Would hate to see any businesses close but these are my top 5 in no order that would really depress me:

  2. Attaboy
  3. Lazy Fish
  4. The Orchard
  5. Cafe Ibiza

What would be yours?

A mural is being painted on the west side of the College Ave. bridge over the park pedestrian path near the bocce courts. I like what I see so far.

Do we still kill every Spotted Lanternfly, or is it pointless at this point?

Like we clearly lost- Spotted Lanternflies are everywhere and it's clear the government and public combined efforts are totally futile. They're part of our ecosystem now and for the foreseeable future. Eventually the ecosystem will sort it all out, but we're just going to have to wait for that to happen.

Looking for T-Shirt Blanket/Quilt Maker

My late son loved his graphic 90s-kid t-shirts, and I'd like to have them made into a blanket or quilt.

**I know there are online companies that do this, but the thought of putting his shirts in the mail makes me uncomfortable, so please don't suggest that.**

The companies I've seen also tend to use synthetic materials for the back of the quilt, and I'd like natural fiber options, if possible.

Anyway, I'm looking for crafters/sewers in the DMV area who have done this. And no offense, but I'm not looking for someone who thinks they "can" do it. I'd like to find someone who has actually done several and can show end results. I just understandably don't want to take any chances with his shirts.

Thank you in advance.

Recommended salons for blowouts and/or styling

I'm getting married in downtown Frederick next month, and my mom prefers to have someone wash and blowdry her hair. My HMU artist, whom I hired for myself and my bridesmaids, only does dry styling.

Where should I recommend my mom to get her hair done on a Saturday morning? She has naturally straight hair.

We're open to recommendations in downtown Frederick, south of Frederick around the mall, or Urbana.

Just a reminder; We have several amazing, locally-owned BJJ/Muay Thai gyms here in Frederick County.

It feels like BJJ is getting ready for another boom like it did during Covid. Seems more and more people are joining now than in recent years. I am not sure if people know this, but we have several incredible schools here with great instructor cadres. Groundswell, Urbana Academy, Clinch, Bowerhouse, etc . It doesn’t to be jits or MT. Maybe boxing or judo is more your speed.

Most of these schools have early morning, mid morning and evening classes. so no matter your work schedule, there is something for everyone.

If you’ve ever had any interest in trying one of these schools out, I highly recommend it. I am in my 40’s and have been training for several years. it has brought so many great friends from all sorts of walks of life, good health and a new passion. Seems people are becoming lonelier and more disconnected than ever and this is a great way to fight against it. Literally.

thank you for coming to my ted talk.

S Market St

I visited Frederick, MD recently and was surprised by how quiet South Market Street gets once you go past the river. The downtown area closer to the center feels lively, but just a little farther south, it seemed like foot traffic dropped off pretty quickly.

I'm curious about the local perspective. Is this normal throughout the week, or was it just the timing of my visit? Is there a reason that stretch gets less foot traffic? Do people tend to stay north of the creek, or is it more about parking, the mix of businesses, or something else?

I'm interested in learning more about the area from people who live, work, or own businesses in Frederick. I'd love to hear your thoughts and any context I'm missing.

Looking For Bandmates/ Musicians in the DMV Area

Hi! I am a Frederick local (M24) looking for people to make music with in the DMV area. Preferably anyone in their 20s and who is queer friendly.

I typically make alternative music ranging from shoegaze, goth, dream pop and post-rock. I can sing play guitar/keys, and have a good understanding of music theory. Would love to collaborate with people who can sing and/or play an instrument like guitar, bass, or even drums.

I have a lot of material already recorded and released. I’m interested in collaborating on original music, experimenting with sounds, and possibly forming a band if things click. Mostly looking for like minded people to get creative with.

If you’re interested feel free to message me! We can exchange socials and share music.

A driver was charged with two traffic violations after striking a student and an adult in a crosswalk near Tuscarora Elementary School in Frederick on Tuesday morning, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Both pedestrians were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Katie Robine, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 8:45 a.m. to the 6300 block of Lambert Drive for a report of a vehicle striking a juvenile and an adult pedestrian, Robine said.

The pedestrians were struck in a crosswalk leading to the Tuscarora Elementary School parking lot on Tennison Drive, Robine said.

The driver remained at the scene and was charged with failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failing to obey the instructions of a properly placed traffic control device, according to Robine.

The Sheriff's Office declined to identify the driver.
