There’s no rule against giving Ramza a gun
With attack boost and poach and haste you just do 500 damage to half the map whenever you want

Hi, everyone. I'd like to thank everyone who commented on my previous post and give an update on how I decided to build my knights, with a little explanation of the thought process behind each unit. Starting with:
Agrias: At first I was going to give summons to Lavian and leave her with geomancy. Then I realized she has the most HP of the whole team and enough MP to cast Golem even without a robe. I also gave her Moogle, Lich and Sylph for varied support capabilities.
Mustadio: Big thanks to Zazieranyday for recommending the companion app. Not a lot of knight builds there, but the Gun Knight one for mustadio immediatly caught my interest, specially since a lot of comment suggested a knight with guns. A fun fact I found out about machinist in the TLW remix mod is that the snipe secondary has innate equip guns built in, freeing up the support skill slot for stuff like concentrate and attack up. At some point I might just ditch the shield and pick dual wielding, we'll see.
Joanna: This build was heavily inspired on TitaniumLegman's Paladin build, so not much to say besides how easy it is to set up. I gave her abandon for now, but I might switch back to weapon guard once I get a defender. Hard to improve perfection.
Alicia: Huge thanks to Nyzer for recommending an archer/knight hybrid for disruption. Also to adratlas and Major-Corner for recommending mixing aim and dual wield with arts of war, I'm a bit surprised those three synergize so well. I'm often tempted to just switch her to ninja for extra speed or archer for dual crossbow action, but I already have another unit for that.
Lavian: By far the build I've been most indecisive about, since I already have a dedicated Mystic. I left her with equip spear and martial arts for a decent while, but since so many people recommended a knight with mystic arts, I decided to keep her like that for now. I'm still considering giving her a spear or doublehand later along the line, though. Or maybe I'll turn her into a tanky barehanded knight, who knows! Btw, thanks to LancerGreen for reminding me of swiftcast, I still gotta train that on Agrias.
Anyway, I'm off to raid a church library and beat up some zealots. Wish me Luck!

I own FF Tactics Advance from when I was a child. Should I play that or buy Ivalice Chronicles? Which is better and has better / more mechanics? I wanna immerse myself in the world and explore every nook and cranny

For years I also drooled over the maps in Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, and Tactics Ogre ~ so I finally made my own map builder game! Creating to your hearts content, each map location has 2 requirements you must meet and some prebuilt terrain for you to work with. But of course there's also a Sandbox mode to go wild with!

Which Tactics game is your favorite, and what would you like to build or play with in an isometric pixel universe?

Was laughing hard when I randomly encountered this Great Wall of Monks, they swooped my ass in this battle tho.
.
I avenged myself properly after restarting my setup, this is one of the most fun engagements I had in this game.
PS. I finished this game and now playing FFTA, the plot difference is, idk, I can't put into words how much "dofference" there is, but Tactics is Tactics and I'm enjoying the game rn. Going back to Marcheee 🐑.

I've been working on a game inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics. FFT was the first game I ever got addicted to, on the PS1 probably 20+ years ago.
I originally started this project like 6 years ago, before the AI era. I had a working game, made in Unity, but one of my main goals was to support PvP, and I really struggled to make that work, so I gave up for a while. Then AI came around, and I saw that it could help me get the game to the finish line. I worked on it again for a year or so, this time using Godot, but eventually put it on hold as I had some other projects that I was focusing on instead, life got busy, etc.
Well in the last year or so I decided to pick this back up and I'm very happy with how it's been coming along. It's still a long ways out from being a finished product, but I wanted to share with this subreddit because I thought you all might be interested and I'm quite proud of it. I enjoy playing it myself, even if it's just against a bot player for now.
The game itself is heavily inspired by FFT but with MOBA elements included. I recorded myself playing a game and uploaded it to YouTube for anyone who wants to take a look. Happy to answer any questions you might have or explain more about the game. Thanks

To preface, I don't want this post to come off as me hating the game. I do like the story, the characters, and the designs. The last time I played I was at the beginning of chapter 4. Since then I took a few months as a break from the game. So should I just restart?
Here was my team comp:
Ramza - monk/gallant knight
A dragoon (with aim for whatever reason)
A black mage/summoner
A mystic/ white mage
Orlandeau - sword saint
I remember very vividly playing through the game on knight difficulty until I had to fight the first demon. It was very hard and I just switched to Squire for the rest of the game, and even then I thought it was pretty hard (especially with every boss fight).
The reason I want to restart is because I felt very cheap going through the game on easy mode. I want to enjoy the gameplay and the only way I think I would is by replaying on normal. That way I actually have to engage with thr mechanics. I would usually get stuck on a fight, look up what I have to do, and grind a person's job to something different. Idk, I didn't like the gameplay loop.
Is that a good idea? Horrible idea? Anything I should know?

I know many people are reluctant to the use of Ai, but there have been some heavy push towards AI mods with very interesting results.
If the community felt like using Ai mods for these games what are some of the things you would like to see in these games?
New clases without sacrificing class spaces?
Addition of skills from other games?
New fan made races with their own classes for Ffta/ffta2?
Addition of characters not found in the game natively? Like babus in FFTA2?
Bringing old mechanics like the Morpher class from FFTA to the sequel?
What are the things you would like to see with this new window of opportunities?

I’m just starting the game but I’m wondering if any other players don’t use or barely use the special named characters in their party and just stuck with their curated generic units that matched their {zodiac} Ramza?
Will I miss anything if I decide to not bring any of the special recruits? TIA

I remember playing Tactics as a 11 year old kid on my PSP and having so much fun. English not being my first language made the game frustrating but as I learned I fell in love with it, it remains one of my fondest memories. By random chance I stumbled onto this subreddit out of nostalgia and found out there is a remake?? I can't wait to get my hands onto it, I am so happy to revisit the world ;-;
Just wanted to share the joy with y'all, I love this game so much

Hi everyone,
I am excited to announce that FFTARecomp v2.0 is now officially released! This update brings several highly requested features, improved stability, and broader platform support.
What's New in Version 2.0:
• Completely redesigned options menu.
• Added dynamic zoom in and zoom out controls.
• Native Linux version and Steam Deck support.
• Installer scrolling fix for smaller screens and laptops.
• Generic XInput gamepad support with default key bindings.
• Aspect ratio rendering bug fixes for Super Ultrawide displays.
• New "Normal" audio mode during fast-forward (game speeds up while audio plays at normal speed).
Known Issues:
• In the first level, some sprite silhouettes may appear on screen for 1 to 3 seconds. They don't show up again for the rest of the game.
• The first time you launch the game, the gamepad may not be detected until you open Options > Input and try to remap a button. It then activates on its own.
Here's the GitHub, hope you all enjoy it!!

I've always wanted to play FFT, but I just can't get into it. I love FF and turn based games, but for some reason I just play the first fight and not touch the game again for years.
So I want to give it one last shot before deciding that it's not for me, so can I get any tips for this last try?
Thank you!

So, I've never been quite great at modding, but the modding tools for PSX and PSP allowed me to dip my toes. With FFTPatcher, I could edit some abilities and ability sets, and that was enough to add some custom content to the game.
Looking at the mods available for Ivalice Chronicles on Nexus, it feels like people are using a similar technique, but I couldn't find how they're doing it or any tool analagous to FFTPatcher. I just wanted to do things like Add my own personalized set of skills to Ramza's Squire class, stuff of that level.
Is there any comprehensive tutorial or tool for me to custom-make changes of that level?
(Playing Enhanced version.)

Guys I think I screwed up here... I'm playing the game for the first time and it was going fine until I reached the first castle battle where you do two in a row. At first I couldn't even get past the first combat, so I went back to get new equipment and level up and I found out a few things:
1) Apparently I should be changing jobs in order to progress in the job three, which I basically haven't
2) The useful shops are not available anymore because of the story progression, so if I change to some jobs I loose access to the gear I have and cannot buy new stuff
3) There is one good shop I can buy from, but only sells samurai (I assume) gear and I'm a bit far from that.
So I start grinding on the single level I have available to go into monks, mystic, etc. and I level up to around 20 for the whole party and I manage to get through the first combat quite easily, but now the Chuchu dude is too hard... I spend so much time getting rid of sleep and then trying to revive characters after then fall from doom. I managed to seep his MP at some point with Ramza but then he just kills my guys with one slap.
I tried to avoid checking job guides and so on online but apparently that was a big mistake? Also I only have one party because all my other guys were on errands when all paths closed and now I can't go back to them (I have no chemist with me)...
So my basic question is if I should: 1) is lvl20 overleveled and I should be having an easy time therefore my party and builds must be terrible so might as well reload a very early save and play it more strategically OR 2) just get past this guy whatever way I can and later I can fix my party and characters?
My current party is Ramza as a Knight, a Monk that can purify effects and punch, a Mystic that has a lot of White Mage spells, and the gun dude and the paladin lady you get from the story.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion and help!

Hello, my gentle and unruly Zodiac Beasts!
At the hour of greatest need, I have returned! Not merely to herald the arrival of two new mods, but to announce that none other than I, myself, have created them and now humbly bestow them upon thee!
These mods are part of an ongoing series I'm developing under the banner of Knights of the Unvext Dusk.
The first is The Numinous Knight—my vision of what Ramza Beoulve should have been, and what he should have gradually evolved into throughout the story of FINAL FANTASY TACTICS.
Consider, if you will, our dear Ramza.
A young nobleman whose understanding of the world is shattered by betrayal, corruption, and the discovery that righteousness and authority are not necessarily the same thing.
Throughout his journey, he encounters some of the most extraordinary warriors in Ivalice, witnesses the terrible power of both holy and dark swordsmanship, and ultimately stands against forces that would make even the mightiest knights tremble.
And yet, mechanically speaking, our hero remains rather conspicuously... a Squire.
A very talented Squire, certainly. But a Squire nonetheless!
The Numinous Knight seeks to remedy this injustice.
(And I don't just mean by giving him his father's fancy title, but reversed, and NONE of the SWEEEET swordsmanship skills!)
As Ramza progresses through the story, his abilities and class identity evolve alongside him. He gradually acquires techniques inspired by the martial traditions he encounters, ultimately becoming a warrior who embodies both holy and dark swordsmanship without being wholly defined by either.
There are four variants available, allowing players to choose between different interpretations and levels of compatibility with other mods.
The aim isn't merely to make Ramza powerful. It's to make his evolution as a character visible in the way he actually fights.
The Numinous Knight — Nexus Mods
But why stop with Ramza?
For too long, some of Ivalice's most remarkable heroes have suffered the indignity of being considerably less impressive in battle than their reputations would suggest.
And so I present Lore-Accurate Party, a companion mod dedicated to making FFT's unique characters more faithful to their established identities.
Cloud Strife, for instance, is a secret character and one of the most legendary swordsmen in the FINAL FANTASY universe. Yet in vanilla FFT, recruiting him often feels like an elaborate practical joke.
I've therefore reimagined him as a composite of his appearances throughout FINAL FANTASY VII and its extended Compilation. His stats, mobility, sword mastery, and Limit Breaks have been substantially enhanced—including a devastating, intelligently targeted five-hit Omnislash, adapted from the original FFVII's fifteen-strike ultimate.
Agrias gains Regal Judgment, a powerful two-strike sword technique.
Orlandeau, being THE swordmaster of Ivalice, can now perform his sword techniques with Katanas and other appropriate swords. Because of course he can. He's THUNDER GOD-DAMNED CID.
Reis can now follow her elemental Breath attacks with corresponding Summons—including Bahamut!
Mustadio gains Barrage and an expanded arsenal of Rend techniques.
Rapha can cast her Sky Mantras instantly.
And Marach (our poor, neglected Marach) finally has a reason to exist beyond testing the player's patience. His Nether Mantras now intelligently track valid LIVING targets across multiple strikes, rather than squandering their potential on empty tiles or fallen enemies, allowing his unusual inverse-Faith damage mechanic to shine. Build him with low Faith, and you'll discover a fearsome anti-magic specialist.
Meliadoul also receives expanded weapon compatibility for her Unyielding Blade techniques.
And for those who want Cloud to be even more absurdly powerful, there's an optional patch that makes all eight of his Limit Breaks instantaneous.
Lore-Accurate Party — Nexus Mods
UNFORTUNATELY, I must also warn you that the main version of The Numinous Knight does not always play nicely with other mods in our increasingly crowded FFT modding community.
And the reason is something rather mundane:
We're all fighting over the same precious scraps of dummied-out game data real estate!
You see, there's only so much unused space available for creating new abilities and other custom content. As more talented modders continue expanding the game, we're inevitably going to find ourselves trying to occupy the same bits of Ivalice.
And unlike the War of the Lions, this is a conflict in which I'd very much prefer that EVERYONE wins.
That's precisely why I created Numinous Knight of the East (NKOTE) and Numinous Knight: The Spellblade (NK:TS).
These are alternative interpretations of Ramza's evolution, designed to reduce conflicts by making use of existing abilities and avoiding some of the contested dummy-data space.
There's also True Numinous Knight of the East, which expands upon the Eastern approach with additional custom techniques, but naturally introduces its own compatibility considerations.
So please, choose the version that best suits your preferred gameplay experience and mod collection!
There's one more possibility I've been considering.
Some of you will be familiar with Dark Knight & Onion Knight for Generics (DK&OK), another excellent effort to expand what FFT has to offer. One that I myself brought attention to.
I would LOVE to make a special compatibility edition of The Numinous Knight specifically designed to work alongside DK&OK, potentially reusing the abilities and data already supplied by that mod rather than competing for the same space.
And naturally, there's only one possible name:
NUMINOUS KNIGHT... OF THE COMMUNITY!
However, I want to be absolutely clear about something.
I would only do this with the original author's explicit permission.
I've already reached out to them through Nexus Mods but haven't received a response yet.
That's perfectly alright! Everybody has lives, responsibilities, and projects of their own, and I certainly don't want anyone to feel pressured into responding. But for those wondering this is why right now the MAIN file of NUMINOUS KNIGHT is NOT compatible with DK and OK for GENERICS!
HOWEVER: Numinous Knight of the East and Numinous Knight: The Spell Blade are specifically for wider community compatibility!
That said for DK&OK For Generics’ author, I respect the work they've put into their mod, and I have no intention of incorporating or redistributing their work without their blessing.
So for the time being, Numinous Knight... of the Community! remains merely a hopeful possibility.
After all, what kind of community project would it be if it began by disregarding the wishes of another community member?
Ah, but my loquacious Lucavi, did you truly believe that was ALL I had planned?
There are two more projects I've been plotting under the Knights of the Unvext Dusk banner.
The first is none other than the actual Knights of the Unvext Dusk themselves!
An original knightly order, complete with its own lore, martial traditions, and unique combat identities. Something I've been imagining for quite some time, and which I hope to eventually bring to life within Ivalice.
And the second?
Well...
Let's just say there's a particular character in FFT whose relationship with a certain wiley, treacherous old goat and Ramza, never quite really got fleshed out in the lore.
I intend to give him a RADDical makeover.
Those of you sufficiently familiar with Ivalice's more famous and liked female lackeys might know who I’m talking about. 😉
Unfortunately, these projects will have to wait a little while.
You see, I've encountered a particularly fearsome opponent in the real world. One against whom no amount of Bravery, Faith, Swordplay, or even a Zodiac Stone seems especially effective.
UNEMPLOYMENT.
And living in Japan, where my life here depends on my visa, this is very inconvenient, my ambitions for rebalancing and reinventing Ivalice will have to remain somewhat restrained!
So no promises about release dates just yet. But the ideas are there, and I very much look forward to bringing them to life.
Both mods are available for the PC version of FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: The Ivalice Chronicles, using Reloaded-II and Nenkai's FFTIC Mod Loader.
They're designed to complement one another, and the downloads include installation instructions.
I also owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the modding community, whose work has helped make all of this possible.
I've spent a great many years enjoying this game, and it's enormously satisfying to finally contribute something of my own.
Another bout of thanks to Square-Enix, I've had my gripes about how FFT:IC was released, they should have appreciated Yasumi Matsuno a lot more and given him much more room to iterate on his story. However, I am glad I had someone finally gift the game to me a year ago and that allowed me to start modding it the same way I did a few years ago thanks to the FFT Hacktics community and their tools!
So, fellow Reddit Woods Hob-Gobs, I invite you to try these creations and tell me what you think. Your feedback, suggestions, and tales of glorious battlefield encounters with the characters and party YOU DESERVE are most welcome.
Now go forth, and may your blades be ever sharp and your Zodiac Stones shiny.
— SolidSnakeFHC | Heroic 1st
Edit: It seems that some people will inevitably be upset with AI usage in the creation of mods and other things, so I’ll address it only once. Yes, I a novice coder, on my own with no one to advise me, using AI spent weeks of my free TIME, hunched over my PC, going back and forth debugging the game, having to learn more about code to try different approaches for implementation, running into different problems that I had to come up with work-arounds for and carefully making sure that I did not infringe upon the community or their code when I implemented. Never mind that all the creative design, technical direction, game design and balance for the mod, writing for the extra lore, art direction and game-testing all come from, or were directly done by, me. I just managed to accomplish with AI what I would not have been able to accomplish unless I had a small team of very knowledgeable coders and programmers.
You don’t like AI usage? Cool, I’m not interested in convincing you. You have your opinion and are entitled to it. You don’t have to use my mod, or look at my posts. That said this isn’t really the place to discuss your pro OR anti-ai stance. It isn’t really within the scope of the discussion of FFT or the mods for it.
You want to tell me my mod sucks and explain why based on criticism of design, go right ahead!, I can respect that, it’s on topic at least. (I appreciate admirers endorsements much more and know that people who have actually used AI to make anything of this scale, specially on their own, understand just what kind of an undertaking it is.) That will be the one and only time I address any comments about that, I consider it a massive waste of time.

I’m retrying the fight on belias tor for the 6th time now. I have half a mind to give up and drop the difficulty down to squire.
I’m finding a hard time grasping the mechanics of the game. My monk is doing pitiful damage while my summoner is dying on turn 2. But the story is really the only thing keeping me going. I love those classic ff stories.

I really enjoyed my time with it overall especially the gameplay. There's a really nice sense of solid progression throughout the game. I've never really played games of this sort before but I felt like it was intuitive enough for me to get to grips with it and have fun experimenting with different skills / abilities.
I do have some complaints but a lot of them tend to be about qol stuff like I wish I could pause whenever I wanted but overall I'm really surprised by how much I enjoyed the gameplay, I rarely play turn-based games at all and when I do it tends to be for the story while the combat is something I just tolerate but here I thought it was excellent.
Speaking of the story I do have some very mixed opinions on it. I do think it easily has the best dialogue out of any final fantasy game I've played (15,16,Remakes). There was a lot of effort put into making the dialogue seem time appropriate and I think it pays off. The voice acting as well was excellent.
Unfortunately I think the character writing was under baked overall and fairly weak. It feels like characters mostly stop having character development as soon as they join your party fully.
I know it's a final fantasy game but I think the story would have been better served if the focused stayed on the political conflict/tensions with the feudal system of the setting rather than some of the high fantasy elements that take center stage in the latter part of the story.
I was more invested in the corpse brigade and the initial premise of the story compared to the church/Lucavi.
It's unfortunate because I was really invested in the story at the start. The premise seemed really strong. A nation that lost an extremely elongated costly war and the severe social consequences that can have on that nation's hierarchy.
I felt like they were so much interesting drama for the story to explore with Ramza and his brothers especially with him being baseborn. Delita and his sister also added an interesting dimension that could have been explored. I was really hoping the story would have explored that stuff more.
Still a great game overall. The gameplay is too good for it to be anything less than that imo but I was a bit underwhelmed by the story.

I played FFT A2 years ago, but otherwise this is my first time with FF Tactics.
I played on Tactician and got my ass absolutely kicked until I got Arithmetician.
Now I just start out every fight by turning half the enemies into Toads and every fight is incredibly easy.
Dancer achieves mostly the same thing, just slower.
There really weren't too many points when I thought "wow this is balanced." I was either getting my ass beat or I was beating ass.
Is this how it's supposed to work?

So I am playing final fantasy tactics for the first time and I'm playing the war of the Lions version. I've just begun, and I'm at the second encounter at Mandalia. I want to save the Argath but he's dying before I can even get a turn or if I do get a turn he dies on the second round. I watched some tutorials and I'm seeing people using bows but when I go to the shop they don't have those for sale? Did I miss something? Should I pick the callus remark of saying his life doesn't matter?
