There will be a set of Show Matches happening over onHoloshideims Twitch Channel, kicking off at 17:00 CEST (5pm, UTC+2)
There are two sets of Best of 3s planned for the day.
The first Match will be Crowrevell vs Sleeping Dragon, which will be brought to you by Rand118 and Holo himself. First to win two Matches will take the Series. Both Crow and SD are with Pause players, with Crow being a participant in the first Iteration of the FTL Masters Edition. He made it to the Semi Finals, where he lost to NecroRebel who eventually ended up finishing second place in the Event. For SD, this is his second Show Match appearance.
Due to us having a hard cap on time, we will start the second Series at 20:00/20:30 CEST (8/8:30pm UTC+2).
The second Series will be played by Holo and NecroRebel. This Match will be brought to you by The_Farb and Crow. To many of you, Holo doesn't need an introduction. He has won a mind bending 124 consecutive runs of FTL on Hard, No Pause random ships, no repeats. He also had win streaks of 117, 92, 71, 70 and many more (you get my point). NecroRebel recently returned to FTL with our recent Show Match and we are happy to have our runner up of the first Tournament. Necro also completed the Cycle in Hard, No Pause multiple times.
For this Show Match, we have reworked our scoring formula and the linked video will explain everything you could possibly want to know about it.
We hope that it will be a great Show and we love to see all the people enjoying the content so far. The Main Event will be back this year and as always, if you want to receive pings for all updates in regards to future Tournament activity or give us feedback, feel free to join the Discord, select the FTL Role. As the driving force behind this, I am always about any sort of feedback because I want to bring you the best possible experience.
Thank you for your attention and have a great day/week <3
Following my post from 5 month ago I'm coming with news on my FTL-inspired space game, Cosmo Cargo.
After 5 months of fine-tuning interface, gameplay, new events and stupid alien dialogues I finally got a new fresh build to share (thanks a lot for your great feedbacks, it helped me a lot!).
The game is Cosmo Cargo, a PvE inventory autobattler roguelite where you deliver packages to friendly aliens and fight Administrators to save the galaxy.
The demo has a lot more replayability, content and polish so if you want to give it another try and share your thoughts about it, I'd love to ear that!
I had AI rework FTL's iPad port to make it run on Android devices.
This is just a fun project thrown together over an afternoon. [I didn't know](https://www.reddit.com/pgp70j4) about Project Wormhole when working on this.
It has a bunch of UX improvements to make it work better on a small screen.
So I bought this game well over 10 years ago. I have played it in 3 bursts over that time. When I first got it I did like 10 runs and miserably failed. However, I really enjoyed the combat side of the game. Fast forward to 4 years ago and I picked it back up again on a whim. I got to the end boss 4 times but ultimately couldn’t beat the ship. In my opinion, the difficulty jump is pretty big going into the final fight. I got quite frustrated and put it down. Over the past couple of days I started to play again as I wanted something short while I listened to podcasts. Wasn’t attempting to win but just have fun.
First time I get to the final boss ship I beat it… and finished the game. Almost like not not trying was the key.
Ship was the standard Kestrel, full crew with all yellow skills in shield, piloting, weapons and engines. Level 3 shield and 45% evasion. I had x2 Burst laser 2s and a Breach missile unit. I also had Level 3 Cloaking.
Very enjoyable to finally do it. Sorry this is a bit random. Almost a fllow-up to my 4 years ago post!
I struggled really hard to beat the game on normal with Engi A. I always failed in the later sections.
Two days ago I posted about my win (finally!)
After that, I played the Federation ship on normal and won the first try. Today I played the zoltan ship on normal and again won first try.
Both wins not even close.
Thanks everyone for the tips I got here!
I will continue to improve and when I've won with every ship on normal, I'll continue with every ship on hard.
I'm new to the game (like, new new), and I just got to sector 6 by the skin of my teeth. At this point, my strategy of burst lasering their shields has stopped working because the laser misses at least 1 shot almost every time, so I can do nothing to them. Bombing the shields first doesn't work either because the follow up shots with the laser still miss and I'm back to square one. Starting from S5 I had to seriously repair, but other than that, I've been upgrading my ship and selling spare cargo... should I have gone for more guns?
Effect: Shoots down incoming missiles, hacking and boarding drones, individual flak debris, and asteroids but also ion blasts and lasers (including those shot by combat drones) (Has blind spots)
Runs were streamed and saved as highlights (uhh, except for a few parts I missed and then vod expired) here: https://www.twitch.tv/aevean_leeow Though after some time I'm gonna have to just upload the runs to like google drive or youtube maybe to clear storage space.
Compared to my previous streak, buying fuel was much more "instinctive" and I often bought it when autopiloting (playing 1-2 runs a day, I ain't gonna keep full focus for that long, having a good autopilot is important IMO), and properly playing into pulsars instead of using my incorrect autopilot. Those were the main differences I guess, besides understanding that Z*ltan B is a gacha and doing them earlier. Hot take: Zoltan B is the worst Zoltan ship and Zoltan C is better than Fed B / Kestrel C / Fed A too.
But honestly I think I played worse this streak. Well, both better and worse. I kept fucking up the micro especially when boarding and had to win with extremely scuffed stuff. Like on Rock A my autopilot went yep, break the doors open and then your boarders can't die, just micro them! Keep sending them! Well the pirate ship had a Lanius... 3 crew loss (out of 4 total...) in sector 3, that was the 1152 scrap run. Or on Mantis A I lost 4 crew in Flagship Phase 1 because I was just late in teleporting them back while the flagship exploded. But I played better in these disaster conditions, its just that it was my own fault it was so disastrous, unlike the Zoltan B run loss on previous streak where it was extremely brutal RNG lol.
To an extent I think the RNG was less kind this streak, so I couldn't get away with doing bad decisions for the lols as often, like buying multiple Scrap Recovery Arms in early-mid which I did on Fed A (?) last streak cuz the game kept giving free BL2s.
Overall at least I got to use interesting weapons this streak compared to previous. I got to use Vulcan on Slug A, Was again a S7-S8 thing so it wasn't actually that weak of a weapon. Zoltan B Zoltan C and Engi A I ended up running ion stacking setup, 4 weapon power worth of ion is sufficient for basically all of the game and is relatively cheap. And shoutouts to Fire Bomb and Pegasus Missiles, I got good mileage out of them in multiple different ships despite their not great public reputation. Fire Bomb + MC is great, Fire Bomb is great in Phase 2 of flagship if you crewkilled in Phase 1.
And high power missiles are somewhat underrated IMO. Hermes is 14s for 3 damage, Breach/Pegasus 4 dmg for 3 power at 20ish seconds. This is not really unfavorable when compared to 3 power lasers like Charge Laser 2 (4 shots 20 seconds) Hull Laser 2 (3 shots 15 seconds) Heavy Laser 2 (4 damage 13 seconds) when u consider they get blocked by shields. Hermes especially is quite fast and effective for a 3 power missile. Of course, Breach Bomb 2 mogs them at 2 power for 3 dmg and breach and ignore Defence Drones but well Breach Bomb 2 is super strong weapon, its like saying Burst 1 sucks because Burst 2 is OP
Average scrap: 1451
Lowest scrap: 1152
Highest scrap: 1692
(I actually achieved the same scrap two runs in a row, on Rock C Mantis C lol, 1621)
System purchases:
MC feels very important with 2 tile TP, letting u board into shields, then run to weapons while they hit your MCed meatshield in shields. Otherwise its a decent option for offensive improvement early if your loadout is capable of doing damage but not enough damage to let it stick against enemy repairs, or evasion drops, and it opens option for TP pivot. And also cheap endgame if u feel like grabbing it lol. But usually I'd prefer DC if I'm not using or considering a 2 tile teleporter.
DC is either cheap and really effective defense improvement with Defense Drone 1 or 2, or budget offense improvement and Zoltan Shield destroyer with Combat/Beam drones, or cheap and effective supplement into evil drone ships in pulsars/asteroids with Anti Drone. And lategame Hull Repair lets you get away with so much nonsense. Very flexible system. Gunships that can't do TP pivot, especially if they got 3 weapon slots, they can just do stuff like use multiple combat drones lategame / for flagship, and then otherwise meh loadouts can do quite well.
TP needs some kind of support and sufficient crew so that you aren't leaving the ship with like no one for repairs. With decent support it lets you crewkill phase 1 flagship and then you don't need a very strong build to win after that. Like you can break all their systems in phase 2 and then the drone surge isnt a big threat, and then with some ions or Zoltan Shield Bypass or Combat/Beam drone (ideally Beam), you deal with phase 3. Usually involves breaking their missiles with your own bomb or missile and then stopping repairs with stuff like mind control or your boarders or just more bombs. Also with sufficient support like clonebay, tp upgrades, respirators, or lanius, you mog autoships, though before you get them they mog you instead.
Cloak is cloak its good lol
Hack sucks its the worst thats why I never bought it, clearly
Took me 85 hours but I finally managed to achieve victory. I tried on normal for so long before accepting the fact that maybe I need to earn my chops on easy and get a better feel for the game before going up in difficulty. It worked! And it feels good to actually finish a run. I'll probably just keep going on Easy until I feel like I'm really stomping encounters.
I need to get a clean, vanilla ftl.dat file to run ftl on an emulator i have, and I wanted to try the archipelago mod someone made, but I can't use my current ftl.dat file since it has multiverse on it, and even though the archipelago mod does have multiverse support, since it's still in beta I'd rather just run it vanilla. But I'm not sure how to uninstall it in the first place, and I'm worried about losing my data. Any advice?
Just finished a run with the Duskbringer cruiser slot B. Genuinely was one of my most fun boarding runs ever. Though I'm a little frustrated that there aren't any Zoltan lab upgrades that would primarily assist Duskbringers in their goal of blowing up on the enemy ship. I mean, there is the personal shielding one, but I wanted to keep the rest of my Zoltan crew at least somewhat combat-capable to repel boarders.
