Tinywhoop Guerilla whooping gear?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi all! What do you carry with you/what's your loadout for going flying with your tinywhoops, wether it's in a forest or a rip n dip in shopping malls? Some chest rigs, pouches, 3D printed cases?
Backpacks? Or just rawdogging it with your pockets?
Curious to hear/see what you rock!

Photo is ilustrative, send kit pics 😎

Tinywhoop Rate my Custom 5' Build

I had the AIR75II Champion for a month. So not the best still but I got a bit bored and wanted to build something. So I decided to just start and build a 5 inch drone and have used it a few times just basic cruising and some flips in a open space to get used to it.

Please rate my build as this is my first 5 inch and just wanted to chuck myself in deep straight away. I have very little soldering experience just have connected a few small wires together before this. I have used unleaded solder for this build even tho people seem to recommend leaded but I didn't have any on hand. I know some of the motor wire joints arent the best I may redo them but it works at least and they seem strong.

Build Details

  • Frame - Speedybee Mario 5
  • FC & ESC - T-Motor Velox F7 SE 8S + V70A SE 8S Stack
  • Motors - TMotor F60 PRO V Motor 1950kV
  • Receiver - Radiomaster RP1 V2 ELRS
  • VTX - HDZero Freestyle V2
  • Props - HQProp FlowerPig R29 V3 Poly Carbonate Pink

I also have a Vifly Finder V2 but hasn't been installed due to not sure where I can wedge it or place it within the already tightly packed frame.

FPV flying

Hello members, as we know.. the drone industry is beeing more and more needed as experience.
Even though Im working with the drones my last 5-6 years of working life.
I have never experienced FPV flying and I would like to learn and start to practise these kinda flights.
What are your recommendations for:
- fpv drone simulator software
- which RC/radio should I buy to have best feeling also for the real flying later on
- Recommended settings for best practise and experience

Thank you in advance!

FPV on Mobile

This is my first post, so any feedback or corrections are welcome. I hope this helps those who are just starting out with FPV on mobile devices. (Note: Prices may vary depending on your region or application store).

1. Available Simulators

The FPV simulator market on Android is relatively small. Many titles have limitations regarding map variety or realistic physics, but there are still decent options to practice on the go.

FPV Freerider (Standard and Recharged)

  • Price:
    • Standard Version: ~$4.99 USD (Play Store)
    • Recharged Version: ~$5.00 - $6.00 USD (Play Store)
    • Demo Version: Free
  • Overview: One of the best options in terms of price-to-performance. It features customizable gravity settings, although the physics still feel somewhat arcade-like. The Recharged version includes simple but functional features. A key advantage is the ability to load custom maps via files (though custom maps must be created and edited on the PC version first).
  • Performance: Not recommended for devices with less than 8 GB of RAM, as performance can drop significantly. However, you can lower the graphics settings in the menu to improve framerates.

VelociDrone (Mobile Version)

  • Price: ~$9.99 USD (Play Store / iOS)
  • Overview: Currently the most complete and realistic simulator available on mobile platforms. It inherits much of the core experience from the PC version, featuring decent graphics, community maps, timed races, and accurate physics. Although it costs more than other mobile simulators, it is worth the price for serious practice, despite receiving fewer updates than the PC build.

FeelFPV Drone Simulator

  • Price: Free (In-app purchases for custom maps and ad removal)
  • Overview: A very limited simulator. The physics feel floaty and exhibit excessive inertia, causing frequent crashes. It is not recommended for serious practice, as it only covers the most basic movements before becoming frustrating.

FeelFPV TinyWhoop Version

  • Price: Free (In-app purchases)
  • Overview: A significant improvement over the standard FeelFPV version. Focused specifically on TinyWhoops, it features adjustable physics, gravity controls, and good simulation options. It includes 4 small indoor maps with race tracks. Recommended if you want to practice controlling micro drones before purchasing a paid simulator or physical hardware.

Orqa FPV.SkyDive

  • Price: Free (Play Store / iOS)
  • Overview: Visually appealing on both mobile and PC. The mobile version includes a few outdoor maps (around 3) and a single drone. The physics lean toward the floaty side, making it less realistic, but it serves as a good free entry point to get a feel for FPV flight.

2. Hardware Compatibility, Performance, and Important Warnings

Before downloading, consider the following hardware and performance limitations:

  • iOS Limitations: Due to Apple policies, Bluetooth connections with radio transmitters often experience compatibility issues or input lag.
  • Controller Compatibility: All these apps are compatible with generic controllers (Xbox, PlayStation, etc.). However, radio transmitters with Bluetooth functions may not work on iPhones due to OS restrictions.
  • USB-OTG Connection & Hardware Tested: Using an OTG-USB cable is recommended in all cases to avoid compatibility errors on Android. Personally, I tested this setup using a BetaFPV LiteRadio 2 SE connected to a Samsung Galaxy A56 via a direct USB-C to USB-C cable, and it worked without issues.
  • Touch Controls vs. Physical Radios: Flying with touch screen controls is not recommended for developing proper muscle memory. To gain actual flight skills, use an external controller or a dedicated RC transmitter.
  • Flight Modes: This guide assumes practice in Acro (Manual) mode, which is the standard mode for real FPV flight. Make sure to check the settings in each app, as some default to Angle/Self-Level mode.
  • Technical Performance & Input Lag: To minimize response latency, always prefer a wired connection over Bluetooth. Lowering in-game graphics settings and disabling battery saver mode on your phone will help maintain stable frame rates.

Jumping on the Open Drone Pre-Order train

Does anyone feel like ordering an open drone stack? For around 100€ thats a lot of trust they need as I could also order a known good stack.. Also I cant find any information on max update rate for the AM32 ESC.. What else would you recommend for that pricepoint if not the Open Drone stack?

Welchen Tyni Whoop kaufen?

Hallo,

Question? Soldering station recommendations

Hello everyone,
I’m looking to build a kayoumini in a few months from now, so I’m looking to learn to solder first.
I’m planning to get a soldering station, solder wire, flux etc. first to solder on some practice boards.

Which soldering station would you recommend for me? Should I use C210 or C245?

Also, which solder wire would you recommend? I live in Germany, so leaded solder is not as easy to get. I saw that they sell leaded TBS solder on DFR, but idk if they are actually allowed to ship it to me.

Getting into FPV on a budget ($150 usd)

Hey guys, I'm looking to get into FPV drones and need some advice from experienced pilots. I'm interested in tiny whoops and mini FPV drones, mainly for indoor flying, freestyle, and eventually learning Acro mode. My total budget is under $150 USD for everything, including the drone, radio controller, FPV goggles, batteries, and charger. I'm looking for something beginner-friendly but preferably brushless, durable, and upgradeable so I won't outgrow it immediately. I've been looking at the BETAFPV Cetus/Cetus Lite kits, Air65, Meteor65, and similar tiny whoops, but I'm confused about which ones actually come with a controller and goggles versus being BNF kits that need extra gear. Analog video is totally fine; I don't need DJI O4. What complete ready-to-fly kits would you recommend at this price, and are there any good used options worth considering? Thanks!

Looking for the cheapest reliable budget FPV setup for a university project

Hey guys, I'm building an FPV setup for a university project and need some recommendations for the absolute cheapest reliable gear. Since the university will end up keeping the finished project at the end, I really don't want to invest much money into high end equipment, especially since I won't be flying it a whole lot outside of testing and demos.

I know the Eachine EV800D gets brought up constantly as the classic budget goggle, but since it's getting pretty old, I was wondering if there are any newer budget friendly options on the market that I should look into instead.

Along with goggles, I'd really appreciate recommendations for a solid budget camera, VTX, and receiver combo. I just need a simple analog setup that works well enough for the project without blowing through a budget. What are the best bang for your buck options right now? Thanks in advance!
