People keep starting new threads every time they see an AI sign or menu, and the discussion is pretty much identical every time.

If you want to shame a business for using AI signs or menus, do it here. Standalone posts about this are being deleted.

Abandoned Virgin Hotel

• Upvotes

I am pretty sure I'm about to be called an idiot (I'm at peace with that 😂).

I saw this vid of people breaking in to that hotel . This can't be real, right? Given everything else going on with a housing crisis?

Possibly homeless in Glasgow soon. Any advice

Possibly homeless in Glasgow. Any advice. I might have to go to council as parents making me leave. I've heard bad things about hotels and how long people stay there, worried. Any recent experiences? timelines from hotel to temp flat to perm? Also a adult full-time student and been told I wont be able to get housing benefit so I'll have to pay out of pocket.

Going to a Pub alone

Hi!
I just moved to Glasgow and am unaware of the pub culture here. I’m a football fan and haven’t made any friends that like football too. I can’t stream the the Champions League, so would it be weird of me to go alone to a pub, have a drink and watch the game? Is that frowned upon? Maybe with my computer?
Thank you
Update: yes i got it, i’ll go without my laptop. i’m a girl so i reckon most if not all people will be men so i doubt anyone will talk to me but i’m still going! thank you for the advice!

Marshmallow top hats

So if you grew up in Scotland, these bad boys were always seen at kids parties or at school bake fairs.

I need to ask, as I remember having this discussion with some folks recently, was it smarties or jelly tots on top when you were wee?

I'm wondering if the preferred topping differs depending on where you grew up. I said I'd make them for a toddlers Halloween party next week and I'm unsure whether to stick with what I grew up with or do a mishmash. 🎃

Mental health support Private psychiatry in Glasgow

Does anyone have any experience in going private for mental health treatment/medication?

I’ve just had one private psychiatrist not work out (ghosted me after the first appointment), and I can’t really afford/ have the mental energy for the same thing to happen again. It took a lot out of me to go through with that appointment. Struggling to find places more focussed on mental illness and not for ADHD/Autism diagnosis, and that aren’t over my budget. I'm getting really desperate and the NHS is not an option for me.

Just wanted to hear if anyone has had success/received treatment and can recommend anywhere?

Edited to add: I'm currently looking at working with a Psychiatrist to get the medication side of things sorted.

City of Glasgow College Amethyst Hair and Beauty Training Salons

Hi, has anyone had any experience with these training salons before? I'm interested in several of their services like eyebrow shaping, manicures, and ladies' haircuts, but I can't seem to find any photos online of the finished products. They also have mixed reviews on Google Maps, so I'm wondering if the salons are worth going to. As a student, the listed prices are really tempting, but I don't want to take too much of a risk lol.

Tenement with no factors?

FTB going to some viewings around southside / govanhill and frequently properties are 50% or more landlords, viewing today with one that has no factors or common buildings insurance and of course roof / chimney has number 2s on HR.

Complete write off? so many have multiple landlords and wondering if its potentially unrealistic to try and get one with majority owners and long standing (not red flag) factor.

Morning yoga class

What kind of morning yoga class would you be most interested in attending? 🧘‍♀️

I’m thinking of organising a yoga class and would love to hear your preferences!

  1. What time would suit you best?

- 8 am on a weekday

- 9 am on a Saturday

  1. What style of yoga would you prefer in the morning?

Would you prefer something gentle and relaxing to start your day, or something a little more active?

I’d love to hear your thoughts! 😊

West of Scotland gender care is the worst in the UK by an unfathomable margin. The media and politicians are always quoting the figure from the Sandyford, and misrepresenting the awful reality, that the waiting list is effectively infinite.

While the press will quote 5 or 6 years from the Sandyford's own website, that figure represents how long people who joined the list in 2018 and now 2019 waited. The FOI above (I redacted the name for politeness but the original FOI is available here) shows the list is, for most people, eternal.

There have already been deaths citing this waiting list, including those of under 18's, and things are only getting worse.

I apologise to the mods, as these kinds of threads see a lot of unsavoury folks kicking off and the threads end up pretty rapidly locked. But this really needs to be seen.

A PSA about the Apple store on Buchanan Street - Avoid. Wrong diagnosis, a £500+ quote, and a push to buy a new laptop for an £85 fix

I took my MacBook into the Glasgow Buchanan Street store because it wouldn’t turn on, and asked for a diagnostic and repair. I was told they’d check the USB-C ports first and quoted £180 if that was the problem, with a warning that anything else would be much more expensive.

They had it for a day, then phoned to say the ports weren’t the issue and it was the logic board. The quote was over £500, which I declined, and I was advised I’d be better off just buying a new laptop.

I wanted a second opinion, so I took it to The Tech Bar on Byres Road. Within a few hours they’d found the real fault: liquid damage to the Audio/Touch ID board, a repair costing just £85. They talked me through the whole process and even showed me the damaged board.

The technician was surprised Apple hadn’t spotted it, as the damage was obvious the moment the laptop was opened, and he questioned whether Apple had bothered to open it at all.

So either the “Geniuses” couldn’t identify a clear fault, or they couldn’t be bothered to even open my laptop which they had no interest in fixing. They preferred to sell me a new machine or wrong diagnosis with a quote over six times higher than the real repair cost.

Either way, I won’t be taking my Apple products to this store again, and when this laptop does eventually give up, I’ll seriously think twice about buying Apple.

On the other hand, I can’t recommend The Tech Bar on Byres Road enough. Honest, quick, fairly priced, and genuinely helpful. Real stand-out guys.

Positive induction stories at QEUH

I’m 36 weeks pregnant and found out this week that I need to be induced at 37 weeks due to concerns with the placenta. It’s all happened really fast and I had a totally straightforward pregnancy up until now and had been hoping for a low key water birth etc. So I’m spiralling a bit!

Would love to hear any positive stories about induction in Glasgow or practical tips. I know lots of people have horrible experiences too and I’m so sorry but please if it’s ok don’t share those here, I am freaking out so much already! Thanks so much for any positivity and advice 🙏
