Discussion In retrospect... I think the New 52 was better than DC Rebirth.

I've been thinking about how widely hated a lot of the New 52 stuff was, and a lot of it is valid, but I still think that the highs of the New 52 are SO high that I'd put that era above the Rebirth stuff. I mean in terms of great, impactful books what did Rebirth have that compared to the greats of the New 52? New 52 had Snyder's Batman, Morrison's Action Comics, Johns' Green Lantern, Lemire's Animal Man. Rebirth had.... Superman, Detective Comics, Deathstroke I've heard was good, but do any of those really compare to the awesome runs of the New 52? I will say I think that the lows of the New 52 (Wonder Woman....) are much lower than the lows of Rebirth, but overall I would still take the New 52 any day.

Discussion Single issues

Im relativity new to comics, im wonder what the general thought are on singles im trade waiting on alot of series, but going to the store and picking up singles for ongoing stuff I really like or new number ones is awesome. I guess I just want to know what the general consensus is what is the best way to be buying comics and are singles really worth the extra cost as someone 6 months into the hobby?

Suggestions Crossed: Wish You Were Here deserves more acclaim and attention despite the other series's arcs unnecessary gratuity

Most Crossed is trash, but this one is an exceptional arc in the series; the writing, character reveals, and twists are all top-notch. There's still some over-the-top gratuity, but a really good plot mostly backs it up.

It's by Simon Spurrier.

Question New to Superman, want to know if I can read these comics as standalone

I've only read Absolute Superman Vol 1 and Birthright so far. I want to read more Superman but the comics available in my country are very limited. These are the comics I'm interested and I want to know If I can read all of them as an individual stories without any connections to other books.

  1. Superman Up in the Sky
  2. Superman Secret Origin
  3. Superman House of Brainiac
  4. Superman: Brainiac
  5. Superman: Man of Tomorrow Vol. 1: Hero of Metropolis

DONT BUT MARK SPEARS GRAVEYARD BLIND BAGS

It's crazy, but 95% of these blind bags are all the same exact cover. Cover H. Confirmed through multiple stores opening tons of them.

Complete rip off.

Are you hate reading any books/characters?

Like, are there books, or characters or even creators who you abso-fricken-lutely can't stand, but you still read consistently and if so why?

The classic example would if you are a diehard completionist fan of a character but the current run makes you weep, and despite that you still read.

That scenario is certainly for sure welcome in this thread, but I also wanna are there any other reasons for medium or long term hate reading a comic out there?

Question Should i read physically or digitally?

I've been reading comics for about 8 months or so for now. I don't read a lot, but i love when I do. I've read a mix of digital and physical, but my favourite of all time is to read physically.

It's especially difficult to decide because I prefer to collect single issues (I LOVE cover art, and singles are just sm easier for me to read) and omnibus'.

So, because of this, i'm having real trouble deciding what means I should buy physically and what I should just read digitally? And say i get issues 1 and 2 of a 6 issue run, should i wait until i can buy the rest of the issues?

Like, I'm a big completionist and I just like to have the full run before I read it through, but that isn't the least bit sustainable.

Question Is there an app or anything where I can read comics on my phone?

I know Marvel has one, but what about DC or Dark Horse?

Some things I’m into:
- Star Wars (pretty sure this is all in the Marvel one)
- Vampire: The Masquerade
- Alien
- Hellraiser
- Spawn would be cool too I suppose

I like to display some of my comics this way everyday, just a nice little habit I formed to enjoy my comics. Today's picks are Conan the Adventurer #1 from 1994, written by Roy Thomas with pencils by Rafael Kayanan. Silver Surfer #75 from 1992, written by Ron Marz and Pencils by Ron Lim. Hardware #1 from 1993, written by Dwayne McDuffie and penciled by Denys Cowan. And last but not least, Batman versus Predator #1 from 1991, written by Dave Gibbons and Penciled by Andy Kubert.

Hey everyone, new to the community and relatively new to comic collecting. I recently got this from a friend and unfortunately it got crunched at the top (fucking postal service). I don’t plan to get it graded or sell it, but I was curious if this could be pressed out at all? Idk if people do pressing with foil comics. I’ve had a couple comics graded and pressed 2 years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻

I recently purchased the 2 hardcover volumes of Absolute Martian Manhunter as I could not wait for the deluxe. I adored this series in single issues and am still eagerly awaiting the deluxe edition but on the reread this time around I found that this comic was in fact reading me! Here’s my in-depth review!

Question How does a variant cover come to be? What guidelines does the artist recieve?

Just curious about how rigorous the pipeline for an average variant cover is. Does the artist receive an advance copy of the issue? A plot synopsis? Just the solicit blurb?

Who in the creative team on the title gets to shape/dictate the variant cover?

Question How do you guys decide what voice to give a character?

Is it off vibes? Media the character was in outside of the comic? Do you even give them a voice?

I don't know why but I give god emperor doom the Adam smasher voice, but not regular doom.

Question What do 1:100s typically go for at retail?

• Upvotes

I buy a few ratios here or there. It doesn't blow my mind to spend $20 for a 1:25, but typically I find places to get them for less. I have a couple of 1:50s. This is only when it's a meaningful character/artist/book. It's never exactly $50.

But I've never had a 1:100. There's an upcoming book that I want. How much do they go for?

Is James Tynion IV the biggest hypebeast in comic books?

Something Is Killing the Children BOOM!, 2019 3 0 Netflix/Flanagan (2021) → Netflix/Dark creators (shelved end of 2024) → Blumhouse film (Craig Zobel directing) + adult animated series in development
Exquisite Corpses Image, 2025 1 0 Feature film in development at Tiny Onion + Lyrical Media; tabletop card game in beta, Kickstarter planned 2026

Room Service Short film → one-shot comic 1 1 (short) Kickstarter-funded short film exists; feature version in development at Tiny Onion + Lyrical

The Nice House on the Lake DC Black Label, 2021 0 0 No deal reported
Wynd, The Deviant, Blue Book, House of Slaughter, Backstagers Various 0 0 No deals found
Total ~10 2 Only feature-length release is a licensed DC/Nickelodeon crossover; the other is a self-funded short

Video games: none. Tabletop only: Exquisite Corpses: The Game (in beta) and a SIKTC card in a new TCG (apparently "Gridstorm") bundled with the SIKTC #50 blind-bag variant.

Video games: none. The closest is a SIKTC trading card in a new TCG (apparently "Gridstorm") bundled with the SIKTC #50 blind-bag variant.

The only time he had something go beyond the comic book was Batman/TMNT which is not his franchise.

Discussion MyComicShop New Pricing Tool

Anyone get complete sticker shock today going onto the MyComicShop website and seeing literally ALL recent back issues in near mint condition uniformly go up to $10?!?! And very fine condition all go up to $8?!?! And so on.

Seriously. Go out and look. It’s their new pricing tool in full effect to fuck you over. If the issue is not the current issue of the series then the price automatically goes up to $10. Across the board. It is unbelievable. As soon as the newest issue hits then the one before it that was just selling for, say, $4.99 on their site is now $10.

If this isn’t a major fuckup on their part and is truly what they think the value of that comic now is, then I would hope all of you that use their site will send them an email letting them know what you think about their new pricing tool. I did.
