Question How do you guys decide what voice to give a character?
Is it off vibes? Media the character was in outside of the comic? Do you even give them a voice?
I don't know why but I give god emperor doom the Adam smasher voice, but not regular doom.

Framing/Storing Large Comics?
Hey all,
I’m looking to either frame or casually seal my copy of Amazing Spider-Man 1000 and am curious about my options to either show it off/keep it safe on a budget.
I’m not looking to get it professionally slabbed or anything all that serious. I’m not trying to sell it years down the road, just trying to preserve something special that I’d like to pass onto my kids when they turn 18.

Suggestions Crossed: Wish You Were Here deserves more acclaim and attention despite the other series's arcs unnecessary gratuity
Most Crossed is trash, but this one is an exceptional arc in the series; the writing, character reveals, and twists are all top-notch. There's still some over-the-top gratuity, but a really good plot mostly backs it up.
It's by Simon Spurrier.

Discussion MyComicShop New Pricing Tool
Anyone get complete sticker shock today going onto the MyComicShop website and seeing literally ALL recent back issues in near mint condition uniformly go up to $10?!?! And very fine condition all go up to $8?!?! And so on.
Seriously. Go out and look. It’s their new pricing tool in full effect to fuck you over. If the issue is not the current issue of the series then the price automatically goes up to $10. Across the board. It is unbelievable. As soon as the newest issue hits then the one before it that was just selling for, say, $4.99 on their site is now $10.
If this isn’t a major fuckup on their part and is truly what they think the value of that comic now is, then I would hope all of you that use their site will send them an email letting them know what you think about their new pricing tool. I did.

Discussion Is buying comics a gamble?
Hey yall im new to collecting and just began collecting single issues. And I started to question something, whenever there’s a new series or release such as the midnight series or absolute series, do people buy multiple issues because they expect them to increase in value?
For example, I remember when absolute Batman first released, and I thought it was a cool concept, but I never dove into it. A year later the first issue is worth hundred of dollars.
Now personally, I’m interested in collecting comics that have a good stories, and I’m aware of stories can start off bad and get better or start off great and get worse. Not so much as to have them increase in value.
But I assume this broadens my question, do regular comic readers usually buy comics at a gamble of whether or not the story will be good or whether or not the comic will be worth something one day?
Ps: Ive heard Super mixed reviews about the midnight series stories, so I wasn’t too interested in getting into them, but I see no reason why I shouldn’t spend a few bucks on something that could potentially be big later and maybe be worth something. I do enjoy the art anyways. But possible profits isn’t the first thing I think of when I see a new comic. I want to READ them.

Shelfie Today's comic display.
I like to display some of my comics this way everyday, just a nice little habit I formed to enjoy my comics. Today's picks are Conan the Adventurer #1 from 1994, written by Roy Thomas with pencils by Rafael Kayanan. Silver Surfer #75 from 1992, written by Ron Marz and Pencils by Ron Lim. Hardware #1 from 1993, written by Dwayne McDuffie and penciled by Denys Cowan. And last but not least, Batman versus Predator #1 from 1991, written by Dave Gibbons and Penciled by Andy Kubert.

Question Is there an app or anything where I can read comics on my phone?
I know Marvel has one, but what about DC or Dark Horse?
Some things I’m into:
- Star Wars (pretty sure this is all in the Marvel one)
- Vampire: The Masquerade
- Alien
- Hellraiser
- Spawn would be cool too I suppose

Question Why is the distribution of translated comics so incredibly poor in Latin America?
I'm from a LATAM country and while I was inside a known bookshop from my country, I saw how many comics aren't translated to Spanish and are fully in English. Comparing that to manga, which are almost always sold fully translated in Spanish, it's awful.
I know that there are speciality comic stores, but they're often in richer areas and there aren't many. And even those have the same issue.

Seeking The Online Material for Jon Chad's Bad Mask (2017 Boom Studios)
I'm reaching out to see if anyone can help find a copy of the online supplement for Jon Chad's very unique graphic novel Bad Mask (2017 Boom Studios). I'm looking for screencaps, a mirror site, etc. Even a description of what was there would be nice.
Bad Mask told the story via a box of documents (trading cards, a newspaper, a secret file, a henchman manual, etc.). Part of it was online, a fake "file server" named www.server2174.tech/
Alas the site is now dead and only the main page is in the internet archive because it was "password protected" (the password is in the graphic novel). Here is the front page capture: https://web.archive.org/web/20180902224901/https://www.server2174.tech/
I contacted Boom Studios and Chad but have received no reply so far.
UPDATE: This is not blaming them - it's a 9 year old publication and not surprising the stuff would be offline, and usually the Internet Archive would back it up - it just can't handle passwords.
For more info on how cool this project was check out here: https://comicon.com/2017/12/22/unboxing-jon-chads-bad-mask-a-multi-media-story-experience-from-boom-studios/

Middle Tennessee Friends?
I need friends who read comics and I live in a state not exactly known for its celebrations of literacy (despite Dolly's best efforts, God rest her). Where y'all at? I'm North of Columbia, East of Jackson, South of Clarksville, and West of Nashville. Say hey.
(Hellboy, Grendel, Mage, Astro City, Strangers in Paradise, Concrete, Mouse Guard, Queen & Country, Blacksad, Usagi Yojimbo, the Spirit, the Rocketeer, Criminal, all of this and more over Marvel and DC, but yes of course a bunch of Marvel and DC.)

General Opinion
I collect comic books, I have 500+ and I was thinking of giving away or selling some to lighten the load. I have some people telling me to keep them for future worth and some say to sell. There are certain comics + their story lines i dont mind being rid of, but I've been a collector for just under 10 years, does anyone have any tips or how they felt getting rid of some?

Question How does a variant cover come to be? What guidelines does the artist recieve?
Just curious about how rigorous the pipeline for an average variant cover is. Does the artist receive an advance copy of the issue? A plot synopsis? Just the solicit blurb?
Who in the creative team on the title gets to shape/dictate the variant cover?

Question What makes a comic "indie"?
So when i was recommended to look for indie comics outside of the big 2, i was looking for comics that didnt have a company name attached to them.
However i was then told that stuff like invincible, saga, twd, and hellboy are considered indie comics.
Now in the gaming sphere, indie typically refers to a game being self published or published by a small company.
Now i realize that these companies are nowhere near as big as marvel or dc, but image, skybound, dark horse, etc are still pretty big companies with tons of comics under their names.
What makes a comic "indie"?
