Interviews Company covering flights and hotel for an interview, irrespective of outcome!

• Upvotes

A company is inviting me to its Noida office for an in-person interview, with all rounds conducted there. I'm currently based in Bangalore, and they will reimburse my travel expenses regardless of the interview outcome and provide accommodation for one night. They are inviting few people from all across India and will be taking 6 rounds of selection process.

Has anyone experienced a similar interview process with any company? I know some companies invite candidates for the final few rounds in person and reimburse travel expenses, but I've never heard of a company bringing candidates in for all interview rounds while covering their travel and accommodation.

Career Please Need a career guidance I m stuck in the loop

• Upvotes

I need some career guidance, so I thought it would be better to ask people who already have work experience.

As you know, AI is playing a huge role in the job market, especially in the software industry. I’ve been searching for a job for almost eight months now. Sometimes I get interview opportunities and even reach the final round, but I end up losing those opportunities. Honestly, I’m feeling stuck, exhausted, and demotivated.

I graduated in 2026, and most of my friends have already started working, while some are pursuing their master’s. Seeing them move forward while I’m still struggling makes me feel like I’m falling behind. I don’t know what to do next. Should I take a break, prepare for government exams, or take up any job I can get? There are jobs like customer service and call centre roles, but sometimes I feel bad about taking one because I’ve always performed well academically, and I never expected to end up in this situation.

I’m also thinking of giving myself the rest of this year to figure things out and possibly pursuing a master’s next year. But Again I m worried gap will be there what will happen and going abroad isn’t an easy option either. I’ve seen many people spend ₹30–40 lakhs on their education and still struggle to find jobs.

I’m genuinely confused about which direction to take. I’d really appreciate your honest advice on what you think I should do in this situation.

General What's one thing about working in IT that you didn't expect when you started?

• Upvotes

When I started working in IT, I thought most of the job would be coding, solving technical problems and learning new tools.

Didn't expect this much time to go into meetings, understanding unclear requirements, explaining things to people and debugging code I didn't write

For people who've been in IT for a while, what's something about the job that genuinely surprised you once you started working?

Career Started as a technical trainee but got allocated to an operations project. Need career advice.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some genuine career advice from people working in the IT industry, especially those who have faced a similar situation.

I joined an IT services company around five months ago as a fresher. During my initial three months of training, I was trained in Java and Spring Boot and completed a project as part of my training, and also have experience in it.

After completing the training, I spent some time waiting for project allocation. Recently, I was assigned to an operations-based project rather than a software development role.

My concern is that I started my career expecting to work in a technical role where I could apply my training, build projects, and improve my programming skills. I'm worried that spending too much time in operations might make it harder to transition into development later.

I'm open to learning other technologies as well, but my long-term goal is to build a career in software development or another technical domain.

I'd appreciate advice on a few things:

\- If you've been in a similar situation, how did you handle it, and what would you recommend?

\- How difficult is it to move from an operations project to a development role within the same company?

\- Should I focus on upskilling and building projects outside work while gaining experience, or consider switching companies after gaining some experience?

I don't want to make any impulsive decisions. I just want to make the right choices early in my career and avoid moving too far away from technical work.

Any honest advice or personal experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!

I Made This I built ClearPDF — 12K installs, 300+ GitHub stars, #2 on Kotlin Trending

Hey everyone! I'm a CSE student at VIT Vellore, and I've been building ClearPDF, an open-source Android document app.

What started as a project of mine has grown more than I expected. ClearPDF crossed 12,000 installs in a week, reached 300+ GitHub stars, and today it ranked #2 on GitHub Trending in Kotlin.

The main thing I wanted to get right was the experience. Most document apps focus on functionality, but I wanted to build something that looks modern too. ClearPDF has a Liquid Glass-inspired UI on Android, with a focus on smooth performance and a clean UX.

Another big priority was making it 100% offline, so you can work with your documents without needing an internet connection.

It supports PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, and images, with features like PDF editing and annotation, document scanning, Word document viewing, and XLSX spreadsheet editing.

I've also spent a lot of time fixing reported issues and improving performance across releases.

The project is MIT-licensed, and I'd love to see more developers get involved.

GitHub: https://github.com/Chethan616/ClearPDF

Latest release: https://github.com/Chethan616/ClearPDF/releases/latest

If you're interested in Android development, open source, or building polished apps, feel free to check it out. Contributions are welcome!

Thanks for all the support so far!

General Looking for Real-Life Problems to Solve Through an Interactive Tech Project

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm looking for real-life problems that could be solved or improved through technology for a project I'm working on.
It could be anything from repetitive tasks at work or college to everyday inconveniences, things that waste your time, or problems you wish had a better solution.
I'm especially interested in interactive tools, apps, or digital experiences that could make everyday life easier.

For example:
An app that simplifies a frustrating daily task.

An interactive tool that helps people make decisions or stay organised.

A better way to manage something people currently do manually.

Something you wish existed but haven't found a good solution for yet.

If you could have one interactive app or digital tool that solved a real problem in your life, what would it be?
It doesn't have to be a big or complicated idea. Even the smallest inconvenience could inspire something useful.

I'd love to hear your experiences, ideas, and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Suggestions Got a .NET developer role after a technical interview, but ended up in product support. Need suggestions

Hi everyone, looking for some career advice.

I have around 3 years of experience in .NET development, working with C#. I switched jobs because I wanted to move away from proprietary framework dependency and build skills relevant to top product-based companies.

I cleared the technical interview for a .NET developer role at my current company, but after joining, I was allocated to a Tier-1 product support team with practically no coding.

My current situation:

No development: I'm worried about my technical skills stagnating and my resume becoming less relevant for development roles.

Rotational shifts: Morning, evening, and night shifts, with rotational weekends. Maintaining a consistent routine is difficult.

Constant urgency: Almost every ticket is marked urgent. Frequent interruptions cause anxiety, and I sometimes feel stressed about work even on my days off.

Preparation time: The potential advantage is that I might get time outside working hours to prepare for interviews, although the shifts and mental fatigue make consistency difficult.

I've spoken to my manager about moving to development, but there are currently no backend opportunities in my team. I'm exploring internal openings and have also started a small personal AI/Support Copilot POC to keep learning.

I'm now confused about what to do next.

What would you recommend?

Switch immediately: Start applying externally and move to another development role, even if it's not my dream company.

Look for internal opportunities: Continue in support while trying to move into a development role within the organization.

Continue as I am: Use the salary and available time to prepare seriously for Microsoft/Amazon-level interviews, then make a switch when I'm ready.

I went through a long interview process because I wanted to improve my career prospects. I expected the switch to bring me closer to my goal of becoming a stronger backend engineer.

Instead, I feel like I've moved away from that goal.

I know that a job isn't everything, and I'm fortunate to be employed. But it's difficult not to feel disappointed when the work doesn't align with what you've spent years preparing for.

For those who've experienced something similar, how damaging is 6–12 months in support after 3 years of development experience?

I don't want to make another rushed career decision, but I'm also worried about getting stuck in support and losing my development skills.

Would appreciate some honest advice.

Suggestions Need advice and opinions on gap strategy and break after an anticipated layoff

So I have been laid off last week. LWD was 6th oct. It was my first company. Knew it was coming but still felt bad. I am kinda confident on my skills and projects but not very much. Still new to this interview prep grind after 2.9 years from this first job thru campus placement. Started applying as soon as I felt that it was gonna happen in late july. Not actively though. Prepared resume, projects etc. Got shortlisted for assessment by some good orgs as well. But couldnt clear final round due to notice period of 2 months I felt. Now coming to today, I am tired of this grind for almost 2.5 years now. Last job had terrible WLB and hence not very sad of layoff. The plan is can I take a break of 1, 2 months as its the first time I dont have any commitments in a long time. Planning to solo trip for a month almost and prep after coming home. Lets say it may take sometime for new offers and worst case scenario is 3 months, so January.

Now I want your advice, and opinions on whether this is okay or I should stop wondering abt breaks and trips and get next job asap??

I can do that as well but it would be the same corporate BS again with a higher pay. I am getting good hike interviews but its 5 days wfo. And not so great orgs as of now. Can get better orgs too i believe but I am afraid I will lose my negotiation power with 1,2,3 month break.

Will this gap be a big problem in future or next job? Salary negotiation and expectation wise.

I am also planning to upskill myself in a month after the break.

TLDR : Can a 2,3 month gap affect ctc expectation and offer negotiation after a layoff, given the gap is willingly taken for a break and upskilling. I am a 2.6 yoe AI engineer. Pls advise 🙏 if not this then what other thing i can do.

Help How do I grow as a Senior Frontend / Full Stack engineer? Which stack, system design topics, and projects should I build?

Hi all,

I’m a Frontend Engineer with ~4.5 YOE (React, Vue, TypeScript, JavaScript, Electron, some Node.js), working as an SSE at a mid-sized Bangalore startup. I built an Electron desktop app from scratch at my previous company, which shut down due to funding issues.

I’m targeting product companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Adobe and Intuit/Rippling. Pure frontend openings are few, and my backend experience is limited, so I want to grow both as a senior frontend engineer and as a full stack engineer. I learn best by building, so I’d love suggestions I can actually build and learn from.

Questions

  1. Senior frontend growth: what separates a senior frontend engineer from a mid-level one? Which areas matter most (frontend system design, performance, accessibility, design systems, testing, build tooling, architecture)?
  2. Backend stack: given my React/TS/Node.js background, should I go deeper with Node.js + TypeScript (NestJS/Express/Fastify), or learn something like Go, Java or Python? Does it matter for big-tech interviews?
  3. Backend fundamentals: what should I learn, and in what order? Databases and SQL design, indexing, caching (Redis), queues, auth, REST/GraphQL/WebSockets, Docker, cloud basics, observability.
  4. System design: what are the best resources for frontend and backend system design at the 4-5 YOE level, and how deep do interviewers go?
  5. What to build: which projects teach real backend skills and also look credible on a resume?
  6. Positioning: how do I present myself as full stack when my backend experience is limited, without overselling?
  7. Roadmap: if you had 3-4 months, how would you split time between DSA, system design and building projects?

Any roadmap, resources or personal experience of making this transition would be really helpful. Thanks!

Help Should I join a company with 1 year training and 3 year bond

So I am a fresher in B.tech (IT) from a tier 3 college and I am getting interviewed for a company for associate consultant. But this company first trains in oracle cloud and workday for an year with a stipend 12000 then, 3 year bond with 4.3 lpa. So I don't know if I should be accepting or rejecting the company.

So I want to know from the persons in this field what are the possibilities about this role and this technology in the market would I be able to land a better job after whole 4 years or should I try for another company but I am not confident with other companies. Because my dsa is not very strong.

But this company is taking students on purely aptitude and communication skills. So I don't know if I can land another job or not. So please someone will be kind to share their experience about this role these technologies their future prospects.

I Made This I built a CLI that tells you how efficiently your GPU is actually training your model

I built a CLI that tells you how efficiently your GPU is actually training your model

GPU utilization is easy to measure. Understanding how effectively your hardware is being used for training is a different problem.

I built Calibrate, a GPU training efficiency analyzer for NVIDIA and Apple Silicon, to help bridge that gap.

The goal is to go beyond utilization percentages and help answer questions like:

  • What's my Model FLOP Utilization (MFU)?
  • Where is my training pipeline losing time?
  • What changes could improve training throughput?
  • How do different inference runtimes compare?
  • How should I configure and plan my next fine-tuning run?

You can attach it to a running training job:

calibrate watch --pid 38291

Or let it detect the process automatically:

calibrate watch --auto

It also supports benchmarking inference runtimes and planning fine-tuning runs.

Calibrate is my attempt to make that process easier, whether you're experimenting on a Mac or training on NVIDIA GPUs.

GitHub: https://github.com/PrajwalAmte/Calibrate

I'd love feedback from people working on model training or inference. What metrics or diagnostics do you wish your current tools exposed?

General How to get into Cybersecurity as a final year student?

Hello everyone I am a final year Btech student and I am interested in cybersecurity.

I did not really get into it during my college time because I knew it is a difficult field for freshers to get into and I was scared about the job market. Luckily I am placed now (Infosys SP-L1) and I wanted to try and get into cybersecurity. So I have some questions.

1)Where to study from?
2)What are some good entry level certifications?
3) How do people get entry level experience in this field and how difficult it is to get into?

Help Can I negotiate my comp at Google for L4 level after accepting the offer?

Hi everyone,

I recently received an offer from Google for an L4 Applied Solutions Architect role, but I’m concerned that my Google Stock Units (GSUs) are significantly lower than what others joining at the same level and in a similar role are receiving.

Here’s what happened:

  • Initially, the recruiter told me that my stock grant would be around $20K. I pushed back, saying that it seemed low, and within a couple of hours, she came back with an offer of $28.5K in GSUs.
  • At the time, I accepted the revised offer, assuming that this was probably the maximum they could offer.
  • Recently, I spoke with a couple of people who joined Google in the last six months in the same role, and they mentioned receiving more than $50K in GSUs.
  • My base salary, on the other hand, is roughly on par with what I understand Google L4 software engineers receive.

Given this information, I’m wondering whether my stock grant is significantly below the current range for this role and level.

I’ve also come across Reddit discussions suggesting that Google sometimes addresses compensation disparities during annual performance review cycles. However, I’m not sure how reliable that is or whether it would make sense to wait for my first review.

I’d appreciate advice on a few questions:

  1. Should I try to renegotiate my GSU grant now, or wait until my first performance review? Is there a realistic chance of getting the grant adjusted after joining?
  2. Since I’ve already accepted the offer, is it still possible to negotiate? Could reopening compensation discussions create any issues with the recruiter or jeopardize the offer?
  3. How common is it for Google L4 employees to receive significantly different stock grants for the same role, especially when they join around the same time?
  4. If I decide to negotiate now, what would be the best way to approach the recruiter without making the conversation awkward?

I’m excited about the opportunity and don’t want to risk the offer unnecessarily, but the difference between $28.5K and $50K+ is substantial.

Would really appreciate insights from current or former Google employees, especially those familiar with compensation negotiations for L4 roles.

Thanks!

Help First freelance job: one-page site for an indie magazine with a lot of custom art. What should I quote?

Hey everyone. I’m a designer and this is my first real freelance job. A client sent a long brief for a one-page site for her print magazine. I’m only designing the UI/UX, not building it. I have no idea what to charge for the design side, so I’m hoping you can help.

  • All the art is custom and made by me (stickers, starbursts, doodles, cut-outs, mascots). The client strictly doesn’t want AI art or stock. My art is pretty detailed, so each piece takes real time. You can see my style here: https://vishejeetportfolio.vercel.app/
  • The brief wants a different look for every section, so I can’t reuse a template. The style is 90s ad meets Y2K, loud and collage-like.
  • The buy section needs two designed states, sales open and sales closed.
  • She sent two reference videos with 3D-style animation, page transitions, cursor effects and video backgrounds. I’d have to design and explain all of that for a developer.
  • Everything has to work in mobile, tablet and desktop layouts.
  • The brief asks for a full handoff pack, so a developer can build it without guessing.

Page sections I’m designing

  • Hero with logo, tagline and a big visual
  • Clear path from the hero to the buy section
  • About section
  • “What’s inside the mag” preview (spreads, images, snippets)
  • Monthly buy section with two states: sales open (live buy button) and sales closed (holding state that sends people to the newsletter)
  • Newsletter sign-up with a value pitch and a success message
  • Contact section (form, email link, or both, still undecided)
  • Menu that jumps to each section
  • Mobile, tablet and desktop layouts

Design and custom art (all by me, no AI)

  • Stickers, starbursts, doodles, cut-outs and callouts
  • Mascots or caricatures, if needed
  • Cut-out photography and editorial image treatment
  • Oversized type, loud colour blocks, layered and asymmetric layouts
  • A different look per section that still feels like one brand
  • Temporary placeholders for any unfinished art, replaced before handoff

Motion and 3D (from her reference videos)

  • Designing and explaining scroll animations and moving stickers
  • Cursor-reactive effects on the artwork
  • Page transitions between sections
  • Draggable carousel
  • Real 3D (flipping cards or a 3D magazine)
  • Video backgrounds
  • A lighter version for phones

I’m planning to offer three levels (simple animation, medium, full 3D) so she picks. The more motion she wants, the more design and explaining it takes.

Brand rules

  • Logo used exactly as supplied, no redrawing or recolouring
  • Hi-res transparent logo and alternate versions for non-green backgrounds
  • Fixed 7-colour palette (neon green, magenta, bubblegum pink, aqua, butter yellow, black, white)
  • Contrast checks, especially neon on pastel
  • Custom fonts (original files and web-use licences needed)
  • Body font options are Apple’s SF and SF Mono, which need checking for web use

Accessibility and usability (design side)

  • Readable body text and easy-to-use forms and menu
  • Alt text suggestions for images
  • Clear heading structure, page title, meta description and share preview image text

Handoff to the developer

  • Editable design file
  • Exported assets
  • Font and licence notes
  • Responsive layouts
  • Short guide for updating the monthly sale info

What would you quote for the design side of all this? A rough range for the base design, the custom art and the motion/3D design would help a lot.

Thanks in advance, really appreciate any advice.

Suggestions New backend engineer here, how would you approach optimizing a slow API?

Hey everyone!
I’m fairly new to working with production backend systems, and I’ve been given a task to look into the performance of an existing service and figure out where improvements might be possible.
The service handles a few different things, including business logic evaluation, configuration management, automated workflows, data processing, and logging. Some API requests are taking longer than expected, and I’d like to understand what’s causing the delay and what could be done to improve things.
I don’t want to jump straight into suggesting random optimizations without understanding the actual problem first, so I’d love to hear from people who’ve dealt with similar situations.

A few things I’m curious about:
-When you encounter a slow API, where do you usually start? Profiling, distributed tracing, database analysis, or something else?
-How do you figure out whether the bottleneck is in the application logic, database queries, repeated computations, or calls to other services?
-What common performance issues have you come across in systems that deal with configurable business logic?
-When does it make sense to consider caching, parallel execution, or moving certain operations to background jobs?
-How do you identify worthwhile improvements in an existing codebase without risking changes to its existing behaviour?

Since I’m still early in my career, I’d really appreciate hearing how you’d approach this in a real-world environment. If you’ve worked on something similar, I’d love to know what worked for you, what didn’t, and any tools or resources you’d recommend.
Thankyouu in advance

TL;DR: I’m a new backend engineer looking into why some API requests are slow and how to identify potential performance improvements. I’d appreciate practical advice on finding bottlenecks, choosing the right profiling tools, and deciding which optimizations are worth recommending.

Help 1 YOE Android/KMP dev, worried I look like "just another AI-assisted junior." How do I show I actually own things?

Hey all, looking for some honest advice.

Quick background: I'm an Android dev with a little over a year of full-time experience, plus a 5-month internship. BCA grad, not from a big-name college. I work mostly in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and Kotlin Multiplatform, and I also write the Go backend services for the features I build.

Right now I'm at a startup working on a consumer app with 1M+ downloads. The work itself is good. I've fixed payment bugs that were making paying users lose access, rebuilt our ad install attribution, and shipped features end to end from the app to the backend. My manager trusts me with this kind of work and says so openly. But the pay is under 5 LPA, which is well below market, and I want to move somewhere that pays fairly.

My worry is the market. Entry-level openings are way down, teams are shrinking, and the common take is that AI can do what juniors do. I use AI tools every day, but I'm the one who owns the result. When something breaks in production, I'm the one tracing it and fixing it.

The problem is that every candidate says "I take ownership" and "I'm accountable." So my questions:

  1. How do you actually show ownership on a resume or in an interview so it doesn't come across as a buzzword?
  2. Hiring managers: what makes a 1–2 YOE candidate stand out to you right now, compared with someone who just knows how to prompt an AI tool?

Happy to share an anonymized resume if that helps. Thanks in advance!

Career Career advice: Target FAANG-level companies or build an AI product? 5yoe

I’m trying to decide where to focus my efforts over the next 1–2 years.
I see two possible paths:
Option 1: Target FAANG-level companies
Prepare for interviews and aim for companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, or other top-tier tech companies for better compensation, brand value, and long-term career growth.
Option 2: Build something with AI
Use my software engineering skills to build an AI product, validate a real problem, and potentially turn it into a business. This has higher uncertainty but potentially greater upside and independence.
I’m not necessarily looking to quit my job or take a huge financial risk. The question is where to invest most of my time and energy.
For people who have experience in big tech or have built AI startups:
Which path would you prioritize, and why?
Is building AI products a realistic opportunity for an individual developer today, or is the market already too crowded?
Would you focus on career growth first and build on the side, or go all-in on one direction?
What would you do differently if you were starting today?
I’m looking for honest opinions, including harsh truths and lessons from personal experience, rather than generic motivational advice.

Help My Team Isn't Assigning Me Tickets While Another Fresher Gets Individual Ownership Despite Joining Around the Same Time

My team initially explained that they couldn't assign me tickets because the project is complex and, as a fresher, I might face performance-related concerns from the PM.

However, another fresher joined around the same time as me and is working on the same project, yet his team has started assigning him at least one ticket per sprint. Meanwhile, my team keeps asking me to work with other team members on their tickets instead of giving me individual ownership.

This situation is starting to bother me because I feel like I'm not getting the same opportunity to learn, take responsibility, and demonstrate my abilities. It feels like my team is extracting work from me without giving me ownership of any tickets.

I'm not sure how to approach this anymore. Should I discuss this directly with my team lead, and if so, how can I bring it up without sounding like I'm comparing myself to the other fresher or complaining about my workload?
