Hello homosapiens,
I’ve seen a lot of posts on here lately from students completely burning out trying to balance rent, casual shifts, and 4 units. As an international student in 3rd-year engineering, I was in that exact spot earlier this year drowning in study, so I built a script to map my background against Curtin unit outlines to waive units—and before Sem 1 starts, I want to run this mapping for ~20 people completely for free to help ease the load and test how accurate it is across different degree structures. If you're curious at first, I actually went straight to Curtin Connect to see if my casual work could waive anything through Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL). They couldn't really help—and it's not their fault. Staff simply don't have the time to parse through 1,000+ unit outlines for you, so the uni puts the entire burden of proof in your hands.
Most assume casual work can only ever waive random electives, but you can actually waive core units in degrees like Business, IT, Health, and Science. Even in accredited Engineering where the bar is high, 1–2 years of solid work can still get core units approved, or you can target flexible electives instead. Resumes usually get rejected because basic duties sound too simple on paper, whereas assessors only care if your tasks match published syllabus learning outcomes. To skip reading handbooks for days, my script indexes Curtin’s unit outlines and matches everyday work tasks directly to the exact rubrics assessors look for.
It worked: I waived 2 units (saved ~$11k in fees) with a 3rd pending, letting me formally underload to 3 units without pushing back my graduation date. Most significantly, it even helped waive a 4th-year Education unit from just casual tutoring—not because I had years of teaching, but because the script mapped actual day-to-day duties (lesson structuring, student feedback, adapting paces) directly to the faculty's published outcomes.
If you want me to run your background through it for free, just send me a DM with your degree name, current progress (e.g. 2nd year, 2nd sem), and a summary of what you've done (work, tutoring, club roles) or your resume/cover letter. Rest assured I have zero interest in your personal data—I've got way too much to lose as a student to do anything shady, and literally nothing to gain anyway. But definitely still feel free to black out/redact any personal info (student ID, address, phone number, financials) from whatever docs you send (my program has no use for that info). The script identifies which units you can waive and gives you the exact wording and breakdown for your official Curtin application (strictly real work, no fake claims). Quick heads-up for internationals: keep the 485 graduate visa rule in mind (needs 2 full study years / ~16 units). That's rarely an issue for 3- or 4-year Bachelor's degrees, but check if you're in a 2-year Master’s (not migration advice; ask Curtin Connect or an agent). Remember CRL is just an offer—if it ever conflicts with your CoE, you can simply decline it. I’m capping this at ~20 people so I don't get swamped alongside my own study. All I ask in return is that you let me know if Curtin approves or rejects it (a redacted screenshot of the decision email) so I know if it worked, plus an optional one-sentence testimonial down the line (up to you). Shoot me a DM if you want to see a sample report first, or reach out anyway if spots fill up / you want general advice on doing the paperwork manually. Good luck for exams peeps, y'all got this!
