Suggestions Thinking of going back to IT, after a year of break.

I was working in an IT Service company in the COE dept and have experience with Gen AI, Langchain and RAG architecture with around 4 yoe.

In mid 2025 the work was exhausting I used to have continuous panic attacks and one day I woke up with chest pain, luckily it wasn't that serious of health issues but I was diagnosed with chronic health problems which seemed unmanageable at that time. So I quit, rested well, not really better mentally but at least those panic attacks stopped.

Now I'm thinking of going back to work, my friends tell me that it is worse from before. I'm confused about going back.

I'm very unsure if I should go back to these GenAI technologies or should I try something else, what would be other options if I want to change the domain? How are you all managing your work with all this AI bs?

Career Career advice: Target FAANG-level companies or build an AI product? 5yoe

I’m trying to decide where to focus my efforts over the next 1–2 years.
I see two possible paths:
Option 1: Target FAANG-level companies
Prepare for interviews and aim for companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, or other top-tier tech companies for better compensation, brand value, and long-term career growth.
Option 2: Build something with AI
Use my software engineering skills to build an AI product, validate a real problem, and potentially turn it into a business. This has higher uncertainty but potentially greater upside and independence.
I’m not necessarily looking to quit my job or take a huge financial risk. The question is where to invest most of my time and energy.
For people who have experience in big tech or have built AI startups:
Which path would you prioritize, and why?
Is building AI products a realistic opportunity for an individual developer today, or is the market already too crowded?
Would you focus on career growth first and build on the side, or go all-in on one direction?
What would you do differently if you were starting today?
I’m looking for honest opinions, including harsh truths and lessons from personal experience, rather than generic motivational advice.

Help Looking for a Learning Partner to Start AI Engineering from Scratch Together !

Hey everyone! I’m a BTech CSE graduate currently working in Growth & Performance Marketing, but I really want to transition into tech, specifically AI Engineering.

The problem? I keep getting distracted and haven’t been able to get past Python basics. 😭

I’m looking for someone who’s on a similar journey and wants to learn together from scratch, stay accountable, discuss concepts, build projects, and figure out the roadmap together.

If you’ve made this transition or are already working in AI, I’d really appreciate your guidance on where and how to start.

Anyone in the same boat? Let’s connect and figure this out together!

Career Please Clarify This — Did I Dodge the AI Bullet or Miss My Chance?

• Upvotes

I’m a Computer Science graduate currently working at a startup as an Operations and Offline Marketing Associate. I couldn’t get placed in IT, so I ended up in a different field.

Sometimes I tell myself that IT is overcrowded and AI is disrupting the industry, so maybe things happened for the best. But when I compare myself with my peers in IT, I still feel disappointed.

Honestly, did I unknowingly escape a difficult future in IT, or am I just trying to console myself after missing my opportunity? I’d appreciate honest opinions.

Career 4th-year CSE student confused between AI/ML and Data Analytics. Need genuine career advice.

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm currently in my 4th year of B.Tech in Computer Science (AI & ML), and honestly, I'm feeling quite confused about what I should do next. So far, I've mainly worked on websites and apps, but to be honest, a lot of that development involved AI tools and vibe coding. I haven't explored things deeply enough to feel confident in my technical skills. Recently, I've become interested in AI/ML, especially building and working with machine learning models. However, I've never actually built an ML model from scratch or worked extensively with real datasets. I'm also considering learning Data Analytics (SQL, Python, Excel, Power BI, etc.) and applying for entry-level jobs because I want to start my career soon and become financially independent. My main goal is to find a relevant job with decent pay, good learning opportunities, and long-term career growth. I also want to develop genuine technical skills rather than just relying on AI tools to build things. I'd really appreciate some honest advice from people who are already working in these fields. A few questions I have:

As a fresher, should I focus on AI/ML engineering or Data Analytics? Which field offers more realistic entry-level opportunities in India right now? Is it worth investing time in Data Analytics to get my first job while learning AI/ML alongside it? What skills and projects should I focus on over the next 6–12 months to become employable? If you were in my position, what would you do differently?

I'm not looking for shortcuts or overnight success. I just want to choose a direction, build solid skills, and make the most of the time I have left in college. Any genuine advice, personal experiences, or suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks!

Help Help me evaluate my offer Google L4 | Currently at FAANG+

Hi all,

I am working at a FAANG+ company with total 3.5 YOE with a 50 LPA CTC. I have received an offer for Google L4 with the following comp -

- base: 39-42 LPA + 3 LPA PF
- bonus: 15% of base
- stocks: $60k USD vested over 4 years (38, 32, 20, 10)

Total first year comp: approx 71 LPA first year

Now here's the tradeoff - my current role is fully remote giving me a lot of flexibility. I feel 71 LPA is a bit of lowball.

  1. thoughts on the offer?
  2. what can I do to negotiate it to 90-95 ?
  3. is there a possibility of applying to google europe openings?

Help Can I negotiate my comp at Google for L4 level after accepting the offer?

Hi everyone,

I recently received an offer from Google for an L4 Applied Solutions Architect role, but I’m concerned that my Google Stock Units (GSUs) are significantly lower than what others joining at the same level and in a similar role are receiving.

Here’s what happened:

  • Initially, the recruiter told me that my stock grant would be around $20K. I pushed back, saying that it seemed low, and within a couple of hours, she came back with an offer of $28.5K in GSUs.
  • At the time, I accepted the revised offer, assuming that this was probably the maximum they could offer.
  • Recently, I spoke with a couple of people who joined Google in the last six months in the same role, and they mentioned receiving more than $50K in GSUs.
  • My base salary, on the other hand, is roughly on par with what I understand Google L4 software engineers receive.

Given this information, I’m wondering whether my stock grant is significantly below the current range for this role and level.

I’ve also come across Reddit discussions suggesting that Google sometimes addresses compensation disparities during annual performance review cycles. However, I’m not sure how reliable that is or whether it would make sense to wait for my first review.

I’d appreciate advice on a few questions:

  1. Should I try to renegotiate my GSU grant now, or wait until my first performance review? Is there a realistic chance of getting the grant adjusted after joining?
  2. Since I’ve already accepted the offer, is it still possible to negotiate? Could reopening compensation discussions create any issues with the recruiter or jeopardize the offer?
  3. How common is it for Google L4 employees to receive significantly different stock grants for the same role, especially when they join around the same time?
  4. If I decide to negotiate now, what would be the best way to approach the recruiter without making the conversation awkward?

I’m excited about the opportunity and don’t want to risk the offer unnecessarily, but the difference between $28.5K and $50K+ is substantial.

Would really appreciate insights from current or former Google employees, especially those familiar with compensation negotiations for L4 roles.

Thanks!

General Yesterday marked my last day. I'm already feeling suicid*l.

Yesterday was my LWD after getting laid off from a startup. I worked as a Frontend developer for 2 years there .

I don't know what to do ? The gap in my career is killing makes me feel like a failure.

I feel like a failure. Got into 5 interviews in between 2 telephonic and 3 interviews.

Bombed 2 of them.

It's hard to sit at home in your mid 20's

If you're from Mumbai or hiring anywhere and hiring for a Frontend dev with 2.2 years of exp.

The salary expectation of mine is 6 LPA

Thank you

General Looking for Real-Life Problems to Solve Through an Interactive Tech Project

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm looking for real-life problems that could be solved or improved through technology for a project I'm working on.
It could be anything from repetitive tasks at work or college to everyday inconveniences, things that waste your time, or problems you wish had a better solution.
I'm especially interested in interactive tools, apps, or digital experiences that could make everyday life easier.

For example:
An app that simplifies a frustrating daily task.

An interactive tool that helps people make decisions or stay organised.

A better way to manage something people currently do manually.

Something you wish existed but haven't found a good solution for yet.

If you could have one interactive app or digital tool that solved a real problem in your life, what would it be?
It doesn't have to be a big or complicated idea. Even the smallest inconvenience could inspire something useful.

I'd love to hear your experiences, ideas, and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Why would you choose a gaming laptop over a MacBook?

What purchase makes more sense these days?

Career Everyone, What skills will get me a job in the industry?

To all experienced engineers, I'm a fresher, a full stack developer with no jobs. I just learned the skills and not sure if this field will get me some real work.

What skill should I learn to be relevant in this industry for at least 2-3 years?

Interviews Mid-20s, at the lowest point of my life, and getting zero interviews. For those who made it out—is the grind actually worth it in the end?

• Upvotes

I’m in my mid-20s and honestly at the lowest point of my life.
A while back, I worked at TCS for a year, decided to resign, and went on to complete my MCA to upskill and aim for better software roles. Since graduating, I’ve been grinding nonstop—building projects, sharpening my stack, and applying everywhere.
In return? Complete silence. I’m not even getting interview calls.
It’s soul-crushing to put in the work every single day with zero feedback while watching everyone else my age move forward. Right now, I’m seriously questioning my past decisions and wondering if I ruined my career trajectory.
For those who were stuck in this exact trench in their mid-20s and finally made it out: did things actually turn around for you? Looking back, was all this misery and grinding worth it in the end? I just need to know there’s light at the end of this tunnel.

I Made This I built ClearPDF — 12K installs, 300+ GitHub stars, #2 on Kotlin Trending

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! I'm a CSE student at VIT Vellore, and I've been building ClearPDF, an open-source Android document app.

What started as a project of mine has grown more than I expected. ClearPDF crossed 12,000 installs in a week, reached 300+ GitHub stars, and today it ranked #2 on GitHub Trending in Kotlin.

The main thing I wanted to get right was the experience. Most document apps focus on functionality, but I wanted to build something that looks modern too. ClearPDF has a Liquid Glass-inspired UI on Android, with a focus on smooth performance and a clean UX.

Another big priority was making it 100% offline, so you can work with your documents without needing an internet connection.

It supports PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, and images, with features like PDF editing and annotation, document scanning, Word document viewing, and XLSX spreadsheet editing.

I've also spent a lot of time fixing reported issues and improving performance across releases.

The project is MIT-licensed, and I'd love to see more developers get involved.

GitHub: https://github.com/Chethan616/ClearPDF

Latest release: https://github.com/Chethan616/ClearPDF/releases/latest

If you're interested in Android development, open source, or building polished apps, feel free to check it out. Contributions are welcome!

Thanks for all the support so far!

Career Technical support role worth it for fresher? 2026 passout.

I am a 2026 B.E. in Information Technology graduate, and for the last few months, I've been trying to get a job in the development field.

However, I've had no luck so far...I'm either getting rejected or ghosted every time. I recently applied for a tech support role and have managed to clear rounds up to the final stage, so I'll most likely get the offer.

I wanted to ask if I should take this tech support role or not. It is a shift-based job with a salary of 6 LPA.

Is it possible to transition from tech support to software development in the future? I would have preferred to keep practicing and trying to crack dev interviews, but my family is not well off and I really need the income right now.

Any opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

General For Those Getting Recruiter Calls in 2026: Which Platforms and Strategies Are Actually Working for You?

Hey everyone!

I'm curious to know how people are actually getting recruiter calls and interview opportunities in 2026.

For those who are actively getting calls, what platforms, strategies, or methods are working for you?

A few things I'd love to know:

  • Job portals: Naukri, LinkedIn, Wellfound, Instahyre, Cutshort, or something else?
  • LinkedIn: Are you applying directly, messaging recruiters, reaching out to hiring managers, or getting referrals?
  • Referrals: How are you approaching people for referrals, especially when you don't know them personally?
  • Resume: Are you tailoring your resume for every application, using specific keywords, or following any particular strategy?
  • Cold outreach: Have emails or LinkedIn DMs actually helped you land interviews?
  • Application strategy: Are you applying to newly posted jobs, mass-applying, or targeting specific companies?

I'd especially appreciate hearing from people who have recently switched jobs or landed interviews at product-based companies or good startups.

Please share what's actually working for you, along with any specific tips, numbers, or strategies. Even small details could help others who are struggling to get interview calls despite applying consistently.

Thanks!

Help My Team Isn't Assigning Me Tickets While Another Fresher Gets Individual Ownership Despite Joining Around the Same Time

My team initially explained that they couldn't assign me tickets because the project is complex and, as a fresher, I might face performance-related concerns from the PM.

However, another fresher joined around the same time as me and is working on the same project, yet his team has started assigning him at least one ticket per sprint. Meanwhile, my team keeps asking me to work with other team members on their tickets instead of giving me individual ownership.

This situation is starting to bother me because I feel like I'm not getting the same opportunity to learn, take responsibility, and demonstrate my abilities. It feels like my team is extracting work from me without giving me ownership of any tickets.

I'm not sure how to approach this anymore. Should I discuss this directly with my team lead, and if so, how can I bring it up without sounding like I'm comparing myself to the other fresher or complaining about my workload?

Interviews Company covering flights and hotel for an interview, irrespective of outcome!

A company is inviting me to its Noida office for an in-person interview, with all rounds conducted there. I'm currently based in Bangalore, and they will reimburse my travel expenses regardless of the interview outcome and provide accommodation for one night. They are inviting few people from all across India and will be taking 6 rounds of selection process.

Has anyone experienced a similar interview process with any company? I know some companies invite candidates for the final few rounds in person and reimburse travel expenses, but I've never heard of a company bringing candidates in for all interview rounds while covering their travel and accommodation.

General Choosing between Amazon UK SDE 2 vs Fintech in Bangalore SDE 3

I have 9 years of experience and after spending years in service based companies I now have 2 offers with me.

Amazon Cambridge, UK

Role offered : SDE 2
Base : 88k £
Signon Year 1 : 35k £, Year 1 Gross 123k
Signon Year 2 : 27.5k £, Year 2 Gross 115k

and then the RSU vesting each year for 4 years
5, 15, 45 and 35%

Fintech company Bangalore:

They are offering SDE 3
40LPA base + 10% variable - no stocks

I’m in early 30s now, married and no kid yet.

I’m leaning towards Amazon but i’m really skeptical if i’ll be able to manage in UK with what is being offered.

I’ll be moving with my wife who is in Marketing and will have to look for jobs there.
I’m afraid that at Amazon, year 3 onwards my salary plummets drastically as base is 88k £

I’m in service based company right now and current salary is like extremely low, worked super hard to get these 2 offers
