
  • If you are in Europe or Asia, that is a plus, because it gives the sub better time zone coverage. I am in the States.
  • You should have a well-rounded STEM education or at least solid STEM exposure. You do not need a STEM degree, but you do need acumen, critical thinking, and some ability to sort signal from noise. This is not the place for fringe medicine, supplement hawking, or unserious advice.

Prohibitions

  • You cannot be employed by a provider in this space.
  • You cannot be a contractor for one.
  • You definitely cannot be acting as an arm of marketing, advertising, or PR for one.
  • You cannot be affiliated with a provider.

Soft skills

  • Any previous experience helping people in a group environment, support setting, or care-oriented context is very valuable.
  • High ethical standards are a core responsibility here. You need to be able to spot when content is being pushed for promotional, sponsored, or self-interested reasons, and you need to keep that influence out. Advice in this sub must not be shaped by favors, relationships, inducements, or hidden agendas. Do not play favorites. Be even-handed, disclose conflicts, and keep the sub centered on helping people rather than benefiting anyone behind the scenes.
  • You need to be personally at peace with the fact that sex and gender are not always neat, absolute, or culturally comfortable in real life. Many people come here because they are regular guys who want to look more like guys. Some of those guys do not fit every tidy definition people try to impose. There is Klinefelter syndrome, androgen insensitivity, gender dysphoria, and other real medical or developmental complexity around this territory. This is not ideology. This is biology. So if you are going to moderate here, you need to assume good faith, respect what people tell you about themselves, respect their personage, and focus on helping them rather than turning their situation into a culture-war argument. At the same time, you still need to be a sharp troll detector, which is not always easy.

This is a long post, but I think the subject warrants the extra clarity.

If you are interested in helping moderate, message me.

Pre-Op Finally getting my gynecomastia surgery this Monday! šŸ„¹šŸ”„

After years of feeling self conscious about my chest, constantly worrying about how my t shirts fit, avoiding certain clothes, and sometimes even changing my posture to hide it, I’m finally doing something for myself.

My gynecomastia surgery is scheduled for this Monday, and honestly, I’m feeling a mix of excitement, nervousness, and relief. It’s something I’ve thought about for a long time, and seeing it finally happen feels surreal.

I’ve lost around 20 kg over the years, worked on my fitness, and tried to improve myself in different ways, but this has always been one of my biggest insecurities. No matter how much progress I made in the gym, it never really went away.

The best part? I’m looking forward to the little things most people probably take for granted such as wearing fitted t shirts without overthinking, going swimming without feeling uncomfortable, walking confidently, and finally feeling comfortable in my own body.

I’m keeping this private from people in my personal life, so I don’t really have anyone to share this excitement with. I guess that’s why I wanted to post here. šŸ˜…

To everyone who has already gone through this surgery, I’d love to hear about your experience, recovery, and how you felt mentally afterward.

Monday can’t come soon enough. Here’s to a new chapter! ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

44M, 230 lbs - considering gynecomastia surgery with skin removal. How do the scars look after a year? NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m looking into surgery and would appreciate feedback from anyone who’s had a similar procedure, especially if you’re a year or more out.

I’m 44 and weigh about 230 pounds. I’ve had one consultation and have another tomorrow. The first surgeon recommended removing excess skin rather than liposuction alone because they’re concerned my skin won’t have enough elasticity to tighten afterward.

My understanding is that they would remove and reposition the nipples, cut away excess skin, and try to place the scar along the underside of my pecs. I still need to clarify the exact technique at my next consult.

My reasons are both physical and cosmetic. When I jog, the left side of my chest slaps against my body, which gets annoying. When I bend over, my chest hangs down, and it’s something I feel self-conscious about. I’d like to address it, but I’m trying to understand how I’ll feel about the scars afterward.

For anyone who’s had skin removal with a similar incision:
How noticeable are your scars after a year or longer?
Does the scar sit naturally under your pec, or is it visible across your chest?
How did the nipple appearance and sensation turn out?
Are you happy with the trade-off between the scars and your chest shape?
Anything you wish you’d asked before surgery?

If you’re comfortable sharing healed photos, especially at 12–18 months or later, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks for any honest feedback or experiences.

NYC surgeon recommendation

I highly recommended Dr Senderoff. Im over 6th month into recovery and I look fantastic. It was simple, no bs, reasonable price. I paid about 10k, and was quoted 15k by other fancier surgeons with less experience.

Sharing because I had a lot of trouble getting a good snapshot of who was operating in nyc, and I want people to know he’s a great straight forward option

Post-Op Gyno Surgery Results: Before āž”ļø 1 Day After āž”ļø 12 Months After NSFW

Hey guys my name is Dr. Hersi, I'm the founder of a gynecomastia-focused, male-only, surgical practice in šŸ“southern Texas.

It's challenging to get patients to come back for long-term follow-ups. This gentleman was nice enough to come back to let me get some photos, so I thought I would share his results.

The Patient

At the time of surgery, he was 25 years old, 5'9", 210 pounds. Because of work and a growing family, he gained some weight, so now he's 215 pounds.

The Surgery

I utilized VASER assisted liposuction and the gyno glands we removed are there on the 3rd slide.

The infraareolar incision and armpit access point are visible on the post-op day pic at the top.

More Results and Educational Gyno Videos

If you're interested, some of my catalog is on Instagram. It's tough to get any kind of traction given this is not a sexy topic and is actively suppressed by social media given body image concerns and partial nudity.

FAQ 1 - Will the gyno come back?

No, I removed the glands in their entirety. And I thoroughly checked the chest pocket, and there were no residual pieces accidentally left behind.

FAQ 2 - Will the areola be at risk if we remove the whole gland?

No. Through careful surgical technique, I'm able to peel the gland off the underside of the areola without compromising blood flow to the skin.

FAQ 3 - Will the scars be visible/noticeable?

Look for yourself and you tell me.

PS - The blue arm covers are to conceal tattoos.

General nocebo, or obvious enlargement? NSFW

I’ve had pubertal gynecomastia for a while now (i’m 20). I started finasteride a month ago, and after reading about the side effects I started paying attention to my chest. I’ve been hyper-fixating on it. I started messing with them to see if the lump was growing. I just couldn’t tell. Then a month into treatment, I had to take a break, and when I came back, all I could think about was my chest. Then my nipples started burning, and I stopped treatment. I know the best thing to do right now is to see a pcp, but this is just such an embarrassing topic. I want to know if I have very obvious gyno from finasteride. Maybe It’s all in my head. I don’t want to be the only one to see it so brutally honest redditors are a good start. Every picture besides the last two was during the end of treatment when I was most self conscious about it. The second to last was right before treatment. The very last was 1 1/2 years ago. I just don’t know if I should continue treatment again. If anyone has had any similar experience, then some advice would be appreciated. Thank you all šŸ™šŸ»

Recovery-Related Difficult Journey

Long story short couple years ago I finally got my doctors to agree to a gynecomastia surgery over a 2-3 year back and forth due to how much it was affecting my day to day life. It was obvious my body had some hormonal problems although they just could not find what was wrong. My financial assistance was going to cover it and I only had to pay $500 out of pocket no insurance. Everything was going great, we planned, pre op I got drawn on and explained everything that was going to get done. Half moon incision below areola, removal of glands then lipo to contour the pecks. I was my fittest, back when I used to also do personal trainer on the side. I go into surgery, wake up, days pass and time to remove my bandages etc. to find out no sutures, no incision, just 4 sutures. Two near my armpits and two around my upper ribs right at the bottom of my pecks. I'm freaking out calling my doctor trying to figure out what's going on and Im essentially told when I was under anesthesia the surgeon thought incision and gland removal was unnecessary even though that's what we planned, agreed on and drawn on 4 separate visits + pre op and just did lipo instead.

Tough recovery mentally and physically after that, I stayed hopeful and positive. After I healed and dealt with some weird nerve zapping problems I'm ended up with this. My right side there's a crater under the nipple, just hollow, nipple is inverted and at times it hurts. There's also no gland underneath. My left side nipple is normal, there's a pretty sizeable gland underneath but no super obvious gyno. I still have not put myself through a body comp. At this point I don't think my right chest is filling up and I have no clue why. The nipple pain sometimes gets worse and with folding/leaning down maneuvers it hurts.

Just looking for some opinions and directions if anybody's dealt with something similar.

Recovery-Related Intervento ginecomastia

Ciao a tutti,

Post-Op Surgeon Post: Dr Dhruv (DR.DC) India. Grade 2 Gynecomastia Result after 4 weeks. Intra Areolar 1cm cut technique.

Thumbnail gallery
57 Upvotes

Sharing a 4-week post-op result of a Grade 2 gynecomastia case.

The procedure involved:
• Liposuction for chest contouring and fat redistribution (Armpit Incision)
• Complete gland excision through a small ~1 cm intra-areolar incision.
• No large visible chest incision

At 4 weeks, the chest contour is already taking shape, although this is still an early result. Some residual swelling, firmness, and skin settling can continue to improve over the next few months.

The aim in gynecomastia surgery is not just removing the gland, but creating a smooth, natural-looking transition across the entire chest.

Surgeon: Dr Dhruv Chavan (Dr DC), Plastic Surgeon, Pune,India
(Posted with patient consent for educational purposes.)

Happy to answer questions about the technique, incision placement, recovery, or healing timeline.

Added context it does run in my dad’s side of the family, I am currently 5.11ft and 170lb at 18 yrs. Just wondering if it looks I have it. I can’t really tell worth a damn with whatever pitch test thing tbh and just am not sure. I already have Scheuermann’s kyphosis so would really blow if I had both.

I may have an upcoming month off from work. Is it possible to get surgery done from initial contact within a month? If it helps I'm looking specifically in the southern California. Also do y'all have any suggestions on good surgeons in the area?

Pre-Op Is 25 days enough recovery time?

So I have Gyno and I'll have it removed next month, I am tired of having it...

You can see in my post history how it looks in my case but the surgery consists of lipo + gland extraction.

The thing is: I will start a new job training abroad, 25 days after the surgery, it's mostly theoretical training in the first week, but I should be ideally bruiseless and without any open wounds when I arrive and should be without any (or almost any) physical limitations by week 4/5. Also, I would prefer not to use the vest while I am at training.

Is this feasible? Is it safe to advance with the surgery?

The company I am starting with is very strict and I don't want to have any kind of problems with them, it's also an great opportunity I don't want to loose, I would postpone the surgery for later but to be honest If it's not now I'll probably only be able to do it in a few years and I don't want to wait that long
