Discussion Trying to lose the last bit of belly fat while still gaining muscle.

HEY guys I'm about 5'9" 160lb. Somewhere between 17%-20% body fat. Having hard time getting rid of this last little bit of belly fat so I decided to start meal prepping.

I'm shooting for 1900 calories and 140g of protein.

As far as carbs and fats I don't know what targets to aim for or if they even matter as much as calories/protein.

Any advice or critiques are much more than welcomed. Thank you guys.

Other Help! I’ve never packed lunch before and need recs for things I could add for protein and fiber :)

I’m looking for about 500-600 calories in my lunch.
Aiming for ~15g fiber and ~30g protein.

I’ll take any ideas (aside protein bars) , but preferably foods that are packaged, or can be contained in Tupperware. Preferably purchasable at Kroger or Publix! Thank you all so much :)

Please note!! I am vegetarian. 🌱

Discussion I stopped treating every meal like progress

I used to think one meal that didn't fit my plans meant i'd messed up the whole day. that mindset made eating feel way more stressful than it needed to be. now i'm trying to look at my habits over time instead of judging every single meal. i'm still figuring it out, especially when i fall back into old routines. has changing how you think about individual meals made sticking to your diet any easier?

I was originally eating at 2800kcal and losing weight and then I started eating at 3250kcal and was gaining like half a kilo a week so I decided to start eating at 3100kcal but now I’m losing/maintaining and I have dropped in energy in the past two gym sessions. I’m trying to lean bulk.

Diet Eval Trying to eat healthier than I was, is what I’m doing good/helpful?

First off, a disclaimer, I know my diet is still NOT healthy and lacking in many ways. But it is better than it has been for the last 12 years of my life.

For the last 3 weeks, I’ve dedicated myself to minimal improvements (or what I think are improvements?) to try and become healthier.

I’ve gone from 1-4 servings of fruit a month (if any tbh, I went years without any fruit or vegetables whatsoever and only recently this year started eating some fruit every month) but now I’m at 7-9 servings of fruit a week. 5-6 of those servings are kiwi and the other two servings have been either apples, blackberries, or blueberries. I basically buy 7 kiwis then two servings of one fruit but that fruit will be different each week and a fruit I like/can tolerate (which rn is literally just blueberries, blackberries, apples, and grapes) and so as you can see each week I’ve cycled the second fruit.

I try to eat a dinner with mainly protein once a day, not too sure how much protein I get on average every day though. I was tracking as best I could through myfitnesspal a few months back and averaged like 40g of protein I believe?

I only drink one can of soda every 2-3 days, and I have been implementing that since 2-3 months ago. I also eat yogurt 3x a week, and ik it’s not the healthiest yogurt but it’s the only one I like and it’s mocha tiramisu Chobani yogurt. I also drink around 3 cups of orange juice a week. I’m trying to add in at least one seafood meal a week, salmon or shrimp specifically. And I try to limit junk food (cookies, chips, etc.) to at most 3 servings a day but it’s been kind of difficult.

I also do have vitamins I take. I take a multivitamin around 3x a week, iron pill 2-3x a week, and a d&k vitamin 3x a week. I don’t get outside enough or eat food with much vitamin K/D and lots of other vitamins in the multivitamin and iron so I just try to take some.

And I do eat what is considered maintenance for my weight, although I think I’m skinny fat because I do have a bit of a gut (my stomach protrudes bro…) and it was looking a bit better/more toned when I was lightly active and working out 5 days a week for around 6 months but I’ve gotten lazy and haven’t done anything for 3 months now and it shows 😭i’m hoping eating better will help with any bloating that may contribute but we’ll see ig

Question Requesting recommendations?

I’m currently in a situation where I’m unemployed and have been staying my folks to not burn through my savings. That being said I’m heavily reliant on their cooking and while delicious I’m lacking in fiber and overall variety.

What easy to prep for storage / frozen bulk items do you use to keep that protein and fiber up in your diet ? I’m noticing that those carbs are easily slipping into my cravings and I’m sure it’s because I’m just not eating enough of that protein.

I think this is the correct thread to ask.

Question Constant food noise while lean bulking

Currently, I (21F) am lean bulking at 2,100 calories. I’ve been ā€œfood bankingā€ my calories to ensure my bulk is lean and I stick to my calorie target.

Often, me and my friends will eat out, leading to an unexpected 1,200-calorie meal. This makes it hard for me to know if I should have evenly spaced meals of 500–600 calories throughout the day or a coffee for breakfast and light lunch. Often, I come home and have 1,200–1,700 calories left, and this is where the problem comes in.

My eating habits & food noise

I eat almost all whole foods and almost no added sugar/junk foods, besides some low-calorie things (energy drinks, Splenda, sugar-free maple syrup, and sugar-free coffee syrups).

Anyway, I have constant food noise throughout the day, and i'm always thinking about my next meal or what I will eat throughout the week

With the excess calories at the end of the day, I get in the mindset of making the most decadent, delicious desserts. Even though they are still ā€œwhole foods,ā€ I think it’s giving me too much dopamine

For example, yesterday I had 1,300 calories left. I had a massive cream of rice bowl with whey drip, peanut butter cup COR, chocolate whey drip, cocoa powder, Splenda, sugar-free dark chocolate chips, tons of blueberries, 5 bananas, and tons of peanut butter to fill in my fats

Every night, I’ve started looking forward to my nightly desserts, and even after the dessert is eaten, I’m still hungry. I have the self control and never go over 2,100 calories, but I could’ve eaten 8 more bananas or another massive dessert

Even with whole foods, I can eat insane amounts and still never be satisfied.

My current conclusion/ solution

An idea that came up is that I should start making my food disgusting or super plain (e.g., cream of wheat, with kiwi, ketchup, pepper, just super undesirable things to eat) so I don’t crave it, I think this would make my will to eat lower.

I also wonder if I should stop seasoning my lunches and stop adding cinnamon and blueberries to my yogurt for a little while, just to make my food less enjoyable and to eliminate the food noise. Would doing this help, or would it make things worse, or do you have other suggestions?

My questions

  1. What should I do to eliminate food noise?
  2. How long would it take of me eating plain/undesirable food until I can go back to eating normally?
  3. Would my solution work/do you have a better solution/ what should I do?

I can’t live my whole life like this.

Question I need some advice on how to eat more

Im a 18 F, 5'4, and 104 pounds. I need help figuring out how i can eat more. Im pretty sure i dont have an eating disorder because i dont hate food or activity avoid it but i always forget to eat, it started when i was around sophomore year before this my mom had always been the one who reminded me too eat and made my meals, since i have adhd and autism i sometimes got distracted and forgot to eat. But when i got old enough to not really rely on my mom for my meals i started putting eating aside and it became somewhat of a chore for me like something i needed to do cus i obviously didn't wanna randomly pass out from hunger, so i only ate around once a day and im also a picky eater and mostly only ate bread, eggs, rice, and meat occasionally and if i didn't like the food that we had at home that day i just didn't eat(im pretty sure i was only eating 500 calories everyday). My family never eats out. I had been eating like that for 3 years and never really thought anything of it cus i was still eating something. A couple of weeks ago i went out with my friends to a McDonald's. I ordered a Big Mac and could only get 3 bites in before i felt like a was gonna throw up. That was my wake up call i realized i could barely eat most foods now, i feel like throwing up every time i try eating even a normal sized meal. Does anyone know what kind of foods i can eat that can help me gain weight and not throw up? Iv been trying to eat foods that are really high in calories but i can barely eat it. Any advice?
( sorry for the bad spelling and grammar)

Question How on earth do I stick to a calorie deficit?

I find it very difficult, but i manage to do a calorie deficit for most part of the day. The problem is that when night hits, i just loose al motivation and end up binging. The worst part is that i dont even make a huge deficit, only a few hundred calories less (like 300 cals), abd then i end up eating like 1000 more than i should. What do I do? What am I doing wrong? What do you recommend?

Hi, I bought this on sale and now I’m not sure what to do with it. Maybe mug cake instead of sweetener? It is apparently 16x as sweet as sugar so you wouldn’t need much, just wondering if anyone has tried it and has ideas. Thanks!

Question Healthier alternative ideas?

Hello everyone! I love food, love eating, but I've noticed I've taken a bit of a downturn in the healthiness of what I eat. Namely, I crave a "crunchy + sweet" combo everyday, and it usually includes a heavily processed treat (like Swiss Rolls) with a crunchy pairing (like crackers). I'm very open to suggestions about what I can eat instead. Really, I think it's mainly a texture thing. Something about the crunchiness and sweetness scratches an itch. I also really prefer it to be two separate food items, like grapes and crackers as opposed to just a crunchy freeze dried strawberry or something. Any ideas?

What does your realistic meal planning routine look like? i love the idea of having everything planned out for the week, but actually doing it is another story. some days i'm motivated and other days i can barely decide what to eat. i don't want a complicated routine that falls apart the second i'm busy.

Question Is drinking chia seed water during workouts a good way to meet my daily fibre intake?

Hey everyone! I soak 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in water overnight (around 8 hours). The next day, I add the soaked seeds to my 900–950 ml water bottle and drink it throughout my workout. My goal is to increase my daily fibre intake while staying hydrated during exercise.

Is drinking chia seed water throughout my workout a good approach, or would it be better to consume it separately in a glass containing around 400 ml of water? Does the amount of water make any difference to the nutritional benefits? Also, is one tablespoon of chia seeds enough to make a meaningful contribution to my daily fibre intake, or should I focus more on getting fibre from other foods as well?

I'd appreciate hearing from people who regularly consume chia seeds, especially those who include them in their workout routine. Am I doing this correctly, or would you recommend a different approach?
