[Xbox Series X] Crashes only in games with Ray Tracing

My Xbox Series X has a weird problem.

The crashes only happen in games that use Ray Tracing.

If I use Performance Mode or disable RT, everything works fine. But if I switch to Quality Mode with Ray Tracing, the game can crash back to the dashboard almost immediately.

The console itself stays on, no restart, no error message.

It can also happen when the console is completely cold, so I don’t think it’s just overheating.
I already tried pretty much all the usual troubleshooting: full console reset, reinstalling games, clearing local data, power cycling, changing settings, etc. Nothing helped.

I tested several games and the behavior is very consistent: RT off = works, RT on = crashes.
I also checked the POST codes with PicoDurangoPOST. The console boots normally and I don’t get any additional error code when the game crashes.

At this point I’m starting to think it might be a hardware issue.(APU, VRAM)
Has anyone seen something similar on a Series X? If yes, what was the cause?

[2DS] No audio output from speaker

I have a special edition peach pink 2DS that I recently bought with no audio output from the speaker. I bought a spare console with a known good speaker and the replacement did not resolve my issue. I’ve checked and verified that it’s not an issue with the aux either. It’s able to switch between both modes fine and the camera shutter is not audible either. Any clues where I can trace the lines for the speaker? They end on the other side of the board with no clear direction to go from.

[NES] Start button won't work

I had a rainy day last week and pulled out the NES to try and play. I tried Super Mario Brothers and SMB 3. With a lot of wiggling I could get both games to load but neither would go past the start menu. I thought it was because of the 72 pin connector which I've replaced before. That was probably 15 years ago so I ordered a new one and replaced it again. Now the games load better but they get stuck on the start menu. For SMB you can use A button to choose SMB over Duck Hunt but when you get to the game menu you can't choose player 1 or 2 to start the game. SMB3 loads to the menu but won't go anywhere. Is there a common issue that would cause this? I tried both controllers with the same result so I don't think it's the controllers as they both worked when used last, maybe 2 years ago. I switched the controller port input into the main board and nothing changed so I don't think it's the port. I can't see any bad circuits on the board. I checked continuity between the controller input and the little yellow capacitors they go to and that all seems good.

[SNES/SFC] Bad video outputs

Hello everyone! I have this Super Famicom that has issues with its video output. All the analog video signals I’ve tested via my retrotink4k pro have issues with only s-video being okay-ish and audio being seemingly perfect all across the board. I put pics of the board at the end of the video and there isn’t anything that jumps out to me as the problem. I tried to do some research which led me to believe it’s either the capacitors or the video encoder chip but I’d like to know the exact problem before I attempt any fix. The cables used are the official Nintendo cables for composite, insurrection industries Nintendo s-video cable and RGB SCART Cable (Sync on Luma). If someone could explain what’s the cause of this and how to fix it I’d greatly appreciate it!

[Famicom Twin] disk drive not reading

I have been watching videos and trying to tune my famicom twin disk drive spindle. The two most popular methods did not work for me so I started doing 1/8 turns on the spindle and testing it. I have it to the point where the game trys to launch then fails to err 27. However it reads side B everytime fine. Is it possible side a of the only famicom diskette I have is bad?

Replaced the HDMI port on this Xbox Series X. The HDMI port was broken and other issues before the replacement was done. This was my first attempt at doing an HDMI replacement, and I don’t see any bridges, but any clues?

I am new to soldering. The first time I tried the controller was working but the left analog was hard stuck to the left. I tried adding more solder as I was told that was probably an issue. And now the controller blinks blue for some time then turns off.

White paste around Xbox one power brick components. Is this normal?

Post image

Hi there. First time posting here. I bought an Xbox One off Facebook marketplace and noticed that the power supply brick gets really hot to the touch, even when I’m just on the Xbox dashboard. I thought about cleaning the fan inside the brick, but noticed all this white paste around the components. This is an original Xbox OEM brick, but on all the repair videos I’ve seen on YouTube, the featured power bricks don’t have this white paste. Is this normal?

GameCube output

So quick question I figured people in this subreddit might know what steps to take. My GameCube was working fine last time I tried to play it though it was about a year or so ago. Tried to play it this week and when it turns on led comes on and fans spin but there is zero output audio or video. I was wondering what troubleshooting steps I can take to repair this current problem. Tried multiple tvs a new AV cable and tried an hdmi upscaler. If anyone knows good things to check early or a link to any good guides for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

[Neo Geo AES] old, inherited NEO GEO Aes pixelated screen

Thumbnail

Hello!

I have a Neo Geo AES. When the cartridge is inserted and the console turned on, I get a screen with purple pixelated shapes that shift over time.. I'm wondering is the fault in the console or in the cartridge. Without any game inserted, the screen has steady graphics and a purplish blue screen, which after a while turns black.

The place of purchase was legitimate and sold it as a working game.

P.S. No one has played the console before the previous owner, and I have ordered a second game to test if another cartridge shows a similar issue.

[Ps2] not turning on

Hi everyone I recently bought a broken 5000x model of phat ps2. The issue was that it had no power and couldn't be turned on. I managed to narrow down the problem to the PSU but can't find any extensive information online about the specific PSU model. I tried to just kinda "wing it" by testing the capacitors and ended up getting shocked twice 😂. Anything that may strike you all as strange or out of place? Any advice for fixing it?

(P.S: I'm pretty new to this so please don't be too harsh. Also yes I did use a few youtube videos and thats how I narrowed it down but can't find the real issue.)

NES Front Loader with Lava RGB mod – graphical glitches followed by black screen, possible VRAM issue?

Good morning everyone!

I'm having some trouble with my NES front loader with a Lava RGB mod, and I'd appreciate any help troubleshooting it.

The console was working perfectly about five days ago. However, when I turned it on two days ago, it started showing graphical glitches, with sprites, letters, and numbers appearing in the wrong places.

I turned it off and tried different cartridges, but over the next 10 minutes or so, the glitches gradually got worse. Eventually, the screen became almost completely black, with only a few graphical glitches remaining (see video). A few minutes later, the console stopped displaying anything at all. Now, when I turn it on, I get a very dark green screen that eventually goes black.

I've already checked the cartridge connector thoroughly, and it seems to be in good condition.

I've also checked the CPU and PPU voltages and clock signals, and they all seem to be present.

The only unusual thing I've noticed is on the oscilloscope: the signals on the VRAM look different from those on the WRAM. The VRAM signals have a lower amplitude and look much more distorted or erratic.

Could this be a faulty VRAM chip? Could a VRAM failure cause the console to stop booting or prevent games from loading entirely?

I'm also getting no sound. For example, when I load Super Mario Bros. 3 and press Start several times, I get no audio at all.

What makes me unsure is that the console initially had graphical glitches before eventually losing the picture completely. I'm wondering whether the VRAM could be responsible for both the graphical issues and the console's current behavior, or if I should be looking elsewhere.

Are there any other tests or measurements you would recommend to narrow down the problem? In particular, what signals should I check around the VRAM, CPU, and PPU?

Thanks in advance for any help!
