Dirk Koster – The different one

‘I took this in 2025 in the Maasai Mara, Kenya, in the Oltepesi area. Three young giraffes were standing side by side on the savanna and looked back at me with great curiosity. Right behind the middle one stood a single umbrella acacia, perfectly lined up with its head and neck. The giraffe seemed to be wearing the tree, like a green hairdo or a fancy hat. Nothing was staged or arranged; it was a matter of being in the right spot at the right moment’

from left to right, the reticulated, the Masai, the southern and the northern. would love your honest opinions on this! i know the legs are wrong and it is sloppy, but do you think it can help people tell them apart better? this was illustrated by me, no AI included.

Found these living large in Uganda

Was watching a documentary earlier and it really hit me how weird they look while eating. Like they just unfold themselves to reach the ground. Honestly, pretty cool creatures. Wish I could see one in person just to see how massive they actually are.

Spent the day with this big guy next to me. I love to talk about Giraffes at the zoo!

San Francisco Zoo, San Francisco, California during my visit in June 2025.

I love the last video in this post where they are running!

Sadly I only got my smartphone camera, I seriously need a better camera. There is one adult male, two females and two young ones, one is maybe 2-3 months and the other one around 1 year.

It is still an artificial enclosure, but they have enough space, need to stretch for food and they procreate pretty regularly.
