Okay, so this is unorthodox and maybe too niche, but that's why I'm coming to ask you fine people directly.
I am a pilot. I like to read, yes, but I also need to jot down notes, instructions, etc. While I do have an iPad, I prefer to keep it dedicated to navigation, additionally, at night, it can be jarring on the vision, despite various methods to reduce the impact.
I would love to have an eReader that allows me to bring my books on trips, but also has writing capabilities, so that I can use it as the primary note taking tool in the cockpit, especially at night or in low light conditions where preserving your vision is critical. An eReader is much less harsh. That, paired with typically great battery life, is why I'm pursuing this route.
I haven't researched stylus options to know whether a battery free solution is viable - I have an Apple pen and despise that thing as it requires frequent recharging at the most inopprtune times.
Budget and size aren't much of a factor. I don't want to add something too expensive for the sake of it when a viable cheaper alternative exists. It doesn't need to be a color reader, but it's okay if one checks the boxes. Ideally, it should be reasonably performant so I can quickly bounce between notes. If there's significant delay in navigation, that might be a no go.
I forget all of the devices at Best Buy I put my mitts on, but the Kobo Color stood out to me as being reasonably snappy. I feel like they had some reMarkable stuff too. But again, I defer to the community for its infinite wisdom.
