It is likely that many folks have purchased this pedal and had remorse once they got it home. The controls are confusing. It is much easier to make terrible sounding noises than sounds pleasing to the ear. Like me, I would guess most people don’t even understand what this pedal does exactly. When I plugged into this pedal, it was like coming home to place I’ve never been.
I love using weird noises and glitchy madness in the music I play. When the Data Corrupter showed up at my local shop, I had to give it a try. Here is my description of what it does. Keep in mind, I don’t really know how this pedal works.
The Data Corrupter seems to turn your guitar signal into three different sounds. The volume of each of these sounds can be mixed in using the three small knobs at the top. The three sounds are:
Master Oscillator which is a synth type sound with octave and interval options.
Subharmonic which is another synth type sound. One of those two has wild modulation you can switch from glide to sign wave. This is where the video game laser gun sounds reside.
Square wave nasty fuzz which is at full gain always and adds a massive or subtle wall of fuzz to the mix.
I found some great sounds right away. Wild shit can happen when you stop playing suddenly or play more than one string. This pedal is supposed to be monophonic. So more than one note sends it into chaos. It’s a lot of fun.
If you add a bit of stereo delay to it, that’s when business really picks up for the Data Corrupter. My favorite about this pedal is it’s very stable. If you play something with certain settings, you can easily repeat the same playing and get the same sound. Most of the synth pedals I own are unpredictable at times. Which is cool, but at times makes it impossible to repeat what you just did.
Do you have this pedal or have questions about it? Did you buy it then hate it? I get it.
Let me know and thanks for reading.
